      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Oddball Lewmar Winch Parts

Recommended Posts

I was bee-bopping through West Marine the other day (got a gift card from the parental units), when I stumbled upon a Lewmar winch service kit. It came with the grease, and pawl springs.

My Lewmar winches are pretty old. Are the springs universal or did they have several different kinds over the years?

Did I mention my winches are old?

"How old are they?"

They're so old, that they're from a period in the 70's when Lewmar had a proprietary sized star drive socket. It's slightly smaller than the standard version that everyone uses today.

Does anyone have any old handles lying around, or know of a source for them?

Thanks!

Every winch I've ever serviced - from #6 Barlows to 736 Barient 3 speeders used the same pawl springs. I've also found that pawls are interchangeable but must ALL be changed dues to slight variations in length between manufacturers.

As for the winch handle - consignment shops, Flea Bay etc. are probably your only hope.

Around here we have four old sailors with machinist tools in their garages.

We bring them standard winch handles and they make special ones.

If you can't find a friendly machinist you can probably file a square drive handle until it fits your winches. New files and an NBA playoff game on Yc ought do it.
