      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

A monkey on crack would probably post something which makes more sense. That pile of gibberish makes me want to call the guy just so I can punch him.

Here is one

Calling this rough is a bit of an understatment

http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/boa/3828453231.html

This is the perfect example of why I started this thread.

"Firewood...make offer."

Yah that is 'way more than rough. This boat passed thru "rough" about 25 years ago.

I wonder if he's considered donating it to a junior sailing program?

ATOMIC FOUR DIESEL. Yeah, right.

Pretty boat though.

Not mocking this one.

Needs an engine but... $6,000? Not bad looking from the pics either.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/boa/3777864067.html

1946 Ed Monk Sr. Sailboat - $6500 (Tacoma)
3K83Gf3H35I45Kc5Hed51175d28256b09108d.jp
DEAL FELL THROUGH SO BACK ON MARKET!

Now offering as is for $6000 Firm. Lease is transferable at TYEE. The motor that no longer works, is an Atomic 4 Diesel 16hp.

I have it stored down at Tyee Marina in Tacoma. Family/work issues prevent me from keeping this boat. So unfortunately I will be selling ASAP. Serious inquiries only. Way too many tire kickers and I don't have the time to show you just because your curious... So please be a serious buyer. I'd rather spend more time sending photos as apposed to running down to Tacoma to show someone who isn't ready to purchase.

This boat needs some minor work to the exterior, but nothing major that I can see. It's a beautiful boat looking for the right owner. I've had several people check out the motor and it definitely needs to be replaced. I just have not had time to dedicate myself to change it out or give this wood boat the attention in needs. The longer a wood boat sits, the more work it will eventually need.

Built in Mid 40s in Seattle of stout cedar on oak frames. Moonsail SV.
Beam 9ft , draft 4ft, 7 tons displacement, 4000 lb. ballast, cast iron wood stove, hand carvings and inlay wood work throughout. 6+ lanterns, a lot of character. 3 sails (main and two jibs - decent shape).
5'9" head room in cabin
The boat is wired for shore power, however I do not have much in the way of electronics. A few cabin lights, am/fm radio, older CB, and electric bilge pump. It also has a depth finder.

Not too many of these boats left in this good of shape.
Well known around the Puget Sound.
On the cover of "Cruising the San Juan Islands" -- Bruce Calhoun
New stainless steel rudder -- Spring 2010
New zincs -- February 2012
Bottom Paint -- Spring 2010
Stuffing Box Repacked- Spring 2010

I do not have a current survey on the boat. More pictures available upon request. Photos are from boat this last summer (2012).

Due to the overwhelming number of e-mails I received last go-around I will respond and show in order as I receive them. Only seems fair.

Key words: antique, sail, sailboat, cutter, live-aboard, ed monk sr., diesel,

"Atomic 4 Diesel" I can kinda understand the confusion here. Atomic 4 - old gas. However, there was a Kubota engine branded the Universal Atomic. Ours was a 2 cyl 10hp (Cal 9.2), though I've not seen a 16hp version, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Well, Universal made the Atomic 4, as well as a diesel. Perhaps it's a Universal diesel?

In '73 I paid 75US for a 1960 Ford 250 pickup, true the passenger side door had to be welded closed to pass NYS inspection, but hey.

In '76 I paid $75 for a '62 Fairlane complete with V8 engine. It took me and two friends down to Cali and Mexico for the summer and back again. True, it wouldn't upshift when we were more than a thousand feet above sea level but $75 for thousands of miles of transportation?

I guess she's the "more" - either that or the "many years of use left in her"

I once owned a Catalina and wanted to put flames on it....... but in reverse... Back to front. I thought it might give me a edge on the start.

A raccoon in the ad?!?!? Gotta wonder about that.

I feel bad holding this guy up to mockery since he has obviously been dealt some pretty shitty cards in life, living aboard a 23' boat. But it may be that he earned his place in the world and is actually exceeding expectations. I'd also be dubious about having insurance and a working motor, but it's good to mention those things in an ad like this.

Also, does anybody wonder what kind of replies ads like this get?

I am pretty sure this boat used to be in my town in southern VT. I drove by it for sale one day and thought "what the hell is a 470 doing here where the lakes are really small and the wind is shitty?" Well it sold to a guy in in northern VT. The irony was that the local seller just found the boat uncomfortable, he never had it out in anything more than a flukey 10 mph breeze.

If I remember right, it was owned by a woman that built the house on it and did live aboard for a few years. She did keep it in great shape. It disappeared into a slip between boathouses and fell into it's current condition.

only if it is on the boat when you take it from the dock.

Better that the raccoon is on this boat and not one of ours!

Holy moly, somebody decked over a cement-mixing trough and set up a rig using yard tools for spars.

A neighbor kid and I "built" a boat like this when I was 6 or 7 but if we'd known we could have SOLD it for actual money... like maybe $20... we wouldn't have disassembled it at the end of the day and returned all the borrowed components.

Look, it's got a "sealed hull & deck," what could possibly go wrong

Have to move for the job. No more fun time with the boat. I have no room to store the boat inside. hope that a enthusiast like me can sail the boat some day. boat is 90% finished. Sail, Mast, Rudder and retractable Keel and Hardware and Trailer comes with it. Boat is build for off shore sailing.
Spend over $ 3500 and 1000 hours of work. Boat is 15'-6" long and 6' wide. Weight 500 lbs plus 205 lbs Keel. Sleeps and sits two.

Offshore sailing? I wouldn't leave the dock in that thing in a small lake.

You can't make up stuff like this... at least, I couldn't...

Truth in advertising - it's experimental and it's junk.

Honestly you fuckers kill me. This is one of my stoned bookmark threads, always a laugh or six every day. Keep it up!

The thing about this thread is, Good material is so easy to come buy: one minuet of research:

Potential bidders are strongly urged to view this yacht prior to placing a bid, as her condition is so poor.

What a deal for $300 -- needs a new engine, but it does have ignition keys. Also, maybe what the owner meant is that what it really needs is a "Tidal Surge":

my favorite part is that it's built for offshore sailing. Off shore what; the edge of my backyard fish pond, in the deep part?

There was a boat like this in our beer can fleet circa 1985. It sailed OK, but it sure did look odd from some angles.

Looks like an early MacGregor 26.

How about this one for $1,850::

http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-boats-watercraft-sailboats-Buy-my-stupid-ex-boyfriends-boat-Its-cheap-like-his-excuses-W0QQAdIdZ483269020

My stupid ex boyfriend is a commitment-phobe, so I guess it's no surprise that he wasn't up to the commitment involved in owning a boat. Like every other good thing in his life, my stupid ex boyfriend walked away from a beautiful sailboat, and left me to pick up the pieces. So I`m selling it. Don`t worry; I`m not a crazy jilted woman. I`ve got the legal right to sell this beauty.

The boat is actually quite wonderful, unlike my stupid ex boyfriend. It's a classic Alberg 22, with a full keel, a furling jib (something the stupid ex boyfriend never fully understood) and a suite of sails, all in pretty good condition. It's also unique in that it's got a black mast, and from the research I've done, it might be one of a kind in that sense. One of a kind--definitely not like my stupid ex boyfriend. It also has some very valuable opening, screened ports, probably worth more than I'm asking for the boat just themselves. I just want this thing out of my hands!

With a little dedication and work, this boat could be turned into something really special, not like my stupid ex boyfriend. No amount of work, dedication or patience could save him. Not even Christ can save him. Luckily for you, he never followed through on his plans for the boat (typical). Otherwise, who knows what kind of disaster he would have left in his wake (also typical). So do me, and yourself a favour, and buy my stupid ex boyfriend's ex-sailboat. Deals like this don't come around every day!
The boat is now in storage outside Almonte.

What you get:
Alberg 22 sailboat, sound hull and deck with amazing woodwork both interior and exterior
Folding cradle
Custom-made skeleton and canvas boat cover for winter
All sails, both hank-on or furling configurations
The satisfaction of knowing that my stupid ex boyfriend has nothing, and you have a beautiful boat

That... could almost be the woman from whom I bought my boat. Except that she and the current boyfriend could claim that the absent ex was the source of all detailed knowledge about the boat. Actually, I suspect that the the last owner with detailed knowledge was at least twice more removed.

"boat was only used in fresh water."

that's a lie. Clearly it was also used on dry land.

Maybe the flood water was fresh? If it was mostly rain water, could be the resulting salinity of the mix was pretty low.

The door obviously was only opened to let the animals out after it came to rest on Mt. Ararat.
