Come hang out with us at the water's edge, Ty. We've had a great reception, and are stoked to be part of what has become quite a cool event.

I, for one, would like to see a photo of Clean and KTB buddying together at the BYC bar. Or, a picture of KTB beating the shit out of Clean and banging his face on the bar will suffice. :)

We might find out. It's only been a month. :) Tale of the tape, my money is on KTB. sorry Al.

You won't see a photo of either. I have a lot more respect for my Club and myself than I have animosity for any classless, paycheck-sniffing piece of unprincipled garbage.

Regardless, I enjoyed a day sitting on a powerboat watching races and drinking beer. This (f)unemployment does have its perks. Really excited that CVT got rolling, just bummed he couldn't race his last race today due to a breakdown. Go Team CVT!

Back to the Club tomorrow to not spend money and work on the boat and then go racing. Hope to see you guys out there, Polaris.

Great day on the water, just waiting for shit to process so we can post the full day's vids here.

In the meantime, enjoy this one - much more fun when the skipper is mic'd!

In watching the sequence of the port-starboard crash on the Anarchy website: OTW (start with a bang), it looks to me that the port boat did not do a complete 360 (one tack and one jibe) after he got the penalty. I'm not a rule expert when it comes to match racing so am I missing something here? If you can, please state the rrs rule that applies.

Thanks

Rusty

As I understand it, they can carry one penalty until the end of the race. If they can get the other boat to take a penalty, they cancel out, and they don't have to do the turn. If they're carrying one penalty, and get another, they have to turn immediately. The umpire on a chase boat will hold up the flag of the boat that owes a penalty turn until they have done the turn.

Yes, I am aware of that. But look at the video. He obviously thinks he completed the penalty tern (I can not see the flag on the umpire boat, but I assume it is down).

However, he only did one jibe after the contact is made. I pretty sure you have to do the complete 360 all at once, not piecemeal across the race course. At least that is the rule in fleet racing.

Okay, I guess i have to get my RRS book out and look it up. I was hoping to be lazy today.

Okay, I got the book out and C7.2 (a)(1) states "when on a leg of a course to a WINDWARD mark she shall gybe, and. AS SOON AS REASONABLY POSSIBLE, luff to a close hauled course."

So I guess that he did his penalty, as there is no requirement to do a complete 360 (ie: one tack and one gybe).

Sorry to waste everybody's time.

The rules in match racing are different from what you will find in the basic US Sailing RRS book.

Appenix C applies to match racing in the RRS. This is the section that I quoted. And it is a part of my US sailing rulebook.

Is there a different rule book that applies to match racing? I can not find one on the US sailing website?

This is all just really fantastic stuff. Should have brought "Nice Pair" down to spectate from the water. Just one of those things being busy with too many things.

OK...just being a choade here and y'all can flame away if you want, but is it Toyota sponsored all over this circuit? If not, why aren't the American auto companies sponsoring this in the "D?" I have done the Climb Detroit event for all but one of the years in the GM/Ren Cen and the sponsoring car company is Toyota...and I think one year it was Honda. To top it off, they have their cars show cased in the lobby as part of the event. This is no worries...but having a different car company in the GM/Ren Cen? Makes one wonder. OK...I know this isn't usually my cheery self. Just askin' and wonderin'.

Again, Clean and Mer and all the others...this is just an awesome event to watch and be a part of...whether in person or on the big screen of my computer and Justin TV. Thanks all of you!

And to make those stats actually mean something, what was the average viewing time for each page view?

Can't wait to see how many Toyotas are sold because they sponsored a yacht race in Detroit, not to mention new BYC members, let alone new sailors.

quite impressive considering the justin tv feeds never had over 100 viewers at any one time friday... odd that the numbers would go up exponentially on the weekends when everyone is out sailing.

Same thing happened last year. Saturday and Sunday were huge, but not this big at all. In fact, we're not far from the total number of people that watched our Great Texas 300 race, and that was with all the additional interest from local newspapers and a couple TV reports when two cats needed helicopter rescue.

Fun to have BYC members from all over the world chatting on the feed and folks like the PRO keep coming up to me and telling me their phones have been ringing off the hook from randoms amazed they can sit there and watch Bayview racing on their iPhones.

Max concurrent viewers is pinned at 515 thus far.

@Zipped - what was the final for Perry vs. Anna? Did it finish in 4, or take 5?

it was in 4

In the 3rd race Perry was carrying a penalty and then Anna took a double pen but I still don't know what happened. I think one was for rule 17 but I don't know the other

Thanks Zipped. Yeah, I saw race 3 but had to hit the road, so I missed the conclusion. I am not too sure what happened either...while the coverage was good, you just can't see what is going on with only 1(?) camera on shore.

BYC, Clean - helicopter shots would help immensely!

Whats up with the Justin TV videos? none of them seem to be available anymore? Any ideas clean?

The embed links are dead, all you have to do is follow the link provided and look at the older videos on the OTWA page

We'll be sure to include a helicopter in next year's budget!

RC chopper or plane with this type of rig on board might work for the tight race course.

Might actually fit into the SA budget too? I'm sure you could round up a skilled local flyer capable of doing it.

Head tracking camera set up is key. One guy had a twin electric rig set up with two tracking cameras one for the pilot and one for the camera man they used it to get some great footage of a desert offroad race in Socal a few years ago. Turned out really good!
