      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Things looking bleak in OC

Recommended Posts

More commonly known as OKC--Oklahoma City though the devastation is south of the city in a suburb called Moore, about 20 miles south of Lake Hefner (Oklahoma City Boat Club) and 7 miles west of Stanley Draper Lake. We're hoping the best for the people there.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/05/20/185588779/tornado-emergency-declared-in-oklahoma-city

Yeah, you can forget about double-reefs or storm sails if this one was an F4:

MOORE, Okla. (AP) — Television footage shows flattened buildings and fires after a mile-wide tornado moved through the Oklahoma City area.

Video showed homes and buildings in Moore, Okla., were reduced to rubble, and vehicles littered roadways south and southwest of Oklahoma City.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The suburb of Moore, where Monday's damage was concentrated, was hit hard by a tornado in 1999 that included the highest winds ever recorded near the earth's surface.

Personal choice Snaggy. However I think you will find a number of people will be upset if you quote him either way. I know how much it upsets you to upset others, so you may want to avoid all the PMs saying you are soooorry. :)

Drove through the rubble of the Los Angeles Riots.

Drove through the rubble of the Northridge Earthquake.

Drove through the rubble of many SoCal fires.

Drove through the rubble of the Joplin MO twister a year ago, a year after it happened. Holy Shitski! I don't wish that on enyone, even Gaytor! Wholesale carnage.

Stay safe!

I sailed in the J-24 NA's back in the 80's with a boat from OKC. Really nice people. Got a good client up there, too. Hope all are safe, although clearly, this is a bad one. :(

Looking at the aerial vid now, unbelievable destruction. 37 confirmed dead, and it's early yet. There's talk that this may be the most powerful tornado ever to touch down in the US.

Things like this get to me - the level of devastation and grief on TV I'm seeing makes me ill. I know however that the community will rise up to help those affected. My best friend has a nephew in Norman that he can't get hold of should be out of the track of the storm but who knows?

BG , Norman was well south of the devastation . All phone lines, both cell and land are inop. Might try to text.

I don't know how people live there. Been through some storms that rattled me but not even 1/10th this kinda of thing. Terrible to hear about the victims especially young ones. Whole lot a sadness tonight.

It just gets worse and worse every hour.

Gotta wonder exactly what it is those children , and the community in general, did to get on the wrong side of the higher powers.

Particularly bad timing; the tornado hit right at the time school lets out.

As for what the community did; Fred, you've lived in this part of the world long enough to know that it's not Karma, it's tornado season.

No need for anyone to go Westboro on the victims or the survivors. This is one reason (the storms) that i wimped out on living in that region a while back. My hat's off to those with the nerve to witness this or live under its threat year after year.

Poor little kids. Heard a OKC weatherman describing the tornado as a mile wide lawn mower blade. Just horrible.

The Oklahoma medical examiner said 20 of the 91 expected to have been killed were children. The office had already confirmed 51 dead and had been told during the night by emergency services to expect 40 more bodies found in the debris, but had not yet received them.

24 3rd graders dead Point Break, Mr. Booth, and #6 make light of it.

Disgusting

No one is making light of a God damn thing to do with those poor people you piece of crap.

Real shame the school comes down and so many children are trapped to drowned in a broken water main. what a freakin' nightmare.

A bit of good news in this otherwise horrible situation. From today's NY Times:

"On Monday night, Amy Elliott, the spokeswoman for the Oklahoma City medical examiner, said at least 51 people had died and 40 more bodies were on their way, but on Tuesday, Ms. Elliott said that count “is no longer accurate.”

As of Tuesday morning, the medical examiner had confirmed 24 deaths, she said."

Got many friends and a brother down there. One friend hasn't got back to me, is from Moore and lives right in that general area around 4th and Sheridan. He has two young children but I don't know where they go to school. He got a new cell but I don't have the number yet and only have his landline.

Call me Bill.

Poor Oklahoma.

Lived in Lawton for a few years growing up. Tornado weather is very ominous looking and feeling. Had a couple near misses while we were there. Can't tell you what it's like to see one on the ground approaching.

From my experiences in OKC I can tell you they are very tough resilient people.

Hang in there OK.

I have a 73yo friend who put his DAGO house up for sale as plans to build 200 units behind him

he has just made an offer for a pad in Branson MO on a Golf Course

he can't believe the price difference and chance to live on a Golf Course

He's thinking LaCosta or Pebble Beach on the Cheap

I told him he's Senile

I Hate to even hear about weather events like what's happening now

can't imagine anyone with a choice moving where that kinda stuff is possible every year

I hope No-One else looses a life and the Lakes get filled w Water

Branson does not seem to have that type of weather. Must be too hilly or something, but the tornadoes seem to hit the flatter sections of the area (Joplin and to the west west, as well as north of the Ozarks and going into central Missouri, Illinois and Indiana).

Believe it or not, the appreciation of the effects of a tornado that you can get from the pictures and TV footage is nothing compared to seeing it in person. Until you stand in the middle of it, you cannot see just how overwhelmed the victims are and how devastating the damage is. You cannot imagine how overwhelmed it can make you when one minute you're in your home, and the next minute it is gone. You have no car to take you anywhere, and you may not even have your wallet left. Where do you go, how do you get there, how do you pay for it, what do you do are all things you can no longer take for granted. And that's assuming your family is okay.

We get tornadoes in our area every year, both large and small. The 1990 Fort Worth tornado hopscotched over a house we were building and one we were renting while leaving damage all around us. One touched down about a mile from us last year, and you could literally see its path through a neighborhood from the highway I drive home from work.

That reminds me. Time to give the Red Cross my credit card number again.

I should imagine it is much like looking at pictures of waves. You never get a good sense of just how powerful things are from a photo or video.

Sort of. What the pics and video don't really show is the human factor.

I watched one go buy once. Not just crazy powerful, but eerie. A sky the color of neon snot. And then a sound like seven locomotives having a cat fight.

The most moving video I've seen is of the old lady standing beside the pile of wreckage that was her house when her dog was found in the wreckage just feet away. If she got nothing else out, finding her dog was the best thing for her.

Too soon perhaps, but Gastonian douchbuggery is a whole nother level.

Watched some of the cell phone videos on ABC news of the schools during and after the event.

I love teachers. I spent @42 years working in stressful life threatening situations, trying to organize chaos and take care of life and property. I'm stunned by the incredible poise and capability of elementary school teachers, caring for and protecting our children in circumstances I'd find challenging.

I love teachers.

Respect and admiration.
