Have we found out what these are for ? I watched the footage of tacks and roundings and it does not appear that they are discharging water, what are they for?

    Just in case no one has given you a straight answer yet, they are drains for the cockpit.

     

    ETNZ has the same, although with cover plates. INEOS have always had them. They may have had cover plates, now removed, making them more apparent.

    That imperfect quarantine setup has been there all along. A case or several was always a possibility. Mitigation plans if there are any, seem not agreed on by all relevant parties. That's part of managing the event.

    The sag also enables them to put the bulb as low as possible whilst still having the wing meet the side of the bulb at 90 deg.

    Is it only kiwi skippers who deserve shame?  Or do Dennis Conner (the only person to unsuccessfully defend it twice), Ed Baird and Francesco de Angelis also qualify?

    Because it would be the end of the team as we know it. Their supporters wouldn’t accept it, and I include myself in that gross generalisation.

    Also:

    - The home town advantage is too great (connection to the industry, cost, ability to sail on the race course)  

    - It would turn the cup into the thing they’ve stood against in the past.

    - They’re likely to lose a bunch of top sailors. The draw of national pride will be keeping many of them there.
