Well, I have insufficient superlatives. Let's just say it's quite a vicarious thrill to see that beautiful craft on the water. The thrill being tempered by the envy stemming from the longest winter in memory here in Ontario. Congratulations Kim, kudos for your vision and patience. Mr. Perry: A lifetime of great skill and artfulness clearly manifested in a stunning new boat. Best wishes for many years of safe, exciting sailing. I am waiting now for first-hand commentary from the now-famous SWMBO.

I've just stopped in after a month away. Kim and Bob, the two of you have created a breathtaking boat. Though I don't think there has been any doubt of this for almost three years now. I once again have to mention Mr. Bottle's patience in this wonderful and excruciating process. There was some Bible guy - Job, I think... Before the internet, how did we go about acting pissy with each other? I have no opinion on the anchor rollers. Oh yeah, and I will envy forever anybody that gets to drive the thing!

I know this fellow. He doesn't do the grinding. He strips 'em, chops 'em up with a chainsaw, sends 'em to the landfill. He's a pretty good guy really, he tries to get people to rehab some of the better sailboats he gets. Do you think he gets a lot of Nordic 44's? I could maybe foster one of those. Not so much with the Nordic 44's. Few of the sailboats he salvages exceed 30 ft.

I'm just checking the thread for the first time this month, agonizing! She's getting so close, Kim, I've said it before but you must be the most patient man on earth. The first of the bottom paint shots from below makes the boat look insanely long and lithe.

Ajax If you get a chance absolutely go to NFLD. It's an awesome place with great scenery and sailing. But best of all is the people. I was there in '97 on my dad's bayfield 23 and its' definitely on the list when we start moving further afield. I've worked in NFLD a couple of times. Easily the best place in Canada to visit. It is heart-breakingly beautiful, the people are marvellous, and they know how to pour a Guinness.

I just learned last evening that there is a company north of Toronto that runs old boats thru what I can only imagine is a kind of wood chipper. Apparently they make fibreglass flakes that are laid down as an insulating layer prior to pouring basement floors.

I have an Endeavour 32. I am pretty embarrassed by this one. Not only does this fellow have idiotic taste, he also can't spell. Oh, I see has has another set of sails for being a bit more stealthy pirate.

Just joshing, Bob. You have my deep respect.

Ok I'd like to respectfully disagree, even though I may be in the minority. It's a one-off daysailor. A light, skinny one. It's gonna be fast, and there's no other boats to race against. Could we skip the next 12 thru one bajillion steps of, "This is the photo of GD28 and the crew buffing the hull down with free-range vegetarian Cashmere baby lambs" and just bolt the bloody keel on and drop 'er in the water and take some sailing videos?! ... Patience isn't the strong suit for some of us....(heck, if you lived in Toronto, summer would be just about over) What are you talking about?!? We still have 8 or 10 days of warm weather left!

I think the attention everyone has given this vessel is a tribute to Bob's design. Thank you Bob. In the pursuit of efficiency, I omitted the obvious. (And heck, we don't want him to get any more of a swelled head - this thread has become the Online Church of Robert Perry)

The painted hull shots are breathtaking. I do like the notion that on this project, "perfection is a given." It's also inspiring to see how everyone who has been involved in the project seems to have truly taken up the challenge and given it their very best. In an era of mediocrity and disposable everything, such craftsmanship, personal commitment and attention to detail is quite rare, and quite wonderful.

+1. Or any kind of water for that matter. People sail in other than salt water???? I sail unsalted water. Lots of it and I agree fuel spills suck. Then they squirt dishsoap at it and it falls to the bottom. Our local inland sea also lacks salt. That is unless I am cooking corn on the Stern rail BBQ. With respect to spills, no matter how careful you are, they eventually occur. Last summer I slopped some diesel overboard, not that much really, but of course it instantly spreads out to look like Valdez II. I had a spray bottle of Micro 50, a microbial degreaser (http://www.micro50.ca/) already made up for cleaning my engine and bilges. I quickly grabbed it and sprayed it all over the spill. The spill just disappeared as you watched - it was pretty cool. Micro50 claims that its product actually consumes and completely breaks down hydrocarbons. It seems to have worked in my case. Anybody else have any experience with this or other such?

I'd put a little rigging tape across that gap and go sailing! You can fix it properly with Bondo over the winter.

Well, I have just returned to my desk after a month or so of sailing the world, or at least the 1000 Islands, and I am pleased to see that you all have been able to carry on without me. It was just a quick hour and a half catching up on several hundred posts (when, after a month away, I should be working). The picture of Bob and Kim (the second pic?) on the day of the hull's departure from the school is a splendid photo. Having spent so many hours on this thread, I feel I know these two characters in the Sliver/Francis Lee opus, and this picture seems a superb representation of them. The picture of the empty space at the school looked a bit sad, sort of resonating with emptiness, but surely there will be another well-loved project or two filling up that space soon. It must be very exciting getting on to chapter -what is it - three(? (design, build, finishing)) of this story. It seems like the finish line is in sight, despite the 10/90% aphorism. I continue to be inspired by the quality of the craftsmanship of the build, and I continue to learn a tremendous amount that will surely help in my own plodding restoration of my old 4ksb. Carry on lads.

http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=2123 Nothing wrong with boat, add is fantastic! I didn't know you could train a monkey on crack to submit posts to ebay. A monkey on crack would probably post something which makes more sense. That pile of gibberish makes me want to call the guy just so I can punch him. As a person who feels strongly about the therapeutic value of punching (especially Kid Rock), I appreciate this.

I imagine that boat with the twin Mercs was pretty badass in its day. The young owner likely had a bevvy of beauties onboard every weekend. Sigh.
