Chicago-Mackinac July 16

Recommended Posts

(I looked everywhere and can not find a topic on this so I thought I would start one)

This would be number 19 for me. Let's see if the mighty Vytis can make it happen again.

On another topic, I am looking for a flight off Mac back to Chicago Wednesday morning. Anyone know where I might start my search?

Thanks

CL

We have a top floor suite at the Chippewa that we aren't using this year. Anyone looking for a room to rent? Upstairs from the Pink Pony, a deck with awesome views of the harbor and room for a ton of people. 2 queen size beds, a pullout couch and tons of floor space.

Check in Sunday, check out Wednesday. $1300 OBO.

PM me if interested.

I've been hard at work optimizing the Mac 26X. Ten foot sugar scoop, Farr 40 rig with masthead kites, custom 10 foot hinged centerboard, plus ballast tanks filled with beer. 30 SW indeed, bitches.

I appreciate the sacrifice. I think this'll be the grand finale for my current ride, so good breeze would be a plus!

Best time I ever had on the Farr was VMG running in 30-35 kts all night long. But we can compromise, 29.8 kts.

Good on Paul for getting back into the game - I don't know if he's sailed since selling Devastator, his NM45, in the mid 80's. He was a fun owner to sail for, good guy.

Sounded pretty douchy, didn't mean it that way. Saw Tyler down working on the boat, looking good and fast for transpac, are you flying into sd before the race or meeting the boat in long beach.

Not like you mentioned that the G6 was picking you up.

Grinder and I just bought our Greyhound tickets for SD, and hopefully we can hitch a ride back on a freighter.

Why does it take Chicago Y.C so long to put up the section breaks?

Bayview Y.C already has theirs posted.

Looks like a healthy turbo section

Now I know why tigers eat their young. The old man is back in charge. They'll crush that game quicker than you can say "Bartman".

Meh, tallest midget competition. But at least you get to hang at Wrigley, which is rad.

I bet you buy a Marlins jersey and you get a free bowl of soup.

Some heads will be rolling on the cockpit floor after our NOOD performance. Interesting how Defiance owes the 52's time in every rating except Chicago PHRF.

+1

On another note, where are the big out of town programs this year? Is it related to this being a Transpac, Trans-Atlantic, Fastnet Year???

Only boat registered for the Trans-Atlantic that I've seen do the Mac is Beau Geste. In Newport yesterday and the lineup of boats getting ready at Newport Shipyard was impressive.

NOR says you need 8 for your own class. Unfortunately, the GL70s only have 7 this year. A few other classes were close to the 8 (Farr 40, J111, J120, Farr 395).

Every year, out-of-towners come on this thread and ask about a good place to eat. Felt obligated to mention that Gene and Georgetti, a proper Chicago steakhouse ("where you're likely to see mobsters and politicians...often at the same table") is celebrating their 70th anniversary and offering an incredible prix fix menu including 2 alcoholic drinks for $15.25. Only on the 14th, 15th, and 16th.

Just a note I thought I'd pass along. Bulk up on red meat before the race, avoid using the head.

Wassa matta?

Can't they enter a couple "ghost boats" and get a section like people (who shall remain nameless) do in the NOODs? :o

Seriously though it our first MAC and we are hoping for steady breeze and a very long Broad REACH!

Past results seem to be missing too. Probably not the best timing to be rolling out a new website just prior to the race and then have to debug it.

First time Mac. Looking for top 3 stops en route back to Chicago and why. We draw just under 7'.

personal preference but I would say Beaver Island, hang out at the Shamrock and lots of interesting local history in addition to being a cool place.

Leland, new docks, fishing heritage very visible, sort of a like a walk back in time in addition to a good bar/restaurant (bluebird).

I like Jacobsens in Frankfort but next stop down I would probably put at Ludington, two good municipal marinas (old and new-new having a nice pool out front in additional to Jamesport a good local micro brewery close by, just my two cents. Are you one of the "level 35's" in section 6? If so will be fun racing against you.

We're not a level 35 but we are in Section 6. I understand the level 35 group has some excellent sailors in it.
