Seeing some FB reports about a fire at Torresen's last night.  Anybody know any details, which building, how bad?  Nothing on M-Live that I can find. Hoping it was nothing serious!

Never mind,  not at Torresen's just a brush fire near them.

I have a good insurance guy and while my boat is laid up for a covered loss I can charter a similar boat. Anyone have a 40ft sprit boat they want to charter for 2 months?  If you are interested in the insurance I have let me know...

my FIL's policy also covers rentals. We kind of laughed at that a couple years ago when his rig got broken by the yard. It was the weekend before Mac and we could not get something trucked in in time.

Working on that as we speak. Down to a couple options. Definitely something in the 40 foot range.

Just checked clipper cup weather to Port Washington. Only need to rig the port jib sheet... possibly light enough to rig port spin sheet for those with a code 0 or mast head genoa.

have a safe trip.

Back in the '80s, at least one year we did a chase from Muskegon to GH.  We ended up 2nd being passed in the last few hundred yards.

I highly recommend doing the same for a fun race.

I might be an old fuck, but when somebody says Marky, I know who they're talking about.  Talk about a cheap date, three beers and he's in love with the floor!

PS  Moody Blue was maybe the coolest name and coolest boat I have ever seen.  N/M one toner for the washed.

Answered my own question. There are 2 melges 24s and the farr 40. The first place melges just lost its kite in front of my house, not sure if it blew up or not but no kite up for them anymore. Both are ahead of the farr, they just have a #3 or 4 jib up

The lead Melges 24 lost their spin halyard about 45 minutes into the 12.5 mile race.  The other one carried all the way to the finish line in just over 54 minutes, the other crossed about a minute and a half later under jib and main.   12.5 miles in 54 minutes in a 24 foot boat.  Not too shabby with nearly a 14 knt average.   Farr 40's only section competition dropped out prior to the start so they took it easy and finished  a in about an hour under JAM only.   A Soto 40 would have killed it in this race :-)  (sorry!)

MYC got hit with a 75 knot gust last night (according to the club anemometer)   Dry sail area is a mess!  Boats flipped and tipped on the north side.  Haven't seen any pictures from the south side but might want to get down to check your boat.

You were right!!   the melgi occupied top  1-3 overall

it was a flat water tight reach in 13-16, freed up just enough after port sheldon to get a FR-0 outta the bag.  hour and a half race, and a beautiful day.   great to see many of you out there!

Bretwalda has (or at least originally had) a retractable sprit pole.

I'm pretty sure its Longbow.  Custom carbon Owen Clark Class 40. Built by a guy named Britt Columbo out east.  Forget the name of his company offhand.

Mac program has the owner listed as FK Day.  Believe he's out of Chicago.

Funny, I took this pic of ARMA at some point this summer as well. Cell phone camera and a few beers makes it not near as cool as the other photo... I think the Anchor Yanker gives it character.

Took a stroll down the beach to take a look at this now that the breeze is down. Apparently the guy thought this was the muskegon chanel (boat is 25 ft north of the mona lake chanel.)  This thing is very stuck. 45ft big fat cruiser.  Keel is still on I believe. High water and huge waves pushed her up here.  Very, very stuck.

how are they gonna deal w this?  dragging it off seems impossible w the keel and rudder fully planted in sand

crane on a barge, seems unlikely.  there’s not a good way to get big cranes or a travel-lift to the beach.    humm.

It would be near impossible to get heavy equipment back there, unless it comes in on a barge.  So it would have to be a calm day on lake MI, which is tough to come by in October/November.   It is also quite shallow there. Have to go out 100 yards to get to 6' deep.  I'll check when I go home today if they are trying anything, it is relatively calm today. Cut it up?

my crystal ball says if they don't do something fast she will end up much like that J/41 'Merrimac' that ended up on Sable Island after the naviguesser used a hurricane plotting chart (missing some atolls and small islands) instead of a NOAA chart and wound up like this:

Nelson Marek designed Morgan 36. Off the beach Thursday and at Torresens on cradle. Busted Rudder and is either the CB model or keel cut-off to get off beach. (the mysterious wood screed on back edge of keel?) 3 TowBoatUS boats pulled her off. Story is, got in too close to beach on way from Chicago to Muskegon, busted tip off rudder, lost steering enough to be washed onto beach. Scroll down at West Michigan TowboatUS site for images.   https://www.facebook.com/greatlakestow/?hc_ref=ARTrxdx_HyfKAjBruEQqSm-Zo7KLKdpTsJOeh2rXNnPgtuPDncQixmr5w2AcdNg9MAk&__tn__=kC-R

Yes it is, and I'm sure she's thinking the same thing.

It is a good looking boat, and I'm pretty sure we're all looking forward to finding out just how quick she is.  It would be fun to make a run to Muskegon on her in the right conditions.   +/- 85nm across.  Just need someone to drive the trailer around.

Update on Mona Lake Boat on the Beach. It was a CB Morgan 36. So they didn't have to cut anything off. They used the Grand Haven jet-drive boat to blast water onto the beach and turn the sand into quicksand and loosen things up while two other boats pulled it off. TowBoat guy said rudder was broken when skipper got too close to Mona Lake Channel.

The Towboat US guy said he might have mistaken Mona Lake Channel for Muskegon Channel....Now that would be dumb. It would take a whole lot of liquor to do that.

There was definitely some navigational confusion. Boat was heading towards the red and green lights of Mona Lake channel. Appears to of been coming in almost perpendicular to the shore at the time. Think it actually got far enough in to of made contact with the steel after it started hitting the bottom. There was a line around the prop that apparently ended up there as the boat was trying to get itself to safety after ending up inside the sandbars

It was a N/M designed Morgan 45. Rudder and steering broke after the grounding. It was night. It was really wavy. Must of been pretty scary for the people on board. Really great guy that got really confused and made a really bad decision.

Muskegon Is my home harbor but with all the shore lights, I have always found it very difficult to come into at night. The new "bright as the sun" lights at the CG station pretty much destroy your night vision after you do make it in so it doesn't get much better in the channel either.  This year it will look different again with the Cobb plant stack down.
