Try the whole picture, not just the boat.

One thing I find funny is that even though there is a definite time span between the two images what appears to be the main halyard is in the same exact unruly pile at the base of the mast, undisturbed by man or forces of nature.

Just the sand for blasting that thing would cost more than it's worth.

An apparently abandoned 52 year old steel boat? That's gonna need the BIG welder.

Ha!  I've never seen that white text idea.  Pretty cool!

The 3 I found were the For Sale sign, registration sticker, and tiller handle,  .  I neglected to look around the boat at other objects.

I did notice that there were an awful lot of empty slips in that marina.

Here's a reassuring picture from inside the C-22.

The seller admits to repairing a leaky hatch seal with Duct Tape, and here you see a heat lamp position directly beneath said hatch.

Here are my answers, I actually wound up with 10 but number 10 is questionable. Very good Marcjsmith.

1. Bumpers on the USCG Ship

2. Missing Tiller Handle

3. Missing boat two slips away

4. Missing boat at dock on stern

5. Far boat, the tarp is ripped more

6. No for sale sign

7. Registration sticker of a different year

8. High tide/Low Tide

9. Lifeline position

10. Line on front of stbd handrail.

Its a shame when vessels get like that. That was a lovely vessel once upon a time. Its a fairy tale to think you could get her back. Even Corten steel has its limits. If you did UT testing on her, you'd probably push the probe right through the plating.

If you at only the part of the hull in darkest shadow, it doesn't look bad.

Taken as a whole, however, I wonder how bystanders react when the owner takes it to the local boat ramp to begin another round-the-world voyage.

That is beyond unfortunate.

I see the messy photos that accompany many of these ads, and I get it that those may be the only photos available, and that the owner just can't be bothered to straighten things up to make it look nice.  But this........  This owner keeps the boat neat, and obviously took the time to take good pictures -- just what the hell was he thinking with this picture?  That prospective buyers will know that mold spots are easy to wipe off?  Or is he targeting the explosive diarrhea market?

Rangers are nice boats; a step up from the Catalinas and Odays of the time, and this one looks to be in good shape.  But 14K?  Even if you take a sponge and bleach to that portapottie, it's still a 1975 and this boat is worth no more than 10K.

I have often thought of dissasembling our old farm house and selling the lumber.  it has been disused for years and is very vulnerable. someone went in and stripped the copper in the last year or two and i'm worried that the next person in will set it on fire.  My brother, who owns the land and the house, and my niece are in the process of stripping the mill work and doors now. The house is either a Sears or Eatons catalougue home dating to about 1925. all the framing, joists, rafters and flooring will be old growth douglas fir. do y'all think that could be sold for real money?

Probably - the only problem with 100 year old fir lumber is that you need steel working tools to do anything with it.

yes, yes it is.  it needs to be used in trim, furniture and feature pieces.  I have in fact used old douglas fir from some of our other old farm buildings in framed table and desk projects and the like.  I find it stunningly beautiful, fine straight grain with a warm glowing colour.

Back in the 60's, we (Dad, Mom, & two little kids. Plus a crane & friends on big days) tore down a house and an old barn on a nearby property, and used the lumber to build my Mom & Dad's house, and a barn.  And a couple of smaller outbuildings.  I spent lots of days when I was six years old pulling nails out of old siding.  Anyway, I've still got a DF 2x24 plank from that barn, that I used as a desk all through college.

They don't have those, at Home Depot.

The old OG DF is on the heavy side for cabinetry so I'm thinking structural.

It could be that it doesn't take bends well being that old, I'm just thinking out loud here.

That shit gets hard.

Architectural salvage dealers might offer something for it -- but not very much. Their business model relies on getting stuff for basically free, then storing it & selling it along.

I occasionally hang my cabinets in 1900 homes (sometimes Sears Roebucks) with rough doug fir VG framing. Trying to drive a 2.5", black-oxide-coated #10 cabinet screw into that stuff is murder.

Sigh! You just saved me from a lot of work :-)

If you want it to go to a good home, a 'free for the taking' Craigslist ad could be a way to get rid of it. You might attract a salvage dealer willing to pry it off, or some energetic young people with visions of stripping old mouldings to re-use in their tiny house. Or something.

The other problem you face, of course, is that likely all the millwork in older houses has ten coats of brittle lead paint lurking on it. Selling or disposal becomes an abatement issue.

Most of the mill work in the house is bright with original varnish. There is a bank of 3 or 4 double hung windows in one wall of the living room with an enclosed veranda, varnish, original glass, iron cam latches.  I can never remember them open.
