      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Melges site has a section listing "certified used" boats. What does this mean?

It means they are certified. Sounds totally worth it.

True, and it also means they are used.

But are they really boats?

Yes, but they are "certified used" boats.

It means

1) there are a bunch of used Melgi dragging down new boat sales.

2) Buddy takes a old worn out Melges in trade

3) Buddy lists trade-in boat at very high price

4) dumb rich guy is told by dockboys "buy a new Melges they really hold their value"

5) dumb rich guy listens to dockboys overlays for new boat

6) dockboys get a brand new ride

7) Buddy makes fat margin

Somebody got out of bed the wrong side this morning.

I think all it means is that Harry drove by the BMW dealership on Saturday and saw the "Certified Pre-Owned" BMW spring promotion http://www.bmwusa.com/cpo and thought "Thats a good idea".

Mambo,

Dealer Margins on used boats are paltry

Opposite for used cars

I jest.

The site is pretty self explanatory. Its a page for any Melges owners to post a boat they have for sale. Melges charges $25 to list a boat for sale. There's a similar page for anyone who wants to buy a used Viper http://forum.viper640.org/index.php?board=5.0

The Viper page is not certified but it is free. :)

I heard from Melges. The certified moniker simply means the boat was built by Melges. They were very nice about it but I (apparently naively) hoped "certified "meant the hull had been inspected and one could rely on it being sound.
