      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. Does anyone know where "Tickled Pink" is?
  2. There is one for sale in Cleveland also. Check the classified.
  3. Have you noticed what happened to Greece?
  4. IMX 38, great pointing and above 6 knots TWS great speed upwind.
  5. To my understanding, VC17 is pretty much useless in salt water, and you can't go over it with anything else. I guess there is "VC Offshore", which can go over the 17, but from what I've read, it produces a nice fast smooth bottom but you have to dive on it frequently to keep it clean. Not gonna race, and don't want to do that. So far I haven't found a good alternative to removing the VC17 and putting on a decent ablative. Oh god. Did this just turn into a "which bottom paint?" thread? VC 17 will come off with acetone and a rag.

  7. Anyone seen an entry list for the Falcon? It looks like a slower ride than last year! Sometimes I just have a need to go full Ballushi .....glad the breeze is going left...the Falcon should be contested under a bag looks like the same conditions as 2011 (OK it just struck me that we are on starboard, so breeze was out of the S/W)FraNKLY, I'll be happy if you DON"T broach 6 times! Dreamer is docked next to me at CYC. What a yacht!

  9. Sure perhaps at CYC. If you look in past years I bet there were close to as many boats from other clubs who came to do the race as there were participants from CYC. I did the Mills race for the first time in 20+ years of sailing on LE and it was staggering the number sponsors literature and info put out about the race. Multiple courses pre and post parties... It brings boats from detroit to erie. If you want 75 boats to do a race like that that is what you have to do. Otherwise this is what happens. As for the Q on the schedule that's just an other throwout for those who just don't want to do it, I personally don't think that way but it is a sad fact. It has been publicized -- here, via emails, via personal phone calls, via the CSA website, via text messaging, via the CYC schedule which has been posted since end of April. The race has been run for 83 years... it's amazing how things just tend to creep up on people and when the time comes (too late) everyone all of a sudden has an opinion. Where were these opinions when there was a tabled discussion last fall at CYC? This spring? In the survey that I sent, directly, to everyone at our club, made publicly available to everyone else, and received a total of (3) responses? Stop pointing fingers that this was "not advertised." If you had "multiple people over the past month" asking you about the race, why was I not contacted? I don't need the rude and offensive emails, phone conversations, etc from the very few that DID sign up, pointing the blame on myself... that most certainly solves the issue doesn't it? The distance race was cancelled because it is impossible to justify what all had been planned for a mere 4-5 boats. It will be scheduled for next year -- in April -- like it always has been. If people want to wake up now and actually decide more than a day in advance if they're attending, perhaps an even better party/race/schedule can be arranged for all. Hard to throw an event when there are no RSVPs, don't you think? Thanks. Rob Thank you for running the race the past three years, thank you for doing the survey to try and make changes to attract more boats. I find it amusing that the ones on this forum lamenting the cancellation did not even have an entry in. You can not run an event on "maybe we will race" or "can we sign up the night before". I should not be surprised as they are the same people who never offer to help. If you don't like what happened get off your ass and help. There is more to running an event or race than drinking the free beer. If I offended anyone you know where to find me. Robert SR
  10. If ZAR comes I will donate a Keg!
  11. Weak Agree, we wonder why turnouts are down? Maybe not having sailflow 15 years ago was a good thing. Sure did, had to catch a plane to Egypt. Still enjoyed the sail. I thought I recall Mr. Ed dropping out and turning on the blender last year. Maybe why finishers are down.
