      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. This tribe came up in conversation yesterday. I was feeling nostalgic. Go figure.
  2. Well, I have missed racing. This injury I am still recovering from was a doozy. It is most challenging having been practically kill proof to being careful. Damn! This weakness and fear will be shaken off...it is already happening. I'm not surprised. LET'S DO IT! I'm in.
  3. I've been all over the place since I last dropped in here. However I have been back in one of my homes, Honolulu, since end of January, and will be leaving to go back to SFBA (northern California) soon. I need more of me! Aloha to you ropetrick! Always a pleasure.
  4. Yes, exactly. No, a few of us were reminiscing about the good ol' days.
  5. Hi every One! Miss you...well some of you. Checked out some threads in the main SA forum. Still lots of insults flung around, and general mayhem. Hahaha! the One, the Only hellion
  6. So, it took a month, and I'm starting to acclimatize. I had become such a weather wuss. This is what living in Hawai'i for 4 years does to a person. All I can say is I'm grateful that Northern California has been non-stop sunny and warm in the day time....I do have to put a fleece on at night though. People talked about rain and cold and shtuff, and that I wouldn't want to get a motorcycle here. Bah!
  7. "Salt on a slug"....about Woody....I'm still giggling about that one.
  8. 20 here in the East Bay H haven't seen this sort of temps more than once or twice living here my whole life. Early December 09 we actually got snow in SF and it stuck in some places like Berkeley hills, Walnut Creek etc. That was the week before we closed on our house in the East Bay so didn't actually see it here at the new house but did watch snow flakes falling at our San Francisco condo it didn't stick in SF but it did in the East Bay. Neighbor up the street told me they had just moved in, have a steep driveway backed out of the garage and did the slip n slide down the driveway and ended up in the neighbors front yard across the street.. LOL That must have quite the scene. Well then, being that local friends thanked me for the warm weather I seem to have brought since I had arrived, now they might blame me for the cold. It's the seesaw effect. What goes up must come down. Hahaha!
  9. The temps dipped too quickly here in the Bay area (SF). Daytime it went from mid 70s to 40s.....brrrrrrrrr is right. And I am needing more time to acclimatize. There isn't enough fleece and wool in my wardrobe....yet.
  10. Oh now after reading all this and the sentimentality of it all, I have to go and see HR.
  11. Aloha Chicago sailors, If anyone is sailing in the next few days, I'm in town and would love to get out there. It's just too beautiful not to ask. Please PM me.
  12. Oh the humanity, Clean, think how you have traumatized that poor woman labelling the pic a reject! I will get my coat. I agree with Clean (walks to the bathroom to wash out mouth with soap and water). Rollerfurlers - horrible things - they shouldn't be allowed, unless you are single handing! Everything else looks wonderful! Tingling with anticipation - and it's the 2nd here! With hot women like that you think you'll have more than 1 hand free? Necesity is the mother of invention! I'm only disappointed because my photographer friend would have fallen to the floor if this had been published with yours truly on the cover. I hadn't alerted him. Although he found this and alerted me! Gotts love the interweb. This is an old beauty of a vessel that we had taken the owner out on to teach him a little bit about sailing that day. Photoshoot was spontaneous. Of course! The stunning camera and multi talented photographer made this possible. Thank you Mr. Clean and Mer again...perhaps next year we'll rock it out even more! The One, The Only, hellion ETA: ordered one just now....WHEE!
  13. OHMYGAWWWWWWWWWD! I was just alerted to check out this. Mr. Clean, and Mer, I am thrilled and beside myself that you considered this. Perhaps an SA burgee pasted onto that forestay would have been the clincher. However, I am so happy to be part of this and wish I had not dropped the ball years ago. Such is the life of a wanderer. The photographer is thrilled as well. Mahalo PP!! I hadn't had a chance to mention it to him, and as always, this is a such a small world. The fact that the Anarchettes calender is finally created to help Catherine is a wonder-full. Thank you all for your efforts. PS Dorag will you marry me?
  14. I believe you will like the shot that Mer has selected from the ones I sent her. Thanks Ajax. I cannot wait to see the final results myself. Beautiful wondrous sailing woman! YES!
  15. yay! will email the info soon as I can. It just ocurred to me I should have asked what I was counting myself in for...then again, after being stuck in BR since February without sailing, I don't care! Adorable!
