      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Surprise, surprise: it's all about the money. Except that now it's all about corporate sponsor's money and cosying up to big media. The millionaires/billionaires that used to have the AC to themselves now have to share it, even take a back seat, to corporate interests, but it all boils down to the same thing: it's all about the money. Outrage in the AC? Nothing new here, it's all part of its charm (maybe).

For a slightly acid view of AC Bermuda so far trundle on over to: http://tinyurl.com/khsnhas . And a bad day at the office for BAR.

OTUSA have consistently referenced 45 knots as their cavitation limit. They would say that, wouldn't they? Remember the AC is as much about what goes on off the water---pyschological warfare and misinformation---as it is about actual sailing.

Not allowed by the this-time Class Rule, hopefully it will be allowed in the next wing rule if there is one. Thanks.

Does anyone know why the wing doesn't have a fence at its top to reduce turbulence coming off the tip, e.g. not an issue, not allowed, etc.?

I guess we all have our preferences, but the AC has never been about pure match racing, although in the 20C that tended to predominate. The AC has always been about rich people flinging money into technology, crews and lawyers in an attempt to stiff/trash their opponent, however much they may try to dress it up. This latest incarnation is just the latest version of the same old story in all its byzantine glory, whether it lights our fire or not.

one should only "showcase" activities that increase the appeal of the sport.., that improve the "look" of the sport... this does neither it looks dumb and dorky.., and when it is explained to the average non-sailor they will mostly think it _is_ dumb and they will be right Surely one reason for sticking t human power is because once you have done away with that input on one level the argument naturally goes to doing away with it on another, until you end up with an automated drone. The whole point is the contest between human beings: physically, intellectually, financially, and legally---this is the 'Americas Cup' after all.
