Super Theoretical... Replace keel ballast possible?

my Boatspeed23 had no keel ballast. Dinghies have no keel ballast.

"Heaven Can Wait" 24 hour Yacht Race

We (boatspeed23) were the upside down boat at the start. Unfortunately as we rounded up in a big gust my wife fell onto the boom injuring her ribs (fortunately not as badly as we first thought). Our attention was on her rather than righting the boat and another gust rolled it right over. The lake is 1metre shallower than a BS23 rig in that area and was stuck fast. Game over. Before the start, and before we had put the headsail up our top speed was 14.8 kts... Well done to all who competed and especially those sports boats and dinghies that completed the course.

Excellent HCW. That'll add to the colour of the event. But do skiffs make Cat 7? Or can off the beach boats race too? Skiffs are welcome to race as long as they bring additional support boats(s) "My Kindy" has done the OLD before - 2007. My Kindy is a bit more than a skiff and has always had cat 7 safety. shame it's currently out the water

We're back looking at the Costin 7, 'Sugar Plum Fairy' again. The kids are keen, and it's the best bang for buck option I've seen in a long time. Having talks with the owner at the moment, but have to sell the other one first. I'm not going to try and sell it here though! Is that the blue Costin 7 that used to be on Lake Macquarie? If so I was keen on buying it at one time. Nicely built but the thought of trapeze was a step too far for Mrs HotD

there's a Catalina festival at Rathmines on saturday (sea planes, vintage cars & bikes etc.) Shouldn't be a problem at the ramp but I guess they'll be plenty of people around; depends when you are launching.

it can't be a real sport boat HCW - it's got a reef in...

Wallop (Sydney 41) got out a couple of weeks ago. Just plan to use the high tide, follow the markers and there shouldn't be a problem.

"boats sailing the same course" now that's a novel idea. Does that mean everyone gets to go to Wangi this year?

reckon you'll be close enough to have a sniff?? I've tried a conventional kite and think the boat goes better sailing rhumb lines until wind is over 15 knots and sailing angles becomes worth it. what dimensions are the kite's are you running? (maybe we should take this to the Mungral thread!

there's only one thing better than a Mungral on the lake and that's two Mungrals on the lake.

when we saw you on the rocks we said "Mmmmnn, they'll be there a while" and handed the beers round. Couldn't believe it when you cruised past later! (Must have been that huge lump of kelp around the keel...) I presume you didn't get any outside assistance to help you continue in the race
