    Boats and foils comparison

Certainly guessing the right foils might be very important (in particular if the wind is on the foiling limit). I also find the top section of the mast interesting. Would it be allowed with a horizontal top section (like the end of some airplane wings)?

    Agree

But would the same foil work with and without an angle?

Nice design.. Wonder what it would cost to buy and operate..

    Boats and foils comparison

Another advantage could be that you are allowed to change 20% (?) of the foil (weight/volume?). Therefore if you have 80% of the weight(volume) you can basically try many different foil shapes without using up your maximum (6) number of different foils you are allowed to test.

    Luna Rossa Challenge. AC 36

I think it looks terribly slow. All the drop downs must slow them down. I guessed it would be easier to fly in strong winds, but seems as if I'm wrong.

The code 0 รถ generate a lot of drag.

    Sun and wind powered cars

I read this https://group.vattenfall.com/who-we-are/sponsorship/vattenfall-solar-team and it got me thinking. If we can do 50 knots on the water with wind, it should not be too hard to go faster than that on land, i.e. given that we can sail in the right direction we should be able to keep up with traffic flow easily with a wind powered car. I guess the main problem is the limits in true wind directions.

That is why you need a combination with solar power.

    The boatless sail?

    Luna Rossa Challenge. AC 36

Exactly, I think it is 20% of the weight and AM+LR have all the weight in the bulb, so they can basically change the rest as much as they want.

    Luna Rossa Challenge. AC 36

I would find it even more interesting to see them sail against each others.

    Larry's AC50 Circus

Agree, but it was far better in the last two ACs then before. Technology helped. Now you actually know who is leading a race in the middle of a leg.

How many challengers will there be?

I've been trying to watch broadcasts of AC since the 70s and from a pure spectator viewing point AC34 was far better than anything else, followed by AC33. Sailing in Valencia was sort of viewable but most races were over in 1 minute and then the rest was just waiting for the finish line and the animated graphics was more exciting than the TV pictures actually. So for AC35 to be exuding they need to spend money on good TV production and hope the races are sort of even.

In Sweden you can actually watch it on viaplay if you subscribe to it. It is sent live at 5am on Friday and Saturday

Sailing season in Sweden is may to September. Sure you can stay in the shed, but I'm quite sure most ETNZ sailor actually hit the water in something during the shed time.

    AC36 CLASS RULE

I am completely convinced that you could have changed the sailors from one boat to another and (given sufficient training) the same boat would still have won. I.e. it was a design contest. I can not remember any Americas Cup match that was not won by the faster boat. Possible Shamrock IV - but that was before my time.

    Thanks, interesting

    Larry's AC50 Circus

As well as basically all earlier cups. The only exception might have been 1934 when endavour lost against Shamrock V using amateur sailors due to a strike.

    Larry's AC50 Circus

Actually this highlights one of the strong points about AC35, the quality of the broadcast production was way superior to any other sailing event I've seen. Without good graphics and virtual information sailing is an awful TV sport (I remember one Olympics when the experts did not even know who won the gold until 10 minutes after the finish.) in Ac36 we had fantastic graphic, good (Swedish) experts on site that actually know our than I did. Matchracing is also easier to visualize than fleet racing.
  24. Price... (if you could make a realistic challenge for 10m that would change a lot). In 2002 some budgets were in that ballpark.
  25. Who says that interest was lost after AC32 ? The number of news articles has never been as high as during last cup in Sweden (who challenged a number of times). However - still very very low.
