    White supremacy and the internet

You're entitled to your opinion. Had you bothered to actually read some of my previous posts where I DO support more regulatory oversight in the US, under certain conditions and up to a point - you would not say what you're saying. Because I'm "pro-gun", you've automatically pigeon-holed me into your stereotype of what you think an NRA redneck in the US must be like. There's not much I can do at this point to change your mind on that, nor do I frankly care what you think of me or my POV. The simple fact of the matter is that I honestly don't care what NZ or AUS does with their gun laws..... your country, your rules. Whether you believe it or not, like it or not - I'm simply pointing out that IMHO, NZ has overreacted - just like AUS did - to a one-off event where the NZ history simply doesn't support taking those sorts of drastic measures. The fact of the matter is that there was not a problem before this incident and the NZ society seemed to function just fine and with very little problems despite the easy availability of these types of weapons. That it took an outsider nutjob to come to the country and take advantage of those freedoms to essentially now punish hundreds of thousands of law abiding kiwi gun owners is more than a bit ironic. The uncomfortable truth is that a politician is using a tragic event to advance an agenda and more than anything to be seen as "doing something". The PM is at least astute enough to not let a crisis go to waste. But yet the root cause of this tragic event is essentially ignored and covered over by the very tangible act of banning guns from the people who were never a threat in the first place. The root cause is the hate and the ability for that hate to be promulgated far and wide to a global audience in real time. Dealing with that would be far more effective and there could be some targeted laws that would likely pay immediate dividends to stopping future attacks such as these. But that's too politically difficult as it would inconvenience some other folks who are more politically aligned with her, so she is going after the easy low hanging fruit. And I don't really blame her. I would probably do the same if I were in her shoes. But it doesn't make it right and more importantly if does make it effective. But you all will be able to point to NZ in 20 years and say "SEE, NO MASS SHOOTINGS SINCE CHRISTCHURCH!!" Nevermind that there hadn't been any for the 20 years prior, but that's not worth talking about.

    White supremacy and the internet

But but but...... why is one enumerated freedom OK to be put on the chopping block while others (presumably the ones you care about) are not? And yes, before you lose your shit, I do know that gunz are not an enumerated right in NZ. But I'm talking in general and more specifically how this type of kneejerk reaction to a horrific event by the NZ PM is exactly the same kneejerk response we get here in the US. Yet neither country seems to have any interest in tackling the root cause of the issue and that is the hate speech they spew. Simple direct question for you....... Regardless if you like it or not, do you agree that severely limiting the ability for these people to access and distribute this sort of hate speech would reduce the number of these sorts of attacks?

A series of questions for Jocal.... Feel free to play along

Can you??? I've asked you numerous times what YOU think (not what you parrot what others think). But I have had numerous, numerous posts on addressing and identifying the root causes of violence. Here's just one example of many: You could also try the search function:"root cause"&page=1&author=Shootist Jeff&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy I have many many posts discussing the very complex series of the root causes of violence. Your sole root cause of violence??? GUNZ. Balls!

Merry F'N Christmas, Now We Have a Dead 8 Year Old

Mike, I agree with everything but your last para. 1000% concur that we need to enforce ALL the immigration laws, including those on employers (especially on employers) or change the laws to allow temp guest workers in easily. The broken immigration system is the root cause of ALL these issues and it was broken long before the current buffoon occupied the WH. Your last paragraph is just nonsensical pablum.

JoCal's Obsession with American Firearms Ownership

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA! Thanks randumb, I needed that today. Interestingly, in my travels across the planet - I have come more and more to the opinion that one of the largest failings of American society is that the majority of 'muricans ARE more self-centered and more narcissistic than most others. Of course that is a broad generalization, as there are certainly pockets of that trait in every society. But on the whole, it seems to be more of a pandemic in the US compared to most other societies I've interacted with. And to tie that back to gunz, cuz you know everything is tied to gunz..... is that extreme sense of self-entitlement, narcissism and self-centeredness is likely one of if not THE root cause of many or most of our mass shooting incidents. I think it is certainly the cause of much of the reportedly increasing youth depression epidemic that is sweeping the US. A confluence of many factors including the "everyone gets a medal and everyone is a special snowflake" mentality combined with social media which Yugely amplifies the the differences between perception/expectations and reality. It turns out not everyone is special. Not everyone can be a doctor, a lawyer, a fighter pilot or an astronaut. And that crushing disappointment is magnified on line where everyone creates a facade of perfection. "Look at my perfect boyfriend". "Look at my idyllic life". "Look at my amazing vacay in Tahiti". The pressures of keeping up with that on most people are overwhelming and many people are committing suicide while others just snap and want to take a lot of people out with them before committing suicide as a big "FUCK YOU!" to a society that has let them down.

    Just Another High School Shooting

And no matter how many times you don’t want to hear it, banning all gunz is neither feasible or actually addresses the problem. The problem, as @navig8tor correctly points out is crazy people. Take away one tool of mass murder and a cray zee person intent on mass murder will find another Arson, homemade pressure cooker bombs, box trucks, etc are all proven Mass casualty weapons I simply cannot comprehend the logic of attempting to ban something and punishing the 99.9% of the law abiding while doing zero to address the root cause. And that’s not even taking into effect the chances of this ban achieving the goals you think it will. Fuck you and your dystopian failed vision and the unicorn you rode in in!!

When does Social media hate speech become a real Threat???

But its NOT a false analogy. That post on a webpage has likely directly led to the commission of the act where in the absence of those postings nothing would have probably happened. The posts are far more causal that the gun used. The guns do not cause someone to kill others, but those social media posts likely do. For instance, there is mounting evidence that social media such as FB and twatter are directly linked to gang shootings because gangs are using social media to taunt each other and to organize violent retaliations to those taunts. When you take all the gunz away and these angry, disaffected young men still find way to kill masses of people with bombs, arson, trucks and poison.... are you still going to blame the tool or are you going to wake up and address the root causes instead?

    Scrap F-35 buy J-20

Hey fucktard, yes it IS that simple. If your plane suddenly noses over and you didn't command it - one of the first things a real pilot would do is click off the AP and fly the aircraft out of the situation. Its a basic unusual attitude recovery that first time Cessna pilots are taught to master literally in the first few hours of instruction. The underlying issue - and I would lay big money that it will be found as a causal factor in this crash - is that moderal commercial aviation pilots are taught to rely almost entirely on automation and to "trust the system", even when HAL is fucking up. They have almost ZERO piloting or airmanship skillz. They are nothing but system monitors. Babysitters for the automated systems. I have several friends I race with who fly 777s and 380s and they all tell me the company policy is autopilot ON to the max extent possible. They will actually get in trouble if they manually fly it when not absolutely required. Air France 447 crash in 2009 was a perfect example of this. The young co-pilot didn't understand what the aircraft was telling him and he flew a perfectly good airplane with a malfunctioning sensor into the water and killed all 228 on board. Root cause was that the pilots did not know how to fly the aircraft manually when they were being given bad data. I strongly suspect that the accident investigation will show that the aircraft was recoverable with simple manual pilot intervention. But that the pilot did what he was trained to do and let the system fly the aircraft..... all the way to the ground.
  9. Btw, why are these outrageous displays of violence not causing a backlash against the poor state of mental Heath in this country?? The root cause of all these shootings is mental health. Why are you not spending your inherited millions on addressing that??
  10. Shootist Jeff

Active shooter on the Vegas Strip

Fail. Its not word games. We need to understand the root cause as to why he wanted to kill people. THAT Is the root cause. The truck attacker in Nice, FRA killed 86 with a fucking truck in less time than the nutjob in LV killed 58. The TRUCK was not the root cause of why that attack happened. The 9/11 attackers killed 3000+ with airplanes. Boeing 767s were not the root cause of why that attack happened. Knife attackers in China killed 35 in a train station with knives. Knives were not the root cause of why that attack happened. A homemade bomb killed 168 people in the blink of an eye in OKC. The bomb nor the Ryder truck used to transport the bomb was the root cause of the attack. In ALL of those cases above - we hold the individual(s) responsible for the attack and seek to understand their motives to understand the root FUCKING causes. Yet when someone picks up a gun and does the same - we suddenly lose our minds and blame the tool. You know this! Don't be such a fucking cunt. You're acting all Randumb and shit.
  11. Shootist Jeff

    Is this a racist comment?

I'm fascinated by your sudden awakening lately. What do you think is the root cause of the violence?
  12. Shootist Jeff

    Crabs vs. Trump

I find it amusing that all of you think this clash or split started with trump. Trump is a symptom of this, not the cause. This has been going on for a while and has been manifest in many things. And if you all are unwilling to look past the orange buffoon and take a look the mirror for where the root cause of this is, then we are truly doomed. And by "you all", I'm including all sides. But you are all so focused on the boogeyman with a combover, that you are missing the big picture. As SOL says, while you are looking left and right - you are not looking up to see who or what is really pissing on you. IMHO, if we don't get this "Tribalization" under control, the US as we know it is lost. There are many aspects to this incredibly complex issue. But one of the primary root causes is our every increasing fracturing of society. There is little to no sense of shared purpose or shared identity anymore. There is no sense of national pride anymore. In fact its almost become a dirty word to speak of nationalism or the nation. People identity as their tribe first and nation 2nd or 3rd. Until this gets fixed, if its not already too late.... there will be more trumps. Our only saving grace at the moment is he a fairly harmless incompetent narcissist who doesn't have the attention span to really fuck with the country and our institutions. But god help us if we get someone in office who is actually good at being an authoritarian.
  13. The only one I can think of would be prohibiting the mention of the names of mass murderers. It's also about the only thing that could cause me to mention their names in one of my posts. I'm Uncooperative that way. And I could find a way to do it on the Dark Web if properly motivated. Like by my Uncooperative nature. The great thing about the internet is that it's darn near impossible to censor. China is trying mightily and have managed it only by refusing to have access to the rest of the world. Well fortunately, most of the globe doesn't frequent the "dark web". I wouldn't even know how to get to it if I wanted to. I agree with you that not being allowed to mention the names of mass murderers would help. I think there are others as well. Such as sanctioning people who post cyberbullying stuff and not allowing criminal gangs and others to post taunting and violent images on social media. Social media is becoming the source of much youth violence. I'm not sure what the SOLution is, but everytime I ask "what is different" now from say back in the 50s, 60s and early 70s wrt gun violence when guns were easy to get and just as plentiful - the answer I keep coming back to is mass media and increasingly now social media. We can never have effective solutions unless we correctly identify the root causes. AR-15s were available long before graphic violence in everyday media became commonplace and accepted. What's new and different is the rapid escalation of violent imagery and themes in everyday life as well as the fracturing of the usual social bonds of family, community, church, school, etc. I strongly believe that as we become increasingly driven into tribalized social structures and told that everyone else is the enemy - violence will become more and more the norm for resolving simple disputes. Gunz did not cause this.

UGGH! Again, the gunz are not the ROOT FUCKING CAUSE!!!! Why do you persist in perpetuating blatant lies and false facts? You had always appeared smarter than this. Maybe I was wrong. Someone intent on mass murder will find a way if one particular tool is harder to get. Box trucks for example, which so far hold the record for most efficient killing mechanisms of late. AND they are already required to be licensed and registered. Yet ISIS sympathizing goat fuckers seems intent on using them to kill people in large numbers. Is the box truck the ROOT CAUSE of those attacks? Or is the root cause the ideology in their hearts. Was the AK-47s used in the Paris attacks earlier the ROOT CAUSE of those attacks? No, of course they were not. So stop being so fucking deliberately obtuse. ya cunt!

Uhhhh, you might want to examine what a "root cause" actually is. I don't think even the most ardent gun grabber here would honestly admit that gunz are the root cause of the problem. It would be like saying cars are the root cause or DUI or Jet Airliners were the root cause of 9/11.

Just Another Restaurant Mass Murder By Gun

Bullshit that's a non-partisan post! Nor is it even slightly an "objective" interpretation of our current situation. An objective interpretation of our current situation would look at why people are snapping and deciding to go on killing sprees on a routine basis. We didn't have this shit 25 years ago except on an extremely rare occasion, yet guns were just as plentiful then and gun laws were FAR more lax and access to guns was FAR FAR easier. An objective view of our current situation would look first at what has changed and lament and focus on those things. There is nothing about any current "interpretations" of a 200 year old amendment has done anything to change the access to gunz. No SCOTUS ruling has made gunz easier to get. Gunz are FAR harder to buy legally NOW than they were when I bought my first AR-15 in 1984. Look instead to the breakdown in social norms that once frowned on violence but now glorifies it. Look to the breakdown in social norms that once discouraged interpersonal conflict but now encourages and even celebrates it now. I'm sorry but the root cause, yet again, is not gunz or other toolz . It is a breakdown in society and our little liberal dystopian experiment in "anything goes", no one has any personal responsibility for their actions, its always someone else's fault, everyone gets a trophy for fogging a mirror, and all conflicts must be resolved with violence because that what we see on TV and movies and music and CNN all day and every day has come back to bite us in the ass. So congrats..... gunz are not to blame here because we've always had gunz in our society and they were not a problem in our recent past. What has changed is society is fucked and people are getting fucked daily and finding various ways to cope. Huge numbers of people are killing themselves with Opioids, others put a gun in their mouth or a rope around their neck and check out, others are killing other people for the fun of it. All of those things have a root cause in a decayed and failing society. Gunz are not causing that. [/rant]

The Left needs to know they would lose a civil war.

I don’t completely disagree with you. What’s your alternative? And btw I never claimed there wouldn’t be some who are hurt. I think there however is more harm in doing nothing and letting our slow societal slide continue. As I said, trump and this populism we are seeing is a symptom not a cause. Doing nothing and continuing to put bandaids on the open wound hoping to “not get anyone hurt” will likely IMHO to lead to far more suffering. Think of the countless lives we could have saved and the destruction prevented had we addressed the root causes leading up to the last civil war. There were plenty of warning signs in the preceding decades that led to that ugly period. There are signs now of the same thing. I’d rather see a few economically hurt now tha n see our country collapse into another conflagration. Just saying.

Heller v. DC being heard today

Thank you. I think the vast majority of gun owners would be open to common sense restrictions if it were not for the completely and almost universal attempt to regulate gunz to fit an agenda that rarely is about true public safety. Part of what infuriates me about the notion of gun control is there are few if any parallel efforts to actually address the root causes of the violence that they gun regulations supposedly are to address. Gunz are NOT the root cause. They are merely symptoms and more technically are enablers. MADD was successful in changing behavior by addressing the root causes of drunken driving rather than going after the enablers. They did it with a patient campaign of education and public awareness along with a push for legislation that increased punishment for bad behavior. ALL of which I have called for. They didn't push for silly new laws on the sale of booze or carz, but rather pushed for actually just fucking enforcing the existing laws that were already on the books. That is exactly what I have called for here. Try that for a while and if it doesn't work, then I'm happy to revisit taking gunz away from people.

    Just Another High School Shooting

Nothing any gun lobby has done or might have done didn't prevent society from doing studies on root causes of violence such as: fundamental shifts in societal attitudes, breakdown of the family and traditional values, the effects of the war on drugs, forced poverty of minorities by crowding them into inner city slums (red lining), lack of access to mental health care and health care in general, the weakening of social safety nets and forcing the Po-Leece into becoming the community social service provider of last resort..... to name just a few of the many numerous things that have changed. None of this has anything to do with gunz and yet gunz preceded all of those issues. Gunz were just as relatively plentiful and FAR FAR easier to get - yet gun murders were rare and mass murders, much less mass shootings, were practically unheard of. In fact I would say that of that of all of those things above - it is the War on Drugs that is likely the singular root cause that then caused the domino effect of most of the rest of those things listed above. Take away the failed WoD and much of those issues go away almost overnight. Its funny (sad funny, not haha funny) that we are repeating almost to the letter what America experienced in the 1920s prohibition era. The profit fueled violence, the extreme liberalization of the country where practically anything goes, Law enforcement being singularly focused on stopping the black-market booze trade, massive amounts of $$ going into a black hole all caused a near breakdown in society when we lurched suddenly into an abyss of lawlessness. People back then blamed gunz for the Al Capone gang shootouts in the streets between rival gangs or cops. Knee Jerk laws were enacted against military style automatic weapons and short barreled shotguns, because that's what the gangs liked. But that didn't even dent the use of them for illegal purposes during the raging height of the bloody prohibition era. Fortunately, we had the sense to knock that shit off quickly and stop the bleeding. The gun lawz had little to nothing to do with the reduction in the killing. Once prohibition was lifted, the killing stopped almost overnight because there was no longer an extreme profit motive to kill or have gun battles in the street. The war on drugs is just repeating the same exact path, yet no one is seeing the similarities. What's the old saying about insanity being the notion that doing the same thing over and over again will result in a different outcome? But sure, of course its GUNZ! It can't be anything else..... [facepalm]

Exactly! I have long and consistently said I am FOR reasonable gun control laws. I support Universal BGCs, I am not terrible opposed to registration as long as I can get some guarantees they will not be abused (again). I want existing gun laws rigorously and draconianly enforced. I want more mental health issues included in Background checks. I want straw purchasers strung up by their balls from the highest bridge. I am ok with training and licensing provided it isn't used as a roadblock (again). Bump stocks??? FUCK ME, I didn't even know they existed much less know they are legal for sale. BAN THEM. TODAY. But they have nothing to do with the gun manufacturers, they are aftermarket crap. I call for all that above, And yet I am labeled a gun nutter and THE PROBLEM as a result. Fuck you all! Seriously FUCK YOU! I AM MAD. I am mad as hell that some fuckwit snapped and killed a bunch of people. One of my friends was among the dead. That sucks! I cannot begin to describe how mad I am at someone who would do this. But I am equally mad at all of you cunt-kayaks who are ignoring the root causes of why this happens. in fact, Deliberately ignoring it because it serves your political fucking agenda! Most of you could give two shits about the victims. Dull razr, specious ed, and several others - and you know who you are - could not fucking care less about the dead. It is a convenient event to bitch about. Well fucking good for you. You suck! YOU are the one's who are CREE PEE! AND I AM MAD that we are once again focusing on the wrong thing. We are focusing on the inanimate object that is perfectly harmless until some evil whackadoo nut job picks it up and pulls the trigger. Where was the hotel security when he was hauling 30+ gunz into his suite in the Mandalay FUCKING Bay? I've been there, lots. Taking that many rifles into a hotel room is not an easy thing to do without anyone noticing. Where was someone to say WTF? and call the po-leece? I hope the Mandalay and MGM corp gets sued for Billions over this. They are as culpable as the shooter. But its goes back to our society not giving a shit. We are so fucking worried about privacy and minding our own business that we ignore stuff like this that's right in our face. I guarantee someone close to this fuckknuckle had an inkling something was going on. A guy who has never been a gun nut doesn't just go out and buy 30+ rifles in a short time frame. Where was his GF? Where were his neighbors? Where was his family? Society is the root cause here, not the bit of metal and plastic. And the more we fucking focus on those bits of metal and plastic, the further we get from addressing the root cause of this societal issue. But the reason we don't is because we as a society are FUCKING SHORT-SIGHTED COWARDS. To do what I have long suggested takes time and commitment and courage to follow through. MADD did it and it took 30 years. We don't have the courage to wait 30 minutes. Until someone steps up with the courage to do the right thing, this is not going to stop. And no amount of JUST DO SOMETHING NOW is going to help. In fact it will make it worse. I'M FUCKING SPITTING MADD AT OUR FAILURE AND COWARDICE TO ADDRESS THE HUMAN AND SOCIETAL ISSUE HERE!!! So you all can gargle my shaved nutsack!

too early to talk about AR15s eh lads?

I'm actually not afraid of research at all. But there is a difference between research and advocacy. There is no law that stops the CDC or any other gov't agency from conducting true unbiased research. It's just that the CDC was slapped too many times in the past for doing the advocacy part that they are now gun shy (pun intended). Obama's mandated CDC research effort after Sandy Hook didn't run afoul of any laws and Congress did not go all a twitter. And there is good reason to not allow advocacy. Its a constitutionally protected right, therefore the gov't cannot and should not advocate against that right. That is up to Congress and the SCOTUS. If the CDC wants to do studies and present facts and let those bodies decide policy - I am 100% ok with it. However, what I am disturbed about is the focus seems to be only on "gun violence". The real studies should be on Violence itself. I hugely advocate for researchers to delve deeply into that root cause. Gun violence is just one subset of the greater problem. What I feel is the real issue here is that I think the root causes are social and not medical or disease based. So I frankly think the CDC is the wrong agency to conduct this research. Why are sociologists not studying the underlying issues of gun violence? This is not an epidemiological issue. Its a social issue. I STRONGLY believe that the reason most researchers and politicians stay away from this avenue of social causes is because they know it would likely open up a huge can of worms and most likely show the decay and rot of our society in a glaring light. And because the fixes to those are costly, would take generations and call into question longstanding social policies that the critters and others would really rather we not delve into - they instead point to tools and say - "Look over there..... SHINY!"

Should mental health be a requirement to have guns?

Shaggy, I obviously am passionate about the subject (as evadent) and I enjoy engaging with someone who is actually interested with having a real discussion or is asking honest questions - as you clearly have. I do try to differentiate my responses based on how sincere they appear to be. You are correct that I do come off as defensive to some - but those responses are typically to posters I have long history with and who have demonstrated they are not interested in serious, honest discussion. Or we've gone around so many times that we've hit an impasse and its simply too much effort to go round again and a sarcastic jab is both easier and more full-filling. Its a weakness of mine, I admit to that. As to your clarifications - no need to apologize. I didn't take your questions as advocacy for a particular stance one way or the other, which is why I tried to explain my POV. You are correct that in AUS, there was little or no disconnect between both sides of your gun spectrum simply because you 1) didn't have the same history and culture with guns that we do and 2) more importantly because the right is not enshrined in your constitution. So when the post Pt Arthur laws came down, there was not much of a legal leg to stand on when your gov't decided to most ban guns. OTOH, here in the US there is increasingly polarization on the subject between those who believe in our Constitutional rights and those who are more interested in public safety than rights. I don't think either camp disagrees that there is a gun violence problem in the US. The disagreement is how to address it. The public safety > Constitutional rights side thinks that banning or heavily restricting access to a tool will make us all safer, personal rights be damned. The Constitutional rights > (perceived) public safety camp says believes that the real issue is "violence" in our society caused by many root cause factors (poverty, war on drugs, mental illness, gangs, etc) and that simply banning a tool does not address those causal issues but still impedes on law-abiding citizens' liberties. We do not believe that is a fair tradeoff for little return. And so it goes. As I tried to make very clear earlier.... it is wrong to try to paint the gun advocate crowd as being "anti-regulation". That is simply not the case. We are anti "stupid" regulation. And we do not think that the majority of the proposed new laws that come out everytime there is a mass shooting actually does anything to address the causal issues. And furthermore there are already laws on the books that would have addressed the vast majority of the current issues if only they were better enforced. My whole focus in terms of actual gun regulation is let's try to make work what we already have through stricter enforcement and better data sharing rather than ramming even more new onerous legislation down everyone's throats that will also not be enforced on the bad guys but will only impact those that follow the rules. One final thing that bears mentioning is that if the US enacted AUS style gun regulations (i.e. effectively banning most private ownership of guns) - that Bent is absolutely correct when he says that "gun violence" will do down. However, I am not convinced that overall violence rates will go down, because taking all the guns away from us still doesn't address the root causes of violence that I mentioned above. Those factors will still exist and people will still kill each other in droves, they will just find plenty of other ways to do it. One needs only to look at the UK and see they are now contemplating a "knife ban" in the wake of their gun ban - as banning guns certainly hasn't seemed to affect the overall murder rate there appreciably. And then there is that pesky thing we have called the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is very easy to take our POV as callus and indifferent to the lives that are lost due to gun violence. That couldn't be further from the truth. But the fact remains that we also hold our liberty and personal freedoms every bit as much in high regard as we do life. As wise man once said "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." As we have seen in our unique American history, prohibitions of things that are bad for us do not have a great track record of success. So we are naturally wary of repeating the same mistakes again. And we have also learned that once you give up a freedom - its hard if not impossible to ever get it back. So the fear about the erosion of freedom when it comes to gunz is not just about the gunz, but is a greater fear of going down a very slippery slope of losing other freedoms as well. And FTR - the only reason I'm writing this diatribe is because there is zero wind today or I would be out sailing right now. Bah humbug!

I am really impressed with Shooter Jeff and Tom

I abused him and his elk (and will continue to do so) when they prove they do not even have the most basic of knowledge of gunz, yet they think they have all the answers to regulate them. Unlike whoever used the Pirelli z-rating tire analogy - we are not expecting anything even CLOSE to the level of minutiae. But if you are going to propose to ban or heavily regulate out of existence entire classes of weapons, then you'd better have at least a passing understanding of how they work and why what you're proposing will actually achieve what you think it will. Proposing to ban them because they are "black and scary looking" or because you heard from someone who heard it from someone that .22s are powerful mass murder destructive weapons is not a great basis for legislation. Sloopy, jocal & Co. are no better than the idiot parents who refuse to immunize their kids because they heard it causes autism. They use junk science. We ridicule them with no issue, so therefore sloops and jocal deserve all the scorn that comes their way. They mean well, but they are uninformed asshats. And they are ALMOST as dumb as someone who believes that a tool which is misused to cause harm is the actual "Root Cause" of the incident. That's like saying that gasoline and matches are the root causes of arson.
  24. Shootist Jeff

This is an example of why we don't trust Gun Grabberz

I remain convinced that we need to concentrate on regulating people and behavior, not tools. For the same reasons we didn't ban cars and booze when we were trying to address the scourge of drunk driving, we should not focus on gunz as the solution. Address the behavior and then you will get somewhere. I agree that more needs to be done to address this violence issue. Too many people are dying. But you fix that with addressing the root causes of a problem. Gunz are not the root cause of why people are killing each other.
  25. Except that this is not a root cause, nor is it even a true statement. America is not "drowning" in gunz. And irregardless, a tiny, tiny fraction of gun owners commit all the gun violence.
