  1. Just got emailed a wonderful link (thanks Graham) that shows full length videos on YouTube of Trimaran Spirit of England in her hay day when she was owned and skippered by Peter Clutterbuck and crewed by a very young Brian Thompson. There's some great race footage showing of what it was like racing a formula 40 back in the late 90's. 3. Orange Code, possible start Sunday the 29th october says facebook. Nothing here http://www.teamactual.eu/category/actualites/ yet.
  4. 35ft light (1300kg) 53m2 main + 19m2 self-tack jib. 8,2 m wide. Has big assymetric daggerboards on the amas and one rudder. What would be the most buck for the money/speed option if you want to improve the boat? Its a point to not add too much strain on the construction so my guess is that canting rig would be nice - also the t-rudder could be fine - but the foil assist - easy version is to keep the boards but add a smaller lifting foil close to the amas bows. But that will generate more strain.

The Pulse 600 Saved My Life

Well, the new trimaran by Corsair saved my sailing life anyway... In short, I found myself without a fleet in my early 40's asking the question "what's next?". I learned to sail at age 7. I won my first national championship at 11, was a four year letter at USMMA with a few national titles in hand by graduation in 1997. After college, like many others, I continued to sail lasers and V15s though many of my fellow collegiate sailing competitors went into full time Olympic campaigns. I qualified and competed in the Olympic Trials in 2000, 2004 & 2008 to showcase how much better the full time campaigners became over the years. For my personal fleet, I traded usage of an S525 for a J22 along the way and raced it for 13 years. I ended up with a J30 that my wife and I enjoyed overnight cruising on but now with three kids, two boys 9 & 6 and a girl now 3, the contentment and solice the J30 brought my wife and I does not quite do it for all of us. One day about three years ago, the owner of the J22 Green Flash called requesting his boat back. We originally traded boats because we were both moving simultaneously, I left my boat where it was in Port Arthur for him to use, he left the J22 in Houston for me to use. Sadly, I delivered Green Flash back to Port Arthor and the two of us decided I would donate the S525 along with some cash from him to the sea scouts. I looked around for a new fleet and was not pleased with the state of the sailing world. It was the new age of the handy sport boat with new fleets popping up every six months. I went to a regatta that had 8 fleets of sport boats under 30 feet none of which had more than 6 boats and I could only think "this could be an awesome regatta with 50 boats on the line but instead it is a whole bunch of mini-regattas going on simultaneously, yipee, what is wrong with this picture?". I had no intention on waiting for one fleet to take over the others which may take years and didn't care to buy a boat that propaganda dictated "that's where the competition is going." Watching the sport get stretched so thin was depressing and, frankly, I just wanted to go sailing again, have fun and go fast. After much research, I bought the Corsair Pulse 600 last spring and can't say enough good things about this boat. I have raced it with my family of five, single handed and with an experienced crew or two . I have hit 25 knots with three experienced crew and I have returned to port at 19 knots with my 6 year old attempting to do flips on the windward trampoline. One Friday afternoon, I left the office, splashed the boat left the dock at 2:45, went sailing came back put the boat away and left for home at 5:07 after logging 21 miles of blasting around Galveston Bay in my button down shirt and slacks. For the first time in a long time, I am excited about just going out for a sail. The boat is fast while staying within the envelope of control and comfort. Over the last year I have had the opportunity to push the limits of the Pulse 600 and have become more pleased with my decision to purchase it each time. The boat rounds up when it should and plows through pitch-pole situations just as the designers intended. It weight 992 lbs rigged and trailers at 90 mph with no problem. You can take my word this boat is fast and easy or check this out this fast replay of the Galveston Bay Cruising Association's Rum Race #2, an 11.3 mile, staggered start with fast boats starting last and everyone theoretically finishing the triangle course at the same time. TEAM AMERICA 142 is the green track leaving the dock when the first boat is rounding Mark #1. https://www.facebook.com/chadtroywilson/posts/10213254384977377?notif_t=like&notif_id=1497797056038278 And a first attempt of some on board footage, admittedly not the best but it doesn't suck either So the message here goes to all those Anarchist who may be contemplating suicide of their sailing life, THERE IS HOPE and it is the Corsair Pulse 600.
  8. Just bought a new-to-me Crowther Buccaneer 33 (stretched to 35') tri. This is my first tri, so I'll have plenty of questions. The previous owner had a low speed grounding that he says chewed up the tip of the board. He gave it to some guy for repair, but got busy, didn't follow up for months, and then had to take a job cross-country and sold the boat in a rush to me. I bought it knowing that the board was not there, and I knew there was a chance I wouldn't be able to track it down. So far, I can't get ahold of the guy who supposedly has it (and I would be happy to pay if repairs were done, but I can't make contact). So... my options are to build or buy. I have the original plans, here are the basic specs: Length: 7' 5" Width: 1' 11.25" Max Thickness: 2 7/8" I think a custom board will be out of my price range, so I'm looking for something used that will be a drop-in or can be used with minor modification. Anyone upgraded their F-boat boards and have a spare collecting dust? Would it fit? Any suggestion appreciated.
  9. Hello Crowd Wisdom. I know this is a can of worms but I'm going to wade in for the sake of shortening my learning curve. Or confusing me. I'll let you know. Matthew wrecked our beloved Dragonfly SW800 Race (26') at the dock. Combo my stupidity (not bare poles) and well, not sure. Mostly my stupidity. Steep learning curve. Anyway... We are a family of 5 about 2 years into deepening our skills on the GA coastline with sights on a Florida and Bahamas trip once the 3 year old can swim (say 2 years from now likely). Our Dragonfly was an amazing boat. But small for 5. So we are looking at moving up in length and now considering a catamaran. Here's the choices (but welcome other input)... Contour 34, Gemini 105mc, PDQ. I'll say I'm captivated by the trimarans on the whole, which is why I chose the Quorning boat. Fast, fun to sail, pointed really well. Trailering, even with crane assist, is appealing. Folding the beam down, shallow draft and the deck (net) real estate are big selling points. Seems the Contour 34 has all I'm after with real blue water potential. But my wife is curious about the catamaran for cabin space and entertaining.... Our marina can lift a Gemini... Yes, budget will win but I'd be willing to wait for the budget and right solution to merge sometime in the future... Thanks for your input and wisdom. Truly. I'm thankful for this forum as I've learned so much. Rad

    Chris White Discovery 21

Hi all, Saw the Discovery 21 at the Annapolis Boat Show yesterday and the kit with completed carbon nomex hulls, carbon beams, etc was under $20,000. I was really impressed when comparing its all carbon construction and price tag to the D24 and Pulse 600. Interesting folding mechanism and really light weight due to materials. Note I originally sought to explore this further on the previous Discovery 20 thread but it is archived http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index.php?showtopic=38386 As a basis, I'm looking for a new project as my 2nd Farrier F25C refit is nearing completion (i.e. adding new F85SR high volume hulls) so any perspective will be greatly welcomed. Thanks all, James
  11. Well for lack of a better name, and until a proper name comes to mind we are going to build what was known as the Trikala 19 made in Italy then Spain in the late 90's. Kurt Hughes completely redesigned the hulls and made in my opinion one of the sexiest small day sailor trimarans on the market. We have VERY ambitious plans to have the first boat water ready in less than (6) yes, six weeks. You can track the updates to this thread, or come see the build blog on http://www.3Hulls.com and for the guys that will complain that I am trying to get free advertising on SA, we have already been in contact and requested the ad rates. So flame on, or watch with envy as we attempt to build this cool little boat in record time.
  12. Check it out!! http://www.graingerdesigns.net/trimarans/tr36-trimaran/
  13. This is definitely an interesting design, it's seriously outside the box (like half way around the block from the box): anyone know the scoop? I'm not sure what to think, it looks like it was designed mostly by feel but it seems to be done with much higher standards the infamous Flyin'Hawayan or Tincan... Lots of pics here: https://www.facebook.com/BigKanu-641266259314479/
