      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Russian AC challenger?

Recommended Posts

Anyone has heard more on a possible Russian team? Is it official?

Synergy had been keeping up with AC updates on the Synergy web page through Venice. That would be the most obvious. They would have the horsepower to participate, even at this late of stage, right?

A "commando raid" now though given the 7-8 month build time. Earliest sailing time would be around early March. There would be precious little work-up time.

Which is just the way the Synergy guys roll, if you lack time...throw money at it, just see the TP campaign.

8 months build time was Iain Murray's figure. Bruno Peyron has suggested 7 months. To what extent you can shorten that by throwing money at it I don't know. If it takes 9 months for one woman to have a baby, how long would 9 women take?

Easy - team up with the Koreans :D

Good thinking. The Russians and French still don't like each other much, right (that whole Napoleon thing, and all)? Although, not sure if the South Koreans are very fond of the Ruskies, either.

Synergy no way.

Think more along the lines of Russian money for the Artemis campaign. They are going cap in hand as they have burned through their cash. Cap held out to TT's business partner, Gunardi Timchenko.

With Gunvor, TT seems to be just a lucky western version of a Russian oligarch anyway. Partner is Russian born but now a Finn right?

Rumor has it that Gunvor and Timchenko are Putin's route for oil/cash out of Russia. Neither TT nor Timchenko are allowed in to the USA.

Wait...9 women by nine months is, erm...jandals off for this maths.

I'm not saying it's the right way to approach yachting, just speaking from experience of being around them whilst the time ticks down and the dollar/euro/rouble spend goes through the roof.

For AC34?

RUS is a possibility for entering the 2012/13 ACWS. Another possibility is out there too.

It is clearly too late for AC34 if you're only starting to plan now. The ETNZ launch today is exhibit A. Any RUS entry will/would be future-stanced.

I suspect you're right Stingray, however, what we have actually seen from ETNZ today is the unvailing of a wing that appears to be a scaled up version of the current C-class "state of the art" and I find it hard to believe that the North designed "standard" wing package would be much different. So a team could in theory hit the ground running by buying the plans. If ETNZ unvailed an Artemis style all bells and wistles wing then it might have been different story.

This is why the Americans always have to do shit on their own :-)

Agree all of that.

But I am right. Asked several people and the summary of the the responses so far is what I posted. An RUS entry into ACWS definitely is being considered.

Wing looks decidedly non-state-of-the-art to me. Simple and robust, not ultra-high lift and super tweakable...but i haven't seen enough to be sure either way

We had similar comments (from similar posters) about how disappointingly low tech/passe/old school ... the AC45 wing was. Some pointed out that functionality and robustness were as, or more desirable features that the ultimate L/D ratio.

This KISS philosophy seemed to slowly gain adherents as the AC45 showed both it's performance but also the rough way it would at times be treated. Now we seem to be back to square one as far as some are concerned?
