https://goldengloberace.com/whats-going-on/ An interesting summary from Don on the minds of the competitors. Another of not what you would normally get from the RO.

Ha ha, come on who else watched this based on the comment from CapnK? I know I’m not the only one

Agree that was an excellent lesson in self steering, albeit I got lost about half way through and I think Don did too. A nice history lesson in Aussie RTW sailors too. Sad to see Phill drop out, but why take him off the leaderboard page!! He is still out there in Francis class, and put Francesco up there too Don while you are at it.
  5. Comanche has gold plated rams for this reason?

    Sobering accident report

A worthwhile read for sure and many excellent views here Not discussed here is whether or not a boom brake would have made a difference. I use one on my in boom furler and it works very well through gybes, as the wind increases I just add more loops to increase the friction, no preventer is needed. http://marine.wichard.com/fiche-A|WICHARD|7150-0203030000000000-ME.html reading the instructions again, I see that it is only for a mainsail of 40 Sqm, so not suitable in this case. Wonder if there is a brake that would be though?

One of the great responses at the time was a comic showing a group of school kids looking up at the painting, and one says, “quick let’s get outa here before someone thinks we did it”

    downwind boat speed

Carefull not to ‘barn door’ the sail, you need a sail shape, ie a little roundness, not completely flat
  11. I got a laugh out of this one http://clipperroundtheworld.com/crew-diary/psp-logistics/race-2-day-9-punta-del-este-to-cape-town6
  12. I'm sure I can get better reactions than I have already, I'm disappointed really In the meantime I'll continue to troll thru the Clipper site, and try to find some interesting posts to enlighten the cynical.
  13. Ok so I can't seem to get anyone else to scroll thru the reports from boats, so here is another that I found interesting today, https://clipperroundtheworld.com/crew-diary/dare-to-lead/race-2-day-12-punta-del-este-to-cape-town5 26 knts, then a crash gybe! Ban that guy from the helm

  15. Anyone else find the race commentary from the Clipper race very bland and dull? Well dive into the crew posts for some more interesting stuff, here is a post from a novice describing a kite drop, made me laugh https://www.clipperroundtheworld.com/crew-diary/unicef/race-2-day-3-punta-del-este-to-cape-town6 there must be some more that are a good read.
