      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Never ceases to amaze me that nearly every single mass murder in America is done by a seriously impaired individual. I wish we could address that single fact together so that somehow this terrible shit could stop.

I see. What you are saying is that some people go to a fancy place with a great reputation, read the menu, and leave before they actually order and have a taste of the beer batter snot-fucks with a crusty puss remoulade.

I see a large business opportunity of selling walk through detectors to private businesses and public schools.

Might as well deal with the reality of the arming of the populace.

The reality is that murders per thousand people have declined, even in places with few restrictions on guns. Another reality is that the decline has been most pronounced when examining handguns used in murders. Another reality is that the plural of anecdote is not data. Another one is that I could post self defense stories every day, but I don't. Lots of realities to deal with.

Without armed guards, I don't know how effective it would be. Even then, they might just shoot up the parking lot. I am fine with whatever rules a private business wants to establish, but in my mind the only thing that policy would guarantee is that customers walking to and form their car would be unarmed.

I think the TSA is all theater and little safety. People get guns and other weapons past them but no grandmother is getting a bottle of shampoo through the "security" in airports.

We do not need more victim disarmament zones and we do not need to turn America into more of a police state in the name of the wars on guns, drugs, or terror, IMO.

Do you have an issue with private businesses having gun-free zones? are the "leave your guns at the door" signs a problem?

It's not a "rights' issue, as you can choose not to frequent private businesses.

Fear is a great way to open wallets - i'd say gun manufacturers could make a mint by designing a handgun that looks approachable for the suburban housewife, as opposed to all the military style weapons.

Private businesses that are open to the public are not allowed to put up some signs, like "No Blacks Allowed" and so on. Is that a rights issue? People are free to go elsewhere.

everything is still in basic black. They gotta add some color and some better ergonomics

But they might want to change colors now and then, and discontinue colors that are out of fashion. This creates a problem in places like California, where the "safe guns list" only contains guns for which the manufacturers have paid a fee. When they discontinue a color, the mfg's quit paying and the model number that goes with that color goes off the list. In effect, the state bans sales of guns of a different color by dropping them from the "safe" list when this happens.

All of it is more evidence to me that gun registries exist to provide vehicles for restricting gun ownership and for no other reason.

Speaking of vehicles, how many died today driving to a mall?

If I was to pull a Favre, I'd say you don't have the right to stand up in crowded theatre(private business) and yell "Fire" - and the company I work for regularly restricts my 1st amendment rights - at the workplace. No ability to have certain humor posted, religious artifacts forbidden, etc. I can't bring a weapon on site either. Since the 1st and 2nd amendments are linked by various SCOTUS rulings, and 1st amendment rights are restricted, I'd assume businesses have the ability to restrict 2nd amendment rights on their premises.

To me, this shooting does not indicate the need for all such places to have metal detectors and presumably to prohibit guns. And possibly bottles of shampoo that are a bit too large. More security theater is not the answer.

If only some of the folks 100 feet away had a pistol - they would have done away with the guy with the AR-15 quite quickly!

Maybe we should let returning vets keep their rifles and walk the malls?

Oh, I could see a scenario where say 50% of the shoppers are packing. The perp enters scene and declares "I'm the shooter" and proceeds to spray the crowd. The pistol packing crowd takes cover while retrieving their weapons and drawing. One or two get a few rounds off at the perp. Others, entering the scene late, see the return fire and unknowingly return fire on the shoppers. Those shoppers return fire on the late arriving shoppers unsure if they are accomplices to the shooter. The police enter the scene and enter a crossfire of shoppers shooting each at each other and the perp. They engage the all shooters.

Its been documented on one of those reality cop shows.

A few weeks ago we had our annual "safety training", which for the first time here also included a segment called, "active shooter" which included a DVD presentation. In it, a guy walks up to a business with an athletic bag, goes inside, pulls out a riot 12-gauge and starts blasting at people. The narrator talks about the wise things to do, such as get the fack out if you can, don't go back for people; if you can't get out, barricade yourself in a room, etc etc. Oh, and if it's quite convenient, call 911. This is all fine.

As a gun-owning individual, I find it really unfortunate if not downright sad that it's come to the point of management feeling it's necessary to "train" it's employees how to handle a workplace rampage. But the real thing is that which I took the time to point out to the training fellow. We've met before on good terms, so I didn't mind introducing only a hint of controversy: I pointed out to him (more like, "did you notice...?) that, on the glass doors of said office building in the dramatization, there were obvious, stenciled white letters & words to the effect, "In Accordance with Title XYZ, the carrying of concealed weapons on these premises is prohibited."

Go figure.

A guy's going to buy or take his existing shotgun, load up on shot for the occasion, plan it out, wake up the day of the event knowing what he's going to do. He plans a little weapons brandishing, aggavated assault, terroristic threatening, 1st degree homicide, aggravated menacing, possibly kidnapping, and who knows what else....

and then -

....is going to decide, "Darn it to heck, I'm not allowed to take a weapon in to work!! Guess I'll have to just write them a nasty letter and then go and play golf instead."

I told the guy that I wasn't advocating that people, even licensed permit holders, should necessarily come to this office armed, but, that it is a clear sign that this place is a pen full of waiting sheep and that it does no good to advertise to the crazies of the world, where the best targets can be found. Such as theatres, shopping malls, state offices, and schools. I think I added that the posting at the door did NOTHING to prevent this incident, just to spell it out in crayon for him. The guy kind of got into a vacuous, "I'll hear you out and then go take a dump" kind of look on his face. I honestly don't know if he got the irony I was pointing out, or not.

What kind of sick f$+# hits an elementary school?

Connecticut State Police say they and local police responded to a Friday morning shooting at Newtown's Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Hartford Courant was reporting that shortly after 9:40 a.m., one shooter was reported in the main office of the elementary school and one victim had numerous gunshot wounds. Details were sketchy, but theNewtown Bee is reporting that a police officer carried a seriously wounded child from the building. (The Courant also said one shooter was reported dead).

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m. after it was placed on lock down, parents said.

The school is in a residential, wooded neighborhood . It has has 39 teachers and about 650 students. A reverse 911 call went out to parents warning of an incident. Parents were being reunited with children. But, NBC Connecticut reported, police are searching the area behind the school with guns drawn.

Dozens of state troopers are on the scene assisting local police. Heavily armed police gathered in front of the school around 10:45 a.m., and a number of stretchers were set up.

The school superintendent's office says the district has locked down schools as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. State police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance says they have a number of personnel on the scene to assist.

A 1:30 press conference has been scheduled.

I suppose the days of open campus public schools in the suburbs are coming to an end. We already have a movement locally for a lock-down campus, as we had a predator last fall trying to pick up girls walking home (don't ask me how a locked down campus can prevent that, it can't). The douchebag was caught before he could do anything but scare the crap out of a couple of girls and the entire parental community.

I would expect our campus to join the lockdown, gated school list in the next year or so.

Children stabbed in attack at Chinese school

Police say nearly two dozen children injured in central China province of Henan by knife-wielding villager.

At least 22 children and one adult have been injured in a knife attack outside a primary school in central China, police say.

An officer said the attack, in the village of Chengping in Henan province, happened shortly before 8am on Friday, as students were arriving for classes.

The attacker, believed to be 36-year-old villager Min Yingjun, is in police custody, said officials.

A county hospital administrator said the man first attacked an elderly woman, then students, before being subdued by security guards. Two students have since been transferred to "better-equipped" hospitals outside the county.

China has witnessed a spate of school stabbings in recent years, leading to more security guards being deployed across the vast country.

In March 2010, eight children were murdered in Nanping, Fujian province, by 41-year-old knifeman Zheng Minsheng. The attacker was executed a month later, hours before 33-year-old Chen Kangbing injured 16 students and a teacher at Hongfu Primary School in Leizhou, Guangdong.

In April 29 2010, 28 school children - mostly four-year-olds - were stabbed alongside two teachers and a security guard in Taixing, Jiangsu. On April 30, Wang Yonglai committed suicide after using a hammer to attack preschool children in Weifang, Shandong.

Further attacks in the months and years following have left 11 children and four adults dead, and several more injured.

Get used to it, Folks, WIth 300 million guns and virtually no additional regulations allowed, this is going to be part and parcel of Life in America. If 1/10 of 1% of the population is crazy enough to do stuff like this, that's 300,000 folks walking around who might shoot up the school or a mall.

Way to go - take the tragedy, and use it to jump up on your soapbox.

Well, Mitch did drop it in Political Anarchy before the bodies finished cooling down, and you have to expect that here.

The...

...lack of sensitivty is sometimes astonishing.

Are you fucking pro-gun people happy now? Dear friends of our family are getting news that they may have lost a child. When the fuck are you going to put people's safety over your own need to get your jollies from blasting off a few rounds?

Supposedly "dozens" of children.

Kindergarten classrooms typically have about thirty children or so.

There's no more kindergarten class. They're all dead.......
