      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

26! Fuck me! How fast can they get? Wind is still building.

Are the speeds shown the average since that last update or the live speed from the boat at the time of the update?

Also Rags and PL.

Yo Clean! What do I win for picking the first three places back on page four of this thread?

Before we knew if oats was going to use DIY DSS?

Before we knew if it was old mast or new on Oats?

I called the split between Loyal and Rags at two or three hours, that should be around the money too!

And all this from my work desktop when I should have been working armchair 10 days ago. I'm not on the good book.

Beau Geste just passed GIA and she'll get BJ too in the next couple of hours. That'll push her into 4th on the line.

BJ looks to have the goods over GIA now so it's just a matter of whether or not WT can get past the 70's.

30 knots could come out of WO, PL BG or the 2 Volvo 70's reaching across storm bay. It would be hard (but not impossible) exceeding 25 knots with the wind behind.

Interesting how WOXI is hitting high 20's and that none of the other 100's or the 70's and BG only getting close to 20. Three more gybes for WOXI and away. Can't see the order changing now short of a disaster or two. BG to pass BJ though..............

3pm and ABC informing viewers of light winds and fog causing havoc for the fleet at present and calling it one of the slower runs in the race's history. WTF??? When I did it it took 4-5+ days.

Wish they would update information once in a while!

Still, think this is one of the better races.

McConaghy Boats leading the way in the Rolex Sydney Hobart

Hobart, Tasmania (28 December 2013) - As the lead boats head for the home stretch in the exhilarating 2013 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, Bob Oatley’s WILD OATS XI (“WOXI”) looks to have an unassailable lead over perhaps the most competitive fleet ever assembled for the historic race.

Despite trailing the newer and more powerful custom 100-foot PERPETUAL LOYAL for much of the race, WOXI’s crew showed near-flawless execution of their navigational and sailing plans overnight to open up a 26 NM lead over Anthony Bell’s ‘new kid on the block.’ With a powerful Nor’easter developing over the fleet, Wild Oats XI is now screaming toward Storm Bay; the McConaghy Boats-built Reichel/Pugh design is averaging over 22 knots with no sign of backing off the throttle. Meanwhile, Perpetual Loyal is sailing at a more pedestrian 16.5 knots, her hopes of catching Wild Oats XI diminishing by the minute.

Gale force winds of up to 45 knots are predicted later tonight or early Sunday, which may favor the smaller boats fighting for handicap placings - provided they can stand up to the sporty conditions. One of those boats has seen much worse in her nearly 30 years of life - she’s Roger Hickman's historic McConaghy-built Wild Rose (ex-Wild Oats), and she currently leads the fleet overall on both IRC and ORCi handicap. Separated by almost 25 years, another McConaghy-built star performer, the 55 foot Reichel/Pugh Wedgetail (ex-Yendys), also looks to have a strong chance at a podium finish on both handicap schemes.

The newest boat out of the McConaghy stable is Ker 46 Patrice, who currently leads her division on IRC, trailing another McConaghy/Ker comboKerumba for ORCi class honors. Finally, the new Ker 40 Midnight Rambler is fighting for position as well, and she looks strong for a solid placing on the handicap leaderboard.

It will be a long night ahead for many of the smaller boats, and all of us at McConaghy wish a safe crossing to the entire fleet. We will continue to bring you constant updates from the finish line here in Tasmania as well as on-board call-ins with many of the team navigators via our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/mcconaghyboats.

McConaghy Boats Special Reporter and Sailing Anarchy Senior Editor “Mr. Clean” spoke to Michael “Cocko” Coxen about the fleet, the conditions, and this historic race in an informative 16-minute interview recorded this morning, click here to listen to the interview

And for a bit of fun and luck, we’ve just launched a Sydney-Hobart contest to win some great swag from McConaghy and Sailing Anarchy; Click Here for the rules and conditions, and good luck!

I'm thinking something has to be wrong with BG. Consistently slow, along with WT.

BG appears to have had mostly terrible calls course-wise throughout the last 24-36 hours but now they should just be going like stink.

PL lighting up now - just hit 27.3 28.2

Does the tracker feed into yachts data, or just take direction and distance/speed from between timed GPS positions, so an average for whatever the time gap is? If so, what interval - 5 sec, 30 sec, 2min? Then there's the question about how often they update the data to the online tracker, seems to vary between 5min and 30min.

Blowing a steady 40-50 knots from the WSW down the Vic peninsula now. Sure will be a fast reach along the Tassie coast tonight for the 50-60 footers for those who have set up for this.

Where do you guys get this 20 knots boatspeed from ? The breeze in the Derwent is easing and it's in the North

Maybe just after they turn right but WO has turned and dropped to 15k. Expect more speed drops.

BG getting done easily now by both 70's - thought they would be the fastest on the track in these conditions, or too much downwind vmg for the platform? :( PL has certainly been lighting up in this stuff.

Yeah when they had the 50nm lead and 5 knots of boat speed on Loyal I said they should back off to ensure the win.

5 mins later then where showing 23.5 knots, I cracked a huge smile and thought wow! As I said at the time, no better place in the workd to be right now than on the deck on WOXI!!!

To dominate Speedramblerloyal so convincingly ( and all others over the last 8 years ) surely we can crown WOXI the best SUPERMAXI and crew in the world today.
