      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. VOR 2017-18

FYI, Vestas Wind AIS is currently active. They're doing 9 kt at 341deg about 60nm south of Lisbon.
  2. Shoes for big boat racing

Adidas all the way. Our crew of 10 have been wearing them for the past 3-4 seasons. They can be had for cheap, don't smell, have awesome drainage and dry quickly, and retain their grip as long as you don't wear them off the boat. I know some guys these days who just get a pair of Rocky Socks and wear them with the Adidas on medium distance races (Vineyard, Block, Chi-Mac, etc) too. Presuming Ed, wash in the dishwasher not the washing machine. Though usually rinising with fresh water after gnarly weather and then a good soak every so often should be sufficient.
  3. Musto MPX Race Lite

Does anyone have any experience with the new line of MPX gear that came out in 2016? I know it has only been out for a season, but how is it holding up? They're advertising it as much lighter than the old stuff.
  4. Edlu 2016

    Link to the video?
  5. Crew Management

Thanks for the suggestion. Team snap looks interesting, though I wonder if there is a way to integrate in additional features. I really is like herding cats on a weekly daily basis.
  6. Crew Management

I know this was discussed a couple of years ago but haven't seen anything lately and was curious what people are using. I have been managing the crew for a pretty active program, generally sails with between 9 and 12 bodies, and keeping track of contact info, availability, weight, ISAF info, positions, and events can be quite a task. Not to mention actually getting everyone to the right place at the right time and dealing with last minutes SNAFUs. I have been using google docs that I can access from my phone, with a spreadsheet that shows me who is on the boat any given day in each position and with the total weight of the crew. Then using email, texts, and phone calls to get people there. How are other people managing this? Are there any good new apps or sites? I checked a couple general sports team management apps/but so far not have fit the bill.
