Yes, posted recently but I sure like this picture of Sorcery at the end of doing a Duck Dodge on lake Union.

Plus, it's a pic taken byKelly O'Neil.

I own a 72 Porsche 914 that had Micro squirt/ electronic fuel injection from the factory , I have since converted it to carbs for better performance, (and I understand carbs}. As much as I love muscle cars Detroit was way late to the game in the 1970s. Not sure you can blame it all on the unions, after we landed on the moon we seemed to rest on our laurels for the next decade.

IMG_0876.JPG

The Jettronic fuel injection actually worked pretty well and got the car past the emissions requirements.  But putting Weber's on there really helped, as they did with any VW engine.  Still kick myself over not buying a 914-6 a while back for almost nothing.  I had nowhere to keep it.

This may be amusing

I taught "adult learn to sail" for many years on keel boats, in lesson one with a new group, a woman came aboard & within minutes was letting everyone aboard know that she was a feminist, part way through the session, same woman is on the helm &  I referred to her as the "helms person", OMG!!! the flames that came from that womans mouth at me was so over the top, what was the problem ? the phrase "helms person" contains the word 'son' and that is male so it is not right !!!, I asked what about 'woman', same problem. FFS

from that point on, anyone steering was referred to as 'skipper'

Wow! I would love to have a 914-6, they are going for big bucks now days.

The 914 is probably more VW then Porsche. I think that was the badge they used in Europe.

I agree it's quite the conundrum!

I don't want to mess with the space time continuum though, so I'm not going to dare copy and repost both of those pictures in the same post

Laurent Fignon and Greg Lemond.

In the Tour de France 1989, they swapped the yellow jersey several times. The last leg, finishing on the Champs Elysees, is an individual TT. Greg Lemond is about 50 seconds behind Laurent Fignon in the GC. Laurent Fignon has the yellow jersey at the start of this last leg... and lost it to Greg Lemond, who wins the tour with a lead overall of ... 8 seconds...

Laurent Fignon used to sport a pony tail. The legend says that some aerodynamicist made a calculation that without a ponytail and the associated drag, Fignon would have won...

Sure it's not 1986? I was there I think...

RIP

Gerard A. Barbara

  • Assistant Chief
  • Fire Department City of New York
  • New York
  • Age: 53
  • Year of Death: 2001

My husband Jerry was with the FDNY for 31 years. We were married for 30 years. We have two children‚ Caren and Paul. Jerry was a devoted dad‚ my husband and my best friend. On September 11‚ 2001 he was the incident commander of Tower #2. He was leading the rescue efforts for the civilians and instructing the firefighters as they responded to the World Trade Center. But my husband had more to his life than just the fire department. He loved to be with his family. His children were his pride. He was so proud of their achievements. He worked and studied hard to give them a better life.

I went to elementary school with Doug Oelschlager.  I moved away, and we lost contact.  Many years ago, I went to look him and found that he was lost during the 9/11 attack. He was one of those Heros that ran into a burning building when others were running out!

Several years ago, I was able to see his name at the WTC Memororial.

Of all the images from 911, those ones of people jumping & falling were always the most sickening to me.

Burn or jump off a 1000' cliff.

I remember one of two people falling holding hands.

Nightmarish.

Thanks hobs for the info. I visit the eastern shore of lake Superior and there is similar pictograph in a place near and dear to me. I'm guessing I need to go visit this area because native people tend to know a good place to hang.

Where is that? My first thought was Lord Howe island, but I thought they used Catalina's and I didn't think they had a base that nice.
