10 knots of breeze or so, both J/125s walking away but battling it out, Anarchy and Nemesis behind. FT7.5s close together as hell. Vipers, moths, 505s scattered. One boat crew has beer can helmets.

High is moving too. It was pretty dead up here in Channel Islands / Ventura today. It is forcast to get much warmer as the high settles.

Any weather predictions??

"World Championship of the World " ... What a wank. High school kid stuff. You've got a successful regatta. Why damage it's future with that sort of stuff. Yeah, we know. Trying to tweak ISAF's nose and get a reaction so you can squeal. Won't work.

As someone who shoots many regattas year around "Big & Small"

I must say this event is doing quite well for it's age

yesterday I was allowed to ride-along with Team OTWA as I await a New MERCURY Motor

things I observed:

Clean & Co. are really putting in a Huge effort

they made a conscious effort to not have any effect on the actual race/racers (at least on the water)

Last week I was at an event that will be shown on Versus TV

the kit they used included $85,000 HD cameras

C & Co. are making do with what's affordable & Getting something done

What I do - I do by myself, they were short with a crew of 4 (for what they are pulling off)

I had things to say on the boat and was givin a chance to hold the mike = I froze as I didn't have anything appropriate for broadcast

what Clean is bringing is a conversation for close friends gathered around (they just happen to be scattered around the world)

like friend talking it up around the golf-course - things are said that you won't hear on a PGA broadcast

Would I say things Ed or Clean say - NO

they are enjoying themselves and know that if they are having FUN others will get what they are doing (not everyone, that's PBS)

well I got stuff to do like check on the Sucking chargers off and on today as I get weekend projects done

Clean seamed pretty mellow on Sat (must have slept well) cool.gif

I'm out but will be back with a few good shots from yesterday (you can try to figure out witch one's they are) ohmy.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

Synopsis: It "IS" completely possible to spend a Fun day with Clean & Co.

Absolutely NO Competition on the OTWA boat, I was just a guest - All wa very COOL

and come out un-harmed, un-insulted and impressed with the effort they put in

(Would I do the same No)

Could you ??

I'm surprised it doesn't state "World Championship of the World, the Whole Intergalactic Universe, and everything Beyond the Whole Frigging Intergalactic Universe too " .

The hype is pushed sooo hard it gets immediately old, but those publishing it are too blind to see their faults as always.

Someone with a thimble full of marketing intelligence and a BB size amount of sailing background should be coordinating the promotion of this event, not someone well known to say anything to anyone for any reason simply to get a reaction. That actually does the event a disservice.

thanks paul. the racing in our div - 9 ft 10's, melges 30, 2 j/125's, cheeetah 30, columbia 30 was a hoot. the melges 30 was really hard to beat, but we had our hands full in the ft 10 class, so really couldn't think about them too much. we started off strong with three bullets but had to scratch to win, with some really good close racing. mer will no doubt be posting a bunch of pics from the rest of the weekend...

No complaints. Great place to sail. Fun weekend indeed.

Recommendation for next year... consider adding a finish mark off the opposite side of the R/C boat so the R/C doesn't have to wait for a start line reset.

No Weta pics?

+1 !!!

In the results, there were 7 Wetas, and long-time trimaran guru Mike Leneman was kicking butts!

Wait, I think I see a Weta in this one, top right...

Where were all the U20's and 570's this year?? I've been out of those loops since mid summer, but I thought both classes had a ton of fun last year. Maybe if you had different starts for OD fleets, more would show. Just brainstormin. I doubt I'll ever get to do it again, since timing is bad with harvest and the wine industry.

can you dry sail a weta ???

and if you do

Good question. Not sure about U-20 (though the one was always dukin' it out with a viper or three), but I'd like to understand from Jerome wtf happened to all the Opens. Great weather, great fleet, great racing...

Then again, scheduling also killed a big Moth fleet at the SA Worlds when the M32s decided to hold Worlds the same weekend (same thing happened to M24 NA's)...

will try to do better next year, look for a sweet highlight reel sometime on Wednesday I think and more pics when Mer wakes up.

Currious as to how the moths worked with the other boats on the course, did they lap em or get burried once engaged with a leadmine?? prestart mixed fleet?? Just currious how they interacted with everyone else out there......

We had one on the one design course and it made it much easier to fire off races. With the elapsed time for everyone on the sport boat side it makes it a little more di

fficult, but possible. The Ed really likes having a overall winner. R/C

And really- if you have to take it that serious, you don't belong at an event like this. It really does boil down to spending time on the water with people who you like to be with. Why else would you bother???

Towed a few boats out to the start ,was made to feel welcome by Clean and always carry a few gallons of gas , to save embarrassment.

Enjoyed the day,

Currious as to how the moths worked with the other boats on the course, did they lap em or get burried once engaged with a leadmine?? prestart mixed fleet?? Just currious how they interacted with everyone else out there......

It was only the Beer Can Worlds on Friday where we were all on the same course. We started last with the 5O's 10 mins after the big sporties. By teh first windward mark we were in amongst them. Up wind and downwind wasn't really a problem as we can usual extend on pretty much any boat. Only nerve wracking bits were the lay line to the windward mark and the short track to the offset. We dont point too well, but are doing 15 knots upwind, so the lay line felt like we were powering down on to the sporties the whole time. Also as the Moth is pretty silent (except when you scream!) no one hears you coming so there always the shock factor when we arrive on the scene. On the off set leg, we hate a broad reach as boats most uncontrolable on that point of sail so I spent each one praying the sporties didn't round up and I didn't pitchpole, either of which would ruin your day!!

Overall really fun regatta,
