      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

Nope.

They gave me my license back week later. Do yo know how fucking rarely that happens? Less than.one percent of the time. He was a bad cop and he got kicked off the force.

Heard this on the news earlier today, and thought it was sad and unfortunate. Listened to an interview with him recently and was struck by his ability to forgive, move ahead and continue to fight his demons. Couldn`t help but think that if I had had the kind of life he experienced I would have surrendered to cynicism and hoplessness long ago.

I hope his spirit is at peace.

Don't kid yourself, he got beat about as bad as any given state prisoner gets beaten across America about every five minutes around here. He just was very lucky that someone had a camera rolling at the time and eventually he walked away with a three million dollar payday, courtesy of us tax payers. Then, 'til the very end, he still couldn't get his shit together, even with all that cashola in his pocket.

Talk about hitting the f'ng lotto and then still ending up dying an idiot with a rap sheet a mile long? Trust me, this guy was no hero....just the piñata de jerk.....

I didn`t call him a hero. I think he was a very troubled man who was dealt a bad hand from the begining, but was sincere and genuine in his efforts. I also would rather my modest bank balance over his experience any day. Money isn`t a miracle band aid that undoes decades of hurt. I didn`t walk in his shoes and I can never know exactly what it was like to live his life, so I do my best to avoid passing judgment because I find it as unappealing in myself as I find it in others.

He was kinda a sad bum. Money probably killed him. Didn't deserve that shit but isn't any saint or hero nor is he some evil thing. Just a sad sack life with lotsa bad decisions. Really when I heard I just shrugged and thought.....whatever.

I`m really not sure what point you are trying to make there Rick. Rodney King wasn`t responsible for what happened to Reginald Denny. Rodney didn`t pull him out of the truck and beat him to an inch of his life. He`s no more responsible for that than all the great police officers in the world are responsible for the actions of 4 bad ones.

We should ALL be grateful none of us were either of them. They were both victims of horrific violence.

Over 50 people died in the Riots. The cause of the Riots was not the LAPD. It was caused by a selfish, drugged-up asshole running from the LAPD. If he had just pulled over when the first lit him up, or the LAPD had just shot him at the end of the chase, non of this would have happened. Reginald Denny was an INNOCENT victim, Rodney king was not an Innocent Victim. Rodney King was responsible for what happened to him, and the others. His actions after the event reinforce this view.

I do not take joy in his death, but I will feel a bit safer on the streets knowing that he is no longer out there.

It's the Butterfly Effect. Now the LAPD just shoots when they have cause.

This dimwit took the LAPD on a high speed chase. When he finally stopped, he got out and held his phone like a gun after he told the dispatcher that he was armed and not afraid of the LAPD. After chasing him a couple hundred feet, they unloaded 90 rounds. Deader than Rodney, and not much sympathy. Most were just upset that he ruined their drive home.

For years prior to the Rodney King beating I use to go into the South Central and East LA schools for work and never had a problem. AAMOF I was treated better at these campuses then at some of the "white" schools. Things got real different after the beating and my clients would prefer to come to our downtown office to meet with me. You could see it was a powder keg ready to go. I was at David Starr Jordan HS in LGB the day of the verdict. The football coach, who could have passed for Decon Jones twin brother, walked me to my car told me to get on the 91 freeway and not stop until I saw the ocean. Words well heeded and by the time I got back to Ventura that evening, shit had hit the fan.

Few of my LA Cop buddies use to say RK was no more that just a useless bag of shit common criminal, but no one deserved the beat down he got.

I was hauling a horse up from Del Mar with a girl who could have been the poster child for the Aryan Nation, blonder than blonde, we had the radio off, got lost near Southgate and turned around on city streets, could smell the fires...turned on the radio, found out that the shhtf, got back on the fwy and got the hell out of there.

Hey Gaston, why do you keep littering about upper court case..... I highly doubt that they fired the cop considering you were forced to pay fines and put on probation for quite a while. Keep lying though.....anyone can look it up at the Monroe count clerk website and even find you're mugshot online preserved in all its glorious stupidity.

He's got a lot of details wrong.

Looks to me the officer didn't have to side-step an inch to clothes-line King, consistent with Kings version that he tried to run passed him, after being told to "Run nigger, we are going to kill you."

There were about a dozen officers there, more than enough to pin him and cuff him, but they continued beating him. Hardly any injuries? The medical people are interviewed in this as well.

It was a beat down. "Standard procedure" in the US? Maybe, but not what we like to think the "US" is about.

So you want to give the cops the discretion to beat people to death if they try to run, even when detention is achievable, and the person has surrendered.

Since it's quite obvious that neither his mother nor his father ever succeeded into beating some common sense, morals, ethics or manners into 'Lil Rodney, I still have no qualms today that the LAPD took over the King's parenting role.
