      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

good, thats where he belongs. it will be years, if ever, before he makes a start in the NFL, and probably not at QB.

to paraphrase an NFL analyst i was watching:

tebow is a big athletic guy who lacks decision making skills and accuracy

Tebow is a gifted athlete who polarizes fans and has a legion of people who expect more out of a rookie than one can usually provide.

His demotion has more to do with the problems of the Denver organization than with him. His rookie stats last year were good, and not indicative of someone who lacks decision making and accuracy. His demotion is a sign -- in my opinion -- that they intend to keep him around long enough.to raise his value for a trade, give his next team the feeling that he was brought up the right way, almost as if this will be his real rookie season, and last year was an aberration that needs to be buried, which it sort of was.

But don't think that someone leaves a very expensive car in the mud before they're ready to sell it. Tebow is too valuable for that.

I could care less of course, because the NFL's main purpose in my view is to keep most of the bandwagoneers away from the NHL.

hes a gifted athlete but being a gifted athlete does not make you a gifted qb. stats dont tell the whole picture. he makes rash decisions that are not indicative of a "good" qb. he has a strong arm, but so did jamarcus russell. he has a history of bad mechanics. he will not succeed as a qb in this league.

however, ryan mallet exhibited good reads on his progressions, well timed accurate throws, and an ability to sense pressure in the pocket. he showed his rookie side when he decided to throw off balance to the opposite side of the field.

He has 7th round pick skills at QB. If any other team trades for him it will be either a 7th round pick they give up, or a bag of balls and a replacement wheel for the jugs machine.

Trust me Celph, a quarter of the coaches in the league would sell their grandmother into slavery to contract Tebow. There are few short yardage specialists of his caliber in the game.

This. It's no surprise he got demoted, he can't read gaps at the NFL level. He was a star in the SEC, but moving up the majors is a whole different game. The only difference between him and Cameron is that the Panthers need a young gun QB, Denver doesn't. If the Panthers picked up Tebow, he's be QB1 without hesitation.

Very imaginative, except this bears little correspondence to his last season stats.

Yeah, I get that lots of folks hate him, but if he was an unknown out of Utah State with his combine results and stats he would be considered a promising hopeful instead of an overrated has-been.

And as for the statement about him not being able to read formations, that comes with experience, it's rarely innate. I think DDE is right about the Panthers, that would be a much better fit for him.

More to it than that.

I only got to see that one game last year, but the O-line was fired up and playing great, and hanging around him on the sidelines. They'll play for this Lil' Abner in cleats.

If he's able to learn the pro game, I think he will do well enough.

Mike,

Tebow started against Oakland, Houston, and San Diego. Alex, Mike will take the 2010 NFL Season for $100, which of those three teams made the playoffs? None of them Alex, rephrase, what is none of them.

Meaningless stats from playing in meaningless games against meaningless opponents. He has not proven anything to me yet (pretty much par for the course for most rookie qbs).

Yeah, they were pretty weak, and Tebow didn't seem to show a lot of instinct, but he did handle NFL defenses fairly well. He's not the joke he's being made into on this thread.

Yes, he's hatable, I acknowledge that.

He is not a QB in the NFL. I thought he had a chance, but I don't think so any more. If he is willing to be a fullback or a tight end, I think he could have a career. But no team is willing to dress him as the #2 QB in case the starter gets hurt, or do they dress him and don't designate him as a QB, and take a spot from another position and weaken their special teams by taking up a roster spot on a guy who is only going in for short yardage?

He'll probably be fine. Very few can waltz into the NFL and excel from day 1. Its hard not to root against him cuz the lizard is soooooooooooooo fixated on him. But really - he's got talent and will probably adjust.

Honestly, how many big name college qb's have made it recently? Matt ryan is the only one who comes to mind. Vince young, alex smith, colt mccoy, sam bradford, no one is doing significantly. If tebow sits on the bench and learns for 3-4 years than maybe he could play at the pro level. However, for a physically talented guy like him I think his time would be better served as a back or a te, maybe even a mike lb

When Matt Stafford is healthy he is great. Unfortunately healthy is not something he has been very often.

Very few college qbs excel quickly in the nfl, it takes most several years to learn the nfl game and reads. Tebow, as a college spread qb is even more challenged. Time will tell whether he can develop into a quality nfl qb, but he is not ready yet. And no amount of hype and teblowing will change that.

"More challenged"? wth? He sets club records for longest touchdown run for a Broncos qb, and a 100.5 pass rating and this is "more challenged"?

Okay, maybe he will or won't have an NFL career, but his rookie stats don't exactly indicate that he's Ryan Leaf either.

When I read opinions that indicate he's this challenged, overrated guy, it ultimately just looks like the flip side of the same Tebow love-fest that I find so annoying. He's was a decent, but not outstanding rookie qb, his stats can't be interpreted any other way.

People, the "Hate Tebow" thing isn't really so much about Tebow, it' s that you all hate the Gaytor for his rooftop crowing about the guy. If Gaytor had never started this up, it would have never morphed. Oh and anyone remember Todd Marinovitch. Born to be an NFL QB. Flamed out mostly living the OC lifestyle.

Live here, Teblow was never going to start for Fox and will never start for the Donkeys unless Orton gets traded and or hurt, Fox gets canned and Quinn looses both arms in a freak cowboy shooting accident. The media here have been over him for a while actually laughing at all the national attention he was getting even though they knew before camp that it was over. They trotted him out to sell Unis and they have now "broken even" financially on him so therefore he gets dumped to 3rd string. I would not be surprised if he is brought out at the end as trade bait like last year, but there is no way he is gonna start for this team in the next couple of years.

Gee Sol, I never would have been able to figure that out without your help. Thanks!

Maybe I should run a poll for those of us who are truly bored - where in the world is Gator?

1) Flicked

2) Mom and Dad shut off his internet access down in the basement.

3) Another adventure with Gator, his Vespa, and the po-pos. No internet access there!

Oh snap. It looks like 4th string is possible

Having operated almost exclusively out of the shotgun in college, he still lacks smoothness when taking snaps directly from center: Whereas the Broncos’ other three quarterbacks anticipate the snap and are already into their drop upon receiving it, Tebow typically is locked in place, meaning he’s already behind in his timing upon the beginning of a play.

As one highly knowledgeable member of the organization told me Monday, “If everything was totally equal, and this were a competition based only on performance at this camp, Tebow would probably be the fourth-string guy. Kyle [Orton] is far and away the best, and Tebow’s way behind [brady] Quinn, too. And I’m telling you, Adam Weber is flat-out better right now.”

Ouch.

What has the kid actually done to attract all the negativity?

He is the reptile's man crush. Not Tebow's fault, we would not ban the tight jeans thread if HWSNBN resurfaced and said he liked it.

His university used him for current value instead of actually training him for his chosen profession. Happens at lots of schools, but it did get him a job and bought him a chance to learn while being well paid.

He is being heavily marketed by the team and the league. Duh, if the kid can get people to buy shit, go for it. Does anyone think Hendrick signed Dale Jr. because of his driving skills?

If he sits on the roster at third, works hard and learns the pro game, in a couple of years he might be a decent QB. Until he personally demonstrates arrogance or entitlement, he should be allowed a fair shake. Just don't trade him to the Lions.

Tebow reminds me a lot of Cindy Crosby. The NHL and hockey press (especially Canadian press) just gushed and drooled all over the kid. I don't think he or Tebow asked for all the hype and have been used by the leagues and the teams they play(ed) for to generate cash, but both have made some statements that didn't help their cause.

My disdain isn't really with Tebow, he is a great and selfless character kid that has a shot to make it in the NFL in the future if he works hard. It is with all of the Tebowbaggers that already have him in the Hall of Fame, or are just besides themselves that he is..gasp...not starting. The fact that a Hall of Fame QB now executive and experienced NFL coach say he is not ready or deserving doesn't seem to matter in the slightest, it is all a conspiracy to keep Tebow down. He has been given a fair shake in training camp, he hasn't earned the starting job. When he outplays the other two qbs, there is no doubt in my mind he will start.

Unproven? Lighting up Juniors in Canada is normally a gateway to NHL success...not guaranteed but there's a a pretty good correlation. By definition, all NHL rookies are unproven; Crosby is a top 3 player like it or not.

Really?. If that were true, the Toronto Maple Leafs would be a decent team, and a bunch of mediocre players would be all stars. All NHL rookies ARE unproven, but very few get fawned over like the second coming of JFC himself. Crosby has established himself by playing well over time. When he came into the league, he had not.

sheesh Barley. made the NHL team as an 18 year old, scored 102 points in his rookie season, won the points trophy in his second, was named captain in his second or third season, won a stanley cup and scored the gold medal goal, won the most goals race and would have won both scoring titles last year but for the concussion. yes both players came to the bigs with a lot of hype but crosby went out and immediately showed that most of what was said about wasn't hype but fact. yes, the canadian sports media drops to their knees for crosby and that's unseemly but he is in fact an elite pro hockey player and has been since his rookie year.

Funny thing is that the Dummy Donkey fans booed Quin off the field and cheered wildly whenever Teblow scratched his ass. The Teabowbaggers make for good theater. Maybe they will shoot Orton and Quinn in the parking lot like so we can be like the rest of the AFC west......... Probably the only way he would start at this point........

Big difference Sidney is one of the top 3 players in all of hockey, Tebow is one of the top 3 QBs on his team, maybe.

That would be up for debate. He certainly was not when he entered the league, which was my point. He was a green kid with a lot of talent, but completely unproven.

Unproven? Lighting up Juniors in Canada is normally a gateway to NHL success...not guaranteed but there's a a pretty good correlation. By definition, all NHL rookies are unproven; Crosby is a top 3 player like it or not.

sheesh Barley. made the NHL team as an 18 year old, scored 102 points in his rookie season, won the points trophy in his second, was named captain in his second or third season, won a stanley cup and scored the gold medal goal, won the most goals race and would have won both scoring titles last year but for the concussion. yes both players came to the bigs with a lot of hype but crosby went out and immediately showed that most of what was said about wasn't hype but fact. yes, the canadian sports media drops to their knees for crosby and that's unseemly but he is in fact an elite pro hockey player and has been since his rookie year.

Let's try this one last time. My point is not whether Crosby is the best, worst. superhuman, or god like to the sport of hockey. Yes, Crosby has proven himself as an elite player. You all happy now? ;)

Put that aside for a moment. My point is that Crosby and Tebow garnered the same level of attention coming into the league. Tebow, (remember Tebow?) on the other hand has not proven anything. The media hype and fan fanaticism are misplaced.

I hope you're joking. I wouldn't place Crosby up with Gretzky and Lemieux, or even near Mark Messier at that.

Now , not even third string?

"I knew Tim Tebow was versatile and willing to do anything to help his team win, but I can't recall the last time a primary quarterback ended up legitimately lining up at receiver - and not for just a trick play. It was a bizarre spectacle, and it was the result of injury, but it also makes it pretty clear that this is probably the closest Tebow will come to seeing meaningful snaps."

Elway and Fox are really screwing the pooch. Orton is a disaster and the Donkeys are going nowhere. Tebow has outplayed every HOF QB is his three starts but Elway is scared to start him lest Tebow elcipses his storied career with the Bronco's. Fox is a satanist are for obvious reasons won't start Tebow.

Troubling :(

Gaytor,

I really really never thought I would ever defend anything the fricking Donkeys have ever done, but (god help me as I am going to actually say this) This is the best decision they have ever made. Teblow Sux, Can't throw the ball and really has no business being on the field at the QB position at this time. The guy is actually taking it well, but the damn teblobaggers keep showing their ignorance by yelling for him. Before you start slinging shit I have 2 sets of donkey tix and have actually seen him play. Stop It.....

Tebow aside (i think he had some serious talent) but Tebow aside, the Donkeys played like crap this past weekend ... about as lackluster as a pro team can get, barely pulled it off too.

I will be so glad for NHL season to start so I can more fully ignore the mules.

This season is going to be a huge mystery. They traded away three of my favorite guys (Stewart Andy and Shattenkirk) as far as I can tell in large part to just fix a busted defense that Footer couldn't hold down.

I have no idea of they're going to need help or not, I barely have an idea of what kind of team they are this time. They seem to have two solid lines. Beyond that?

The only real consolation I have is that this year will finally put an end to the "reload" myth of the Wings, and that the Senators have a good shot along with the new Jets.

Any way you get the point... not everyone is like the Johnny guy...you know #19 that played for the Baltimore Colts when phones had dial on them. Tebow may mature, or go onto to be the sportscaster for the Okalackaknookie High School sports programs...maybe even coach the Frosh - Soph Football Team!

Sorry Woofer. You come out with this every year,. and every year you are wrong. The Wings retired four old players at the end of their careers, and they are deep enough that there is intense competition for a couple roster spots. They have the longest playoff streak in pro sports for a reason. Solid scouting, depth that allows quality development, and a front office that is second to none. They will be an elite team again this year, and will make the playoffs and hopefully go deeper than they have the last couple years.

Mike,

Last year was the off year for the Wings.

As we speak, all 4 of the Detroit teams are in First place. The last time I could say that it was February 4 years ago.

I'm still wondering how Gator felt about watching T-Blow used for a trick play while a 2nd round pick rookie out of TCU started and threw for 300+ in his second game as a pro starter. Sort of like our reptile friend was prognosticating about T-Blow.

At least the emergence of Andre Caldwell as a powerful presence on the field gave him something to use his wanking towel for.

I didn't watch the game since I was sailing home, but followed the scores and have of course studied the recaps, since my loved (not beloved...Mike Brown has nothing but scorn for his team's fans) are once again showing signs of life. Like a corpse with a flush of lividity left, gasping with a false death rattle, they've once again made gestures that they might not lose 14 games this year.

Bengals couldn't close the deal on 3rd down. Defense gave up too many big plays in what was a very winnable game for them.

With news breaking that Peyton Manning will most likely miss the entire season, something most of us thought but refused to believe, the Colts must seek other options at quarterback.

Kerry Collins suffered a possible concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, and backup Curtis Painter filled in admirably for him, but the team had no depth beyond that.

Punter Pat McAfee was next on the depth chart if Painter went down, and it certainly seemed like the Steelers were trying to make that happen with all the blitzes that they sent against Painter.

I personally believe the best option for the Colts would be to tank the season and sign an average-Joe journeyman off the street for depth, but Indianapolis fans aren't accustomed to losing.

Here are five quarterbacks who are proven winners that have led teams on playoff runs before, and who are available for the Colts to turn around their quickly fading season.

Sign anyone but a quarterback who is going to win you games.

I heard they're about to trade for Tebow and start him..

If so, BG will probably have his Denver Tebow jammies, Snuggie, sleeping bag, night light, and mobile on eBay soon. But, what will Indy do when Peyton returns? You don't think he'll ride the pine behind "the tear-shedder", do you?

How was Manning's second season compared to Timmy's? Did he ride the pine as a third string only used on one trick play as a WR instead of a QB?

Soon, BG will be back comparing stats from the first 3 starts of several HOF quarterbacks with Timmy. He'll claim Tebow blew each out of the water in that time frame.

Since? Not so much.

This has already been addressed.

Despite the fact that Manning threw 28 INT his frosh year management allowed him to start in his secong year (in which he threw a mediocre 15 Ints).

In the case of Tebow - Elway is a afraid to start him because Tebow will likely eclipse his records as a bronco and the coach (fox) is a satanist who hates Christians).

There no other explanation if you look objectively at Tebows performance in the last 3 games of last season vs Ortons last trhee games

Well I'll be fucked, I believe he has finally nailed us with an irrefutable argument.....a little searching brings credence to Gaytor's claims....

"The devil is thus like the fox, With his evil tricks and treachery

And men, like the fox's name, are deserving of shame

For whoever says good to another, and thinks evil things in his mind

Is a fox and a fiend indeed… In the same way Herod was a fox

And thought how he would kill him." (Pliny)

Just want to make sure this is archived so you can't pull your typical BS and edit and then play(?) dumb.

Each year Tebow fails to live up to your hype, you will continue to rant that his stats for a partial rookie season place him far above QBs who actually start, year after year, and put up big games. Timmy might get invited to Canton for a Hall of Fame induction, but it will be as a guest to see someone else get the honor.

Well played, sir. Very well played. Of course with Bull Gator's UF education it would be difficult to imagine that he has ever seen Pliny's name before today, let alone read any of the man's works.

Pliny (the elder), by the way, died a sailor. He was rescuing a friend from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius when his cutter got caught on a lee shore and could not claw his way off the shore. He was overcome by the fumes from the volcano. During the course of the rescue some one mentioned to him that it might not be such a good idea, to which he responded with the now famous quote "Fortune favors the brave". Apparently he had a bit of a blind spot when it came to fortune.

I'll bet even Tebow would tell you that position is utterly ridiculous.

Only other explanation is that Elway has really poor judgement. Of course given his business acumen that goes with out saying.............

That's like suggesting that Herpes adds something to your sex life. Technically correct, but not necessarily desirable.

Or, perhaps Elway (and all other sentient life) realizes that Tebow may garner jersey and ticket sales, but is not an NFL caliber quarterback.

When Christ came into the world he said he would believe in him

And thought how he would kill him." (Pliny)

MORE HERE :o

No, no, no, no.

If you happen to have the opportunity to see any of the Broncos during the week getting coaching, and you can read lips you would know Fox is very much a Christian. Why else would he be saying to Timmy; "Jesus Christ boy, it's like we haven't be going through this every day. For God's sake drop back from the center and throw like an NFL QB."

No doesn't make any sense given his very good performance in his three starts and the fact that manning threw 28 pics in his first year which is not NFL caliber by most reasonable standards.

Obviously Manning showed lots of potential for improvement (realized and proven), the fact that he was drafted #1 overall says something about the level of talent he had to throw to and a lot of those picks may not have been his fault.

2010 Summary

Tebow managed win one game by 1 point against a bad team and had losses against two mediocre ones.

There were 51 quarterbacks in 2010 with 2 or more starts, Tebow's completion percentage was T-49.

Neither the guy he tied nor the one he beat has thrown a pass yet this year either.

Perhaps the ability to throw a ball that gets caught is important?

Hmm

Interesting point but Tebow was a also a first round draft pick and started for a less than mediocre team with shitty recievers. He also won against the teams Orton lost to while outplaying Orton.

So nice try but no cigar

I thought you were comparing him to Manning and Elway.

I did point out how shitty manning was (BTW he was 0-4 vs the Gators) with 28 INT's in his first year. Elway also sucked ass 7TD's 14INT's and 55% passer rating in only 11 games

I trust you know the difference between first overall, and twenty fifth over all right? You also know that to get the first overall pick you have to have a pretty bad team. I'm pretty sure Manning would have liked the opportunity to play for a less than mediocre team with shitty recievers. Would have been better than what he had. He did win 3 games in his first season, how many did Timmy win?

1 out of 3 - better ratio than Manning plus his stats were WAY better.

Wierd

PS Tebow was the Bronco's 2ND first round pick

Keep trying.............

Broncos ranked a dismal 25th in NFL

No surprise really that Broncos head coach John Fox continues to stand behind Kyle Orton as his starting quarterback. Fox is a veteran-loving coach, and he maintains that Orton still gives his team its best shot to win. And there's really only one flaw in that theory: The Broncos don't win with Orton, who is 4-12 in his last 16 starts in Denver. Yes, both losses for the Broncos this season were by three points. But as I've pointed out once already this season, Orton is just good enough to get you beat.Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/don_banks/09/28/week.3/index.html#ixzz1ZGtMv4lY

So then the 2nd stringer should be starting in his place soon. Oh wait that would be Brady Quinn.

If Quinn moves up to 1st string, would that make Timmy 2nd or 3rd string?

According to actual football players, Tebow has been ranked behind Weber.
