      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

Hard to bet on Loki b/c of her inferred position for quite a few hours.

The Ker is not looking hot, the S38's are nipping at AFR's heals. I know it's only one boat and one team but she should be farther down the course then that.

Ichi Bum was kind of doggy in the first half of the race but is looking better.

I know this may ruffle some feathers but I'm less than impressed with the Asian TP's performance. Strewth has been at the back of the pack most of the way down, choosing to go far East of the rumline didn’t seem to help. And Ffreefire 52 was even farther back inshore racing among IRC 2 before she dropped out.

Asking for assistance isn't an offence under Rule 41 - "receiving" assistance is. If the chopper answered definitively, AND that information was deemed to be of material assistance by the jury I'd suspect they might have a problem. If the radio interchange happened on HF they could argue perhaps that it was freely available to all boats, but maybe not if it was on VHF. If the chopper didn't answer they're possibly in the clear.

Oops,

Just did some more calcs - for IRC, ignore the CYC interpolated method....Loki (with DTG of 56 nm @ 2000 local time) should finish around 0400 @ 7 knots incl current for elapsed of 63 hours and corrected of ~ 96 hours.

This should be difficult to beat.....because Sid would then have to average faster then Loki...around 8.3 knots...

«But the Cruising Yacht Club has alleged Investec LOYAL asked the crew of an ABC helicopter to tell them what sail Wild Oats XI was using when the yachts were just off Merimbula on NSW's south coast.

Commodore Gary Linacre told a press conference the conversation was recorded and sent out and heard by others.

Investec LOYAL skipper Anthony Bell will face an international jury tomorrow morning and the yacht could be disqualified or face a time penalty.»

You bring up a good point, I know the first generation TP's are vastly different then 3rd, 5th and so on generation of boats. Looking at they're TCC the boats don't appear on rating to be much slower than the five other 52's.

IRC TCC

Ffreefire 1.342

Ragamuffin 1.351

Cougar II 1.358

Calm 1.360

Scarlet Runner 1.363

protest or no protest, there are 2 Kiwi.s with smiles on their faces! Charles St Clair Brown and Ben Buckley who built and campaigned Maximus as she was named originally. Cheers you 2. Now, if the scuttlebut is correct about the basis for the protest, is'nt race tracker outside assistance for all! not to mention wind, tide, water temperature, tide tech etc. Also ABC news could be monitored by any boat with an internet connection, under the original intent of the outside assistance rule that also sounds like it would qualify! Anyway thats my 2 cents worth. Whatever the outcome they were still 3 minutes late and everyone knows it.

It would be just so good if Karl Stefanovich was on the VHF to the chopper and asked the question. Evidence, um neither the guy who asked the question, not the guy who answered it, knew what the question meant. So, how could it be assistance ? Is there a rule about requesting outside hindrance?

Thanks! But, that case makes it clear that it was the receiving of info that was the breach, not the asking. What is interesting there however is the finding that what happens on a publicly available radio channel was not coveted by the "info available to all yachts' exemption. Could hurt Loyal if that's the case.

yeah - i mean surely the breach will be asking for information won't it ?

To be fair to the Asian TPs, they get pwned against a lot of boats on the Asia circuit too! There is comparatively fuck all S2H experience on either and I would be surprised if either of them had any particular eyes on the podium. I say kudos to both for sending the boats that far south (wonder if both will be put up for sale down there though) and adding a bit of extra colour to the international feel of the 88-strong fleet.

VHF?

So anyone within line of sight could hear?

Rich pricks humor, having a lend of each other while they went past as to why the oats was slow at the time?

Bob and WOW XI always win, just because a boat beats them across the line is nothing

The committee at the CYCA are owned

Bob always wins, that's why these tools sail stink-boats and won't let Multi-hulls race against them..

It's all about cash..

Well done WOW XI another sporting victory you and your bogan swearing crew can be proud of

Another sporting triumph for AUS

OH dear, you have issues ......

Edited - you must be a Kiwi ....

Have you compared vintage of the HK TPs versus the others? Ffreefire was the first TP built and Strewth (ex-Trader) was not that long after.

I was also surprised that Ichi Ban was so far back.

Not true at all Terror. Strewth had 100+ Syd/Hobs between their crew...and FreeFire only 2.

EDIT: Strewth - 139 SYD/HOBs. That's a fuck load of experience.

Was watching the start to this race on TV with my kids - language used and attitude shown by the skipper of WO did leave a fair bit to be desired.

Was the loss at the finish a bit of this coming around?

In the PR stakes I like what Loyal is doing - from the celebs on board to the charity it is raising funds for - hope the protest does not go against them.

finally disappointed in channel 7 this year - fairly pathetic coverage...

The description in the protest form does not include any breech of the rule. So protest rejected due to incorrect form?

Zoiks- I thought I read that FF was 2 (BooBoo being one of them) and Strewth was 4. I sit corrected. They did get pwned a lot on the circuit though, when asked to describe it one of the key members of the crew gave one word 'dog'........

Certainly gonna put off any other Maxi's of other OS competitors having a go, when the committee is owned and licking Bobs ass

"Soliciting information" for the whole fleet to hear? Does any crew of any boat have Smartphones with access to SA with the reports on here from Anarchists on cliffs as the boats went up the Derwent?????? Of course they did? FFS

Connecting to the internet would be the same case as soliciting

As said the CYCA is owned by BOB and fuck all to do with sport or sportsmanship

The swearing bogans on WOW XI were handed their asses on a plate and are now whining to their CYCA mates

Get real.

It's a racing yacht. There's tons of foul language.

Microphones just make for "real reality TV".

Get the f**k over it. Good for your kids to learn a little colour anyway newb.

I've watched with interest this race, closely at the start as some will know. I'll wait with interest for the outcome of the protest on the Line Honours winner.

In the meantime, who's going to win the race on time?

Been sailing since I was four and don't need to resort to foul language to put you down - happy to take you on on the water anytime

Have crewed on boats with and without foul language, and with and without a foul attitude

In my experience it is the latter that generally get the results, and I for one have come to prefer them

That's very surprising. This is a race committee protest ostensibly drafted by an expert yet it mistakenly assesses soliciting info as a breach of 41, and it does not state that any response was given to Loyal and by what means the communication ocurred, so it can't be established that any assistance was given - key facts are missing from the protest form. It will all need to

come out in a hearing.
