Basically one Commissioner on the MWRD board who voted "no" on April 4 has to come forward to ask that the topic be put on the agenda for the April 18 meeting in order for it to be reconsidered. If it gets on the agenda, then it would be put up to vote a second time around.

Both bidders are working feverishly (we have not heard any noise from the third bidder).

The Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation sent a letter to the Commissioners and ExDir of the MWRD today that discussed the importance of: Safety; The Competition Facility; Training; and the Hypersensitive Nature of Boating with Economic Changes. All of these dynamics are in play if the harbor were to be closed for the year. We asked the MWRD to re-open Wilmette Harbor on-time for 2013. We steered clear of recommending any of the bidders.

What's the poop on Wilmette Harbor?

I have a question for the Graffiti Train/GL36 crew:

Does anybody know anything about the Mumm36 "High Tension"?

I'm going to be in Antigua during race week, and they are incessantly posting on the race forum looking for crew.

Thanks.

Anyone want to fill the Lake Saturday night?

Bueller?

If this rain keeps up, the lake may already be filled... perhaps we just meet at a neighborhood watering hole?

Saw an interesting pic showing where it needs to rain to actually have a difference on Lake Michigan water levels.

Thanks Tom Skilling.

presumably snow that hasn't melted in the areas marked on this map would have the same effect on the lake? UP and N Mich still have a lot of snow from what i hear.

Since Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are actually one body of water we need it to rain on both lakes. At least every other day for the past two weeks it has rained on the GL's. Lake Michigan/Huron went up 3 cm (1.1") in March.

The snow melt is up in the U.P and Canada and goes mostly into Superior which drains into the north channel and then into Lake Huron. Anywhere we can get it the GL's need it. Rain, Snow, Drunken sailors bladders. Remember no beer brewed with GL's water. That means no Miller Lite!

The MWRD Commissioners voted this morning 9-0 to award a new 39-year lease to the Wilmette Harbor Association.

While WHA had the dredging scheduled for now, the dredger had to move to other jobs and won't be back for about 3 weeks, but all of the dominoes are lined up and ready to fall to have the harbor open for 2013.

A lot of people within the sport, within other organizations and even non-sailors took the time to write the MWRD, a lot of people made this happen.

Get out and go sailing Wilmette!

I choose to fill our lake, out ON the lake. I'm out there just about every weekend helping sailors get races done. I'm filling our lake with the love for our sport. MAN up and put something back into our sport besides the piss and moaning...

If some of you chuckle dick knuckle shufflers showed up on a frostbiting morning and filled your asses into some safety boats for a day, that would raise the lake more than your vaginal squirts.

Love and tickles,

BB

P.S. there were two 420s out on Sunday afternoon. Two? Two?? BALLS!! How about a SA Area III Battle Royale. Pair up ya nuts, and come out this Sunday afternoon for bragging rights.

I'd love to see some of you A3 "all stars" out there with us in the frostbite fleet.

By Alexandria Fisher, NBCChicago.com

With Memorial Day weekend underway, Chicago’s violence has spiked as six people were killed and at least 11 others were injured in shootings across the city.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred Sunday when a 42-year-old man was shot in the head and a 44-year-old female was shot in the back on Goose Island on the Near North Side.

The shooting occurred at 2:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of North North Branch Street.

The pair was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where the man, identified as Charles Jones by the Cook County Medical Examiner, was pronounced dead, according to Chicago Police news affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

Jones was the owner of the Factory Chicago, a gentlemen's club on the Far South Side.

A tweet from the Factory Chicago read: "God called his soldier home, R.I.P. Charles Jones."

A cousin of the female victim, Andrew Holmes, said the pair was sideswiped while driving in Jones' 2007 Maserati and was shot while approaching the driver of the other vehicle.

No other details were immediately available on the shooting.

At 2:10 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the armpit in the 12100 block of South Indiana Avenue. He was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.

Earlier in the evening, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in an alley. The shooting occurred at 9:20 p.m. Saturday in an alley between Dorchester and Dante Avenues near 74th Street.

A light-colored sedan reportedly drove passed the alley where the boy and several others were standing and began shooting. The man was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man is believed to have gang ties.

Two other shootings occurred Saturday night including one that hospitalized a 17-year-old man with multiple wounds in both of his legs after he was shot in the 6000 block of North Kenmore Avenue.

Another teen was shot in the 700 block of West 50th Place in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The 19-year-old man was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

Early Saturday, a man was shot and killed in the Hyde Park community, blocks from President Barack Obama’s Kenwood home.

A man buzzed two suspects into his apartment building and left his door open for them enter, according to Chicago Police news affairs Officer Estrada.

The suspects then entered and shot the 29-year-old man in the chest and back at 1:50 a.m. in the 1400 block of East 52nd Street, police said.

Around 11:45 p.m. Friday a 22-year-old man was found fatally shot outside his home in the 1100 block of North Lawndale Avenue. The man was discovered on the sidewalk outside his home with a gunshot wound in the back of his head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The weekend’s first fatality involved a 17-year-old man who was shot in the head two times around 11 p.m. Friday in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The man was found in 400 block of North Central Avenue where he was pronounced dead.

An 18-year-old man was also found wounded in the same shooting and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said.

At least seven others were reported injured in shootings throughout the weekend.

At 2:55 a.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of North Ridgeway Avenue when a 24-year-old man was shot in the face. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition.

Around 1:45 a.m. Saturday three people were injured in a possible drive-by shooting in the 400 block of north Sacramento Avenue, police said.

An 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were both shot in the buttocks. The 21-year-old man was also shot in the thigh. Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

A 21-year-old was also grazed in the arm but refused medical treatment, police said.

Around 7:35 p.m. Friday a 27-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 1100 block of North Spaulding Avenue on the city’s West Side. He was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital where he was listed in good condition.

Less than an hour later a 17-year-old woman was shot in the hip in the 600 block of East 75th Street after male suspects approached the group she was walking in and shot. She was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in “stable” condition, according to police.

Woody,

As tragic as it is, especially with the number of kids that are killing kids, when you look at the per capita, it's not even in the top ten. Doesn't make it any better but overall, the city is a pretty nice and safe place to live most of the time. Just like any major metropolis, there are areas you just do not go.

Cheers,

What's the best place to buy good quality sailing gear in Chicago these days? I used to shop at the store (can't remember former name) on N Elston Ave adjoining the North loft, but I know they changed owners years ago. I need to replace things like my inflatable PFD, convertibles, hat, gloves, etc. West Marine, or are there better places for sailing gear in Chicago?

CYN - Chicago Yachting and Navigation was on North Elston next to the North Loft.

West Marine is OK for basics. Crowley's on 95th street near the sky way is good.

I also should give a shout out to Line Honors. They have helped me with some gear:

Ok, fess up - which one of you guys is chopping off legs?

---

Sun-Times Media Wire

June 6, 2013 (CHICAGO) -- A human leg was found on a Kenwood neighborhood beach Wednesday afternoon on the South Side.

Police were notified at 2:42 p.m. of a human leg on a beach in the 4700 block of South Lake Shore Drive, police said.

Authorities said a person walking along Lake Michigan found the leg on the rocks near the lake, which was severed from the hip down.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Area Central detectives are conducting a "death investigation," police said.

What's the best place to buy good quality sailing gear in Chicago these days?

I’m a little bias; Crowley's is my 1st choice. Linehonors via their website is my 2nd. Lake Geneva isn't too far away, but I've never been up to their brick and mortar location, so I'm not sure about the on hand inventory.

If you want to get deals, Strictly Sail is your best chance to fit and purchase. Also, at larger regattas like our upcoming NOOD regatta @ CYC, you can sometimes get a deal there. But as usual, it’s depending on the old 'supplied and demand' principal.

Hint: Always ask 'what on sale, what are you looking to lower inventory on'. I know, duh! But you'd be surprised how many people don't ask. These retailers want to move old inventory, as much as you like to buy stuff on sale! ASK THE QUESTION.

Regatta and at Strictly Sail, don't wait for the last day of the event thinking the prices will drop, 98% of the time they won't. It's more likely that the item you want, in your size* will sell out, and you guessed it, you lose... Especially on discontinued items, you snooze, you lose.

* If you're a men's XL, snag it up quick because that’s the first size to sell out, almost always.

I agree, ask always what's on sale.

But in my case, sometimes the price is so good that I usually end buying something that I hadn't plan on buying, yet.

XL is the new medium.

How about this weekend?

15knots out of the North tomorrow???

I am invading your thread from West Michigan. Was down for the NOOD this weekend from Muskegon, with my boat and had a great time! My general impressions were as follows:

1. On the water race management was outstanding. We were on Circle A in PHRF 2 and got in 8 races.

2. On shore regatta management left a little to be desired.

3. Was surprised that class flags were not provided to competitors. I guess the assumption is that everyone carries a set of numeral pennants so that when you finally find out what class designation you are in, at registration, you can just grab one out of your kit. Us...we spend Thursday night scrambling to first manufacture a number 5 pennant and then get one from West Marine at the last minute Friday AM. Good lesson for next year.

4. Parties were distinctly average.

5. Sailing, especially Friday, was outstanding.

Cheers. See you all at the Mac!

Circle C was pretty damn good too, I am glad they held out the extra 20 minutes both Saturday and Sunday for the breeze to settle in! Thanks folks!

Even better when you win... Congrats Andy and the entire HoneyBadger team

My name is Maria Skorcz, and I will be a senior at the University of Notre Dame in the fall. I have been a collegiate sailor for the past 3 years. At ND, I crew 420s and compete throughout the Midwest in the MCSA. I also have some small experience sailing on big boats. I am living and working downtown this summer, and I would love to continue to sharpen my sailing skills this summer. Please contact me at mskorcz@nd.edu if you are in need of a collegiate crew for the summer!

One of our own can actually write as well as sail!!!

Cheers,

Big thanks to free agent for being awesome and picking our crew out of the water! you rock!

And Kudo's to the RC for the redress given to FA.

Yes, Free Agent was a ways behind us coming into the mark when that happened. Sounds like they did everything possible to take care of first things first- crew in the cold water. With their redress they corrected over everbody to 1st in that race. Including us.
