      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. Going to be interesting up in Detroit, 2 North Lofts with in a football field length of each other and one 100 miles or so down the road from those 2. Now add one more in Vermilion a 100 miles from the one in Toledo. So now we 4 North Lofts with in 150 miles of each other. Hmmmm Change on the Horizon.
  2. Savage I agree on the Kiwi Grip its OK but not as hard as Perfection with Grit. I had gotten a few estimates on getting a shop to do my boat's deck and it was about the boats value. It all came down to $ and time
  3. Its an old boat take the time fix all the dings with West System and filler repaint all the white with Perfection and then fix all the wet core and re do all the non skid with Kiwi Grip. Perfection with Grit might be nicer but the Kiwi Grip is less expensive and its so easy and makes repairs look like they were never there. I can send pictures of my finished J 29
  4. I had the same issues on my J 29, I removed everything and fixed all the wet core from above. I painted the white in Perfection and did the deck in Kiwi Grip. When fixing the core your gonna want to use Balsa Core go with what was there to begin with finding balsa core is easy. If you can get the boat inside where you can work on it is key. Its not hard to do and if you have shop do it you could easily have more in it then the boat is worth. Kiwi Grip is a good product but if I was doing it again I would have done Perfection with the grit but that would have been allot more prep and expense whats great about the Kiwi is it covers all the imperfections.
  5. It was 2 really long days going up the river and I was really tired and baked from the sun it was really late I had a few vodka tonics and made an ass of my self. If you read any of my posts over the year's you will see it was out of character for me. I am embarrassed by my post and its the first time ever I have done something like that. I am truly sorry for being such a dick and would love to buy any of the M 24 guys a beer. While drinking the beer you can all tell me how much of a jerk I am. I'm truly sorry, this whole thread blew up all over me and that is my fault for being such a jerk. Paul I'll try and seek you out shake your hand for a great race and offer an in person apology. If I get banned from SA or warning points of flogged I'll take it I'll do my time. Cliff Ruckstuhl
  6. By the way what is Rule 69 on the Sailing Anarchy Forums? Its fairly obvious I was talking about the Wild West on the Sailing Anarchy forums.
  7. This got out of hand and I have deleted it I was just pointing out that on a forum like this it can spiral out of control with the name calling and all the crap that goes on here. I'm not that guy and I'm sorry. I was merely pointing out that with no rules it gets pretty much like the Wild West here on this web site. It was a stupid post and I'm sorry. It was Completely ridiculous and irresponsible of me.
  8. Just a quick report half way into the season, winches look great grip is great.
  9. Outboard Frac and with the out board it will change the number some.
  10. Doing the race for some really isn't about winning. For some its about a badge of honor I could walk into a room full of sailors and ask how many have done the Mac and maybe a few have, I've done 4. I really don't care that the M 24 are in my class and I don't care how we finish hopefully not last mid fleet would be awesome. I have 2 girls, sisters doing the race one is a Jr Sailor and the other is a Jr Sailor coach. There dad did it and they lost him 5 years ago and they are over joyed to get to do something that there dad did and talked about. I really don't care that the M 24 are doing it and was only ever concerned about the safety part of it, not getting any sleep and staying up for 40 + hours is going to be tough.
  11. Air Racer, Why all the hate? I don't even know you and you went and made it personal, Why?? I was just wanting to have a discussion on the M 24 being in the Mac and you go and make it personal WTF Dude. Yup I am over weight in that picture and I fixed that, mid life kind of crept up on me. Yes we are doing the Mac and the M 24 is in my class and I hope I don't have to go searching for people after dark in 50 degree water. I have no personal agenda with this post and yes I am on the PHRF LE Committee because I find it very interesting. You seem to have some vendetta against PHRF LE and that was before my time and I don't know anything about that and I don't know who your talking about not finishing the Mills Race and whats that got to do with anything? I just want to race have a good time and have all boats make it safe. Why you have to go and be such a dick ? Why cant you have a simple open discussion about sailing?
  12. I am quite surprised that the M 24 is allowed to do the Port Huron Mack after what just happened in Mobile.
  13. Here is a shot of one of the winches in the sun, I like how they turned out and was by far a cheaper option then new winches.
