      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

ISAF Sailing World Cup Sail Melbourne Cup Carnival

Recommended Posts

So an email arrives about the "ISAF Sailing World Cup Sail Melbourne Cup Carnival ". Its 2 -8 December.

"

Only two weeks to celebrate Australia’s golden moment and revel in the Olympic spirit at Sandringham Yacht Club this December as the first leg of the prestigious ISAF Sailing World Cup returns to Melbourne, Australia.

The 2012-13 ISAF Sailing World Cup features five regattas globally, of which Sail Melbourne is the first. Following Melbourne, teams will compete in Miami, USA; Palma, Spain; finishing in Hyeres, France.

This world class sailing regatta provides an opportunity for local and international Olympic athletes as well as a new generation of sailors to compete for the world title and commence their 2016 campaign for Rio de Janeiro.

As elite athletes contest the title, Sail Melbourne strengthens its status as Melbourne's premier lifestyle sailing event. This year, the Sail Melbourne Cup Carnival continues to feature live music, fashion, great food and family entertainment, through its signature events; the Official Sailing World Cup Dinner (4th Dec), Sail Experience Luncheon (6th Dec), International Sailing Summit (3rd Dec), Olympic Athlete Roadshow (2nd Dec) and the Sail Melbourne Cup Carnival Family Day (8th Dec)!

So we have a so called "Prestigious" event for so called "Olympic Athletes" to commence there Olympic 2016 campaign.

This is the same Yachting Australia that was roundly ignored by the competitors at the last Olympics.

I wont go on about the program of self congratulatory dinners, conferences, and "golden moments" to allow the great unwashed an opportunity to rub shoulders with the great and good. Then of course you need to be "invited" to compete anyway. ...and don't forget the $1700 per table lunch.

To put it another way, why the fuck doesnt Yachting Australia announce its Olympic team for 2016 right now? Why pretend there is any local competition? Without a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport and a bucket of sponsors money you aren't going anywhere, no matter how good you are kids.

There is more sportsmanship and good fellowship in a game of Beach cricket or the Friday evening "Frothy Cup" Laser race than the entire olympics put together.

As for the Elite and Prestigious tags, dont make me laugh.

WHy did we let these pricks hijack the sport?

Fuck all overseas interest in this post Olympic year. Absolutely PATHETIC entry list in most classes.Their marketing perpetuates the "glamorous rich lifestyle" slant we, as a sport, have been trying to lose for many years with sailing at this event being hijacked by the utterly irrelevant glitzy rent-a-crowd Fashionistas.

As for the Aus Olympic $uccession Plan, we have all known about that for many years. Those who play in that particular sandpit already know the rules and who sucks who to climb the ladder.

Imagine what the funding for the $ail Melbourne extravaganza could do for grass roots sailing.
