      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

So Syd's collection up on the hard at SCM now has an IMS 50, a TP52, an Elliott 100, a Dubious 90...

Did Genuine Risk ever make it to Sydney? And what it is beneath the several metres of mast that appears next to the footpath on the northern side of the ANZAC bridge at Sydney City Marine?

I was driving, looked over and couldn't believe I was seeing spreaders and top of a mast that high up! I suspect it is Loyal?

So his first win was in 1990 when Rothmans got disqualified, funny I seem to remember him standing at the back when we got Line honours (& third on IOR) in 1988!

GR is at SydCM. It is owned by Geoff Hill from Hong Kong. Syd brought a share of it I believe. It was sailed down after the China Sea race. They were going to do S2H on it, but I think that idea has been canned and Loyal was chartered. Rumor has it Syd and Geoff are not getting on to well and GR is in pieces at SydCM awaiting updating.

Yes, sharing a boat/budget with Syd would not be everyone's cup of tea.

Minor hi-jack

What happened to Ludde's maxi boat that was in Singapore for a while?

Still here Mad...still not racing...still charging wedding couples for taking pix on deck.

Singapore sailing federation had absolutely no idea how much it costs to campaign a yacht of that size when they committed to it. I remember the big press release/media coverage, "And they have a $100k budget for campaigning the yacht in the Asian Circuit." Uh...ya. That'll get you through the first regatta...not the repairs or the delivery home though.

Awesome that they (SSF) went for it, of course...but why oh why didn't they just ask one of us about running costs?!

Genuine Risk rebadged I think.

So Syd owns both? Loyal would be quicker wouldn't she? Can someone spell it out for me.

Transom on rags 90 looks different to genuine risk but your most probably right. Still got to wonder what he is doing with GR if he has loyal.

He purchased GR and it is in China being modded, hence the back end not looking the same.

GR is now Ragamuffin 90. She is being modified in Sydney and then is heading to Asia.

Impressive if he is keeping both maxi's!

If I were Sid's age with Sid's bank account then I'd be having a couple of Maxi's and scooting around the place doing regattas. If its going to stay in Asia and do some campaigning for the medium to long term then it's probably ultimately a cheaper excersise than shipping one boat around the place, 100ft of cargo vessel ain't cheap!

Yeah good on him for splashing some cash. Maybe Matt Allen and Syd got together for the transpacific race! Shipping one Maxi around would still be cheaper than keeping two ready to race. Maybe the 100 will go when GR is finished.

Facebook says Deliv. to HK with first stop being Port Moresby.

How long has it been back in the water? Sydney to Moresby is a solid shakedown!

Sounds like a genuine risk!

Well done, Sir.

She seems to heading straight back down her ground track so maybe this wasn't supposed to be the moresby run

I was wondering what the breeze was? AIS showing 6-9 most of the time I looked. I don't think you can make any assumptions about speed until she is a couple of races in.

flew down from the sunny coast yesterday and it looked like there was enough out wide to be moving quicker than that - AIS numbers looked like GR might v been motoring??

who knows - it's all guesswork from me

She's just turned south again. Hope it's temporary, there's not too many options on that part of the coast for a maxi with her keel. She's inbetween Brunswick heads and the GC.

Syd now owns or has a share in Genuine Risk but changed the name to Ragamuffin 90?

I realise that Anthony Bell sold Loyal but where is it now and whats it now called?

Anthony Bell now owns Speedboat/rambler? currently under mods in NZ

Fairly close. Yes GR is now R90. Syd had a two year lease deal on Loyal, but after S2H bough the whole shebang. Bell denying involvement in Spambler100, despite Southern Spars releasing a press release to the contrary, but the other half of the ownership puzzle hasn't been sold, guesses include Packer.

yeah OK - looks like I'm keeping up so far....

Lachlan Murdoch would be a better guess i reckon - I don't think Packer is interested in ocean racing

I'm starting to think Langmen and Belll on the speed rambler thing.

And is the 90 leased or co owned with Geoff Hill maybe?

I doubt Sean and Bell. Sean is much more interested in Team Australia and showing how slow the monoslugs really are !!

Rags 100 is in Sydney now.

I think he still wants his name on the L/H trophy. Remember he said he had bought a boat in europe for parts for his project that would be on the start line for the 2014 Hobart.

He is saying that he will start (perhaps with Vodaphone as well) 2 hours behind the S2H fleet.

The project he was talking about is a long way from fruition and the particular spares he was interested in were the two spare canting masts. If Southern are building a new mast then that doesn't add up.

I am not sure that Bell and Sean parted well.

Yeah Vodafone is going too.

Sean said last year he had spent a million already and needed another million to finish it and that he hoped to be on the startline for 2013 but thought 2014 was more realistic, Pretty sure he said he purchased a wrecked boat too. Banque Pop wasn't wrecked.

Maybe Southern are building a canting rig for Speed Rambler and Sean and Anthony are going to dress in red and green and paint the boat the same colours straight down the middle so they get a wheel each???? Maybe Sean he has a secret weapon with Twin or Triple canting ORMA 60 Rigs hanging off his canting deck monomaran?

Ok now back to GR

Can mach2 a 60ft performance cruising cat beat the two 90 ft canters?

G'day Tuck. My guess is no way. This is based on my own experience when a lot of "smart money" said a stripped out and well sailed Schionning 50 would cane us on Helsal 11 (66' mono for those who don't know) in a Darwin Ambon race (downwind race). In one of the lightest races on record, we flogged the cat by 17 hours. Had it blown more, we would have beaten them by more.

Rags 90 for line honours.

That would totally depend on wind angle and strength but chances are......not.

Syd losing his marbles. GR has been put out to pasture, why would you bother.?

to win the 2013 HK Vietnam race of course, and set the record, add that to the South China Sea race

115 nm ahead of the other Supermaxi

Syd has vision, not lost marbles

Any bets on him being in a "relationship" with VD? Seems his checkbook opened around the time she apeared on the scene. NTTAWWT, if she has helped him take on a new perspective and live large in his latter years good on her!

Seriously? Duds has been sailing with Syd for a while now. Longer than his re-found love for really BIG boats.

I thought his checkbook opened again about the time Witty appeared back on the scene. So maybe Syd just wants to enjoy it, cause he can't take it with him.

Apparently Syd found the last really hard downhill Southport a tonne of fun, so I think it's just a case of "Fast is fun. How much is fast? Offer the pricks 70% and negotiate from there."
