It had been raining heavily for a couple of days. I told my co-driver about the landslide that had happened many years before, and that it was due to happen again. soon! He woke me up in the middle of Texas to tell me that the landslide occurred and that many people were missing or dead. After reaching Miami, I flew to LAX, as all the flights to Santa Barbara were booked for weeks. I finally got a bus that went from LAX to Bakersfield, across to Santa Maria, and then down to Santa Barbara. Normally a two hour drive, it took us almost nine hours. Oceanside Drive-in had a killer swap meet every weekend.
Willin' 887 #42144 Posted January 22 My cousin once told me there used to be an old log flume along the Stanislaus River in the western Sierras. He and his gf, later wife, used to go up there on hot summer days and float down it on Morey Boogies. Looks like it could have been some serious fun. He also said his son was conceived there. They named the kid Stan.

What part do you think I’m remembering incorrectly? Not sure how your picture helps......that must be from long before I was there. I think that’s Bonita Cove off the bay in the background......the Plunge was/is in the upper part of the parking lot/complex that the Belmont coaster is located in. It was getting old when I was there. Below is an article from exactly the time I was there. From the article: Quote During the day, city lifeguards use the pool to keep in shape and complete their winter testing. Evenings at the plunge find the swimming team (San Diego Swim Association), almost 70 strong, being put through their paces while others in the pool plod along, fighting waves generated by tomorrow’s Olympians. That was before the new lifeguard tower/station was built in south mission. The station then was called Hardy Hall and was off the boardwalk side. Housed the cliff rescue rig as well. I don’t even see the boardwalk in your aerial picture. https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/1977/feb/10/plunge/
