Going crazy on an Island Packet 35

Of course I would sail it home, are you kidding? Pick a nice window thanks to retirement and it's Transpac Australis, lol. Rig loads are my worry too, I want to enjoy this time. I'm done testing myself. Really surprised about the commonality between the current boats given the displacements.
  2. The BrisVegas crew are certainly doing wonders for new member enrollments.

Amazing what you can get away with after a few years init, lol.

I have to say though a well equipped 40'er is at the limit of what I want to handle, physically or economically. To bookend the conversation, at the minimal end of the equation is the Randell 33 which I have posted previously on another thread. A very well respected local designer of both sail and power. He designed this as his retirement boat. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wannanup/sail-boats/randell-33-motor-sailer/1210571741

My god Ole, you are a fleet owner! Good luck to you. A "walk through" is not essential just easier access hopefully with a base station near the water. While scoping the Z40 today for the third time I noticed a 36 nearby. It looked like a folding stern swim platform could work. Did they all have the dunny in the middle of the boat? I seem to remember you posting something about this. The other complicating issue is my best mate is also a Ginger so sun protected areas are a bonus.

Any chance of a nice Adams 36 coming on the market at some point?

    Who killed MR. CLEAN?

Jesus Gouver this is a small provincial club we are talking about! You can't just parachute Clean in there!!
  8. Bergy, I think you should take a break. This thread isn't worth it, seriously. It's serious but not that serious if you know what I mean. It's not real.

From an objective point of view I have also been looking at Cats. Starting to get my head around that.

Thank you Ish for your trademark honesty, you are probably right. At 8000kg it as heavy as a Zeston 40 which is another on the shortlist. This one is getting more affordable the longer it sits. https://yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/zeston-pilot-house-sloop/215138

Yes I do Zonkers but I am also a gentleman so not too much light upwind stuff anticipated.

All good suggestions, thanks. My problem is that here in Oz choices are limited. There is currently only 1 IP35 for sale and it is on the other side of the country so hopping aboard one to check it out is an effort. It's disappointing to hear they are a lug to sail, the underbody doesn't look that bad for a displacement cruiser. Again the lack of boats here makes it difficult to evaluate. Am I to assume from comments here that the steering is a worm drive type through the transom? The NE400 looks fabulous but a bit out of our budget and I doubt one will come on the market here anyway.
  14. Jack may go on a bit but he has produced more real facts here than the rest of the forum combined. All we hear from you side is vitriol and at least a few of you are in the sin bin already for various offenses. There are more than a few people on this thread that actually just want answers not twisted hyperbole.
  15. Any what the fuck does that make you? A member troll or a trolling member?

You are right and I think we should stop. It's a very confronting issue and it probably should never been posted. For the life of me I can't think why 2 people in the public eye would choose this method of announcing their mating intentions but it's a strange world hey?

    the return of lia

I'd feel a bit weird following Scooter on FB to get info relating to this thread. That's icky. If he has time for FB posts why can't he update his own threads? Do I need to follow you on FB as well for updates?
  19. The real anomaly here is that the organising club of the most prodigious yacht race in the Southern hemisphere the ROLEX Sydney to Hobart has been completely schtum, nothing, not a word. Instead of taking control of the situation they have left it to the 100 club, the media and social forums to run with the issue. They have learned nothing since their last disaster.
  20. Maybe as the system powered down it reverted to safety items only. Kicked the AIS back into gear.
