      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

"Since his plane touched down in Washington at 4 a.m., Secretary Kerry was working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt," Psaki said Wednesday evening. "He participated in the White House meeting with the president by secure phone and was and is in non-stop contact with foreign leaders, and his senior team in Washington and Cairo. Did Obama and Hillary ever detail what they were doing during Benghazi? Why is it that Obama was around for a photo op when Osama was killed but he and his staff are never around when they are actually needed.

ah, long for the good ol days when Bush was debrushing and Cheney was running the government.

Dr. Sooper Genius, what does Egypt have to do with Benghazi and what should have been done about either? Neatness and accuracy count. Please be specific, looking into a hat for answers will not be accepted.

I get the impression this president and those around him are responsibiliphobic, when the &%^$ hits the fan they all hide until it's safe to come out and either blame someone or claim success.

Well, it was Ansar Al Sharia in Benghazi and they now seem to have an active group in Egypt.

In fact, they have taken up the torch cudgel since Morsi is gone.

Anyone who thinks Kerry was not available to communicate with anyone in the entire world at a moment's notice is delusional.

A few years ago I closed a very major deal during a conference call on my cell phone between races at BIRW.

Perhaps Kerry should stay on Nantucket. It might shave critical days off the sea voyage from the Mediteranian bringing news of what's happening in Egypt.

I agree with you that the State dept knows the whereabouts of the Sec State and how to contact him at all times so why did they feel the need to lie about it.

With everything that is going on in the world right now, I really don't care if he was getting a blow job from Barney Frank out on Nantucket - as long as he had access to his staff (you can try and figure out the referent there) and a phone.

This is just the kind of crap where both sides try to blow things (you can try and figure out the referent there) out of proportion for political gain.

Do we really expect our public servants to be chained to a desk (you can try and figure out the referent there) and not have any personal life?

What do you suggest, Congressional hearings?

Edit - The whole "referent" thing was not planned. I simply read what I wrote and dropped it in there after I picked up on the innuendo (you can try and figure out the referent there).

I'll share my recollection of a quote from a book I was reading recently WRT a WW2 General who asked - "Do we really want to commit forces and fight to the death to hold onto this little hill?"

Great. I love a Government that has no accountability.

We'll know exactly what happened as soon as Obama institutes that whole "most transparent administration in history" thing.

Keep the faith! Hope and change, and what not.

Friendship 76. Big flail over taxes when he home ported it in RI. IIRC he eventually paid Mass taxes after being called out over it. I think most of us do a bit of business from our boats from time to time.

Holy shit!!! I didn't realize how bad of is that people go out on boats. I loaned my three knot shitbox boat to the grand kids of one of my buddies to go play all weekend.

Looks as though I may have ruined their lives!!!

Oh double darn!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with them as well. Hopefully John won't let this personal setback delay his trip back to Washington where he'll be able to address the Egypt situation after he spends 4 hours in front of a Congressional hearing to determine how much time he spent on a boat over the weekend.

That would be true except for the fact that I have explained the purpose of these trivial sarcastic attacks many times. Of course if you and the rest want to admit you did it endlessly during the Bush administration and that you now understand how silly that was and you are sincerely sorry for being such hypocritical weenies. I would be "Happy" to stop.

Your childish desire to trivailize the senseless, daily and long-lasting stupidity of the Bush administration aside for the moment, I think you've utterly failed to make any point whatsoever. The fact of the matter is that 4-1/2 years after leaving office, George W Bush remains reviled as a incompetent, shallow, and ultimately ineffectual head of the executive branch. I realize that you'd like to try to feel better about supporting him for so long, and long past the time when it was clear that he sucked balls, and that to do so, you'll try to come up with whatever half-assed attempt at a false equivalence you can wrap you lame brain around, but really, pal, it just won't do. It never will. You'll never be good enough to make a decent point here. You just suck. You always have, and you always will. Sorry, but sometimes even though the truth hurts, it needs to be said. Now go make me a sammich, biatch.

Ratings?

Are you talking honest-to-goodness historical rankings by people who know stuff? Or "popularity contests" fueled by billions in advertisements, PR, history rewrites, etc.??? There is a difference....

In terms of historical rankings of Presidents, GW is still falling into the bottom 15 or 20% (average is #34), while Obama is averaging out at #14.

That's the basic difference between success and a miserable failure. I think even GW knows, at this point, how big of a failure he was.

I’m talking about public approval/disapproval ratings.

Now explain how the average historical ranking for presidents can be 34.

Jumping on HJ is fun.

The fact is that the first response to a direct question was an outright lie.

That’s ok… Chuck pointed out that George Bush “remains reviled as an incompetent, shallow, and ultimately ineffectual head of the executive branch”. My point is simply that for all his faults (and for me the biggest was spending) Bush is considered today to be better than Obama, so at least he has that going for him.

If I may interject some reality. 4 ½ years later George Bush’s ratings are better than Barack Obama’s and improving while Obama’s are falling.

Dog doesn't like anecdotal evidence. Unless he agrees with it. Then he likes it just fine.

I'm not disagreeing with you Chuck, Bush does remain reviled bla bla bla... He's just not as bad as Obama in the eyes of the public.

You're hilarious. What next? W is head and shoulders above Hooo-sane with rural, gun-toting, "The South will rise again" types? Hell, even I like George W Bush about 14% better than I did when he left office, for the simple fact that he ain't there anymore. Jeebus, apples and road apples much?

i did a search but i couldn't find a happy jack thread titled "president bush reads to school children as twin towers collapse".

now reading to school children is important, but so is being commander in chief.

Nope but I bet you found plenty where the every trivial event during the Bush years was posted. You can't complain now if you didn't complain then.

Jeebus, you're pathetic. Go nail some malarkey, would ya? Shouldn't be too hard, all you gots to do is look in the mirror to find the biggest most odious hypocrite in your life.

That would be true except for the fact that I have explained the purpose of these trivial sarcastic attacks many times. Of course if you and the rest want to admit you did it endlessly during the Bush administration and that you now understand how silly that was and you are sincerely sorry for being such hypocritical weenies. I would be "Happy" to stop.

without doing the search, i will guess you are correct. however are you not doing the same?

face it happy, you have sold your soul to the devil in your attempts at branding others on this forum as hypocrites because, by doing so, you have become exactly what you have tried to point out.

you pick your side and you defend them to the death, even though they do exactly what you attacked the other side for. of course psychologist have a word for this, splitting.

Completely wrong.....

Neither Bush nor Obama needs to run for anything.

The historians who create these ratings are rarely wrong....it's pretty easy to look at things which happened and weigh them out. Anyone who knows about history could not possibly rate GW as even normal or decent. The only way to do so is current partisan fashion, which does not withstand the test of time.

Consider FDR - often rated one of the top 3 - and sometimes #1. The same Bushwackies of today who miss GW say FDR was one of the worst. But no matter how much they do so, it does not affect his ratings.

BUT, if you want to go to "popularity", check these numbers:

"The new numbers indicate that Obama remains popular, with 79% of Americans saying the president is likable."

That's 2013.....after the "scandals".

Which just goes to show ranking presidents is subjective. Approval/disapproval polls are empirical.

The guy's a failure Craigiri, everything he has done other than authorizing the Bin Laden mission has failed and we are worse off for it. He’s a joke on the international stage and domestically his administration has been shown to be opaque and corrupt. His signature legislative achievement, Ocare, is an unmitigated disaster. Get a grip.

Unless you deny their veracity with quibble over whether or not the sample was representative, eh Poochie? Seems to me you were one of the folks who bought into the right-wing noisemachine's denial of the Romney's impending defeat because there weren't 'enough' Republicans in the polls that were accurate, relative to the Rassmussen, et al's horseshit, let alone WhackJack's deliberate 'pre-processing' nonsense.

I actually see why Glenn Beck, Dr. Sooper Genius, and others are making hay over this. Boiled down, it's the difference between the analog and digital world. They don't understand that Bush et al had access to older types of communication devices that compelled them to use secure devices in specific locations, the handling of urgent problems could not be dealt with any other way.

Since January of 2009, when Obama was gifted with the Sectera Edge Blackberry, secure conversations became a possibility in any location at any time. These devices are now accessible to anyone with enough money to buy them.

Kerry's communications people are trying to avoid negative publicity because these neanderthals still don't understand the world we live in. The people who are trying to make a big deal out of this, are the same people who get nervous when the microwave counts down to zero.

So you are saying they lied to hide the appearance that Kerry was off playing rather than attending to a historic diplomatic event? That was my point.

No, I am saying Kerry and other members of government who own a Sectera Edge Blackberry, can do business anywhere at any time, from the helm of a yacht to a portable toilet. Because there are analog thinkers in our midst, cover needs to be provided for situations that they might not understand.

That's absolutely true. In fact, they have other means of communication.

Why did they decide to lie about it?

Because the mouth breathers might not understand how secure communication works. So we lie to them to make it easier to run the country.

You just don't get it. It was not about where he was at. The issue is the flat out lie hat he was NOT on his boat. Only retracted after a picture was tweeted showing exactly where the SOS was.

That he is never out of touch and can do his job just about anywhere is not the question posed.

The thread started as just another Happy Jackoff festival. It doesn't matter what the guy does. A couple months ago, he was traveling too much. Now he's spending too much time at home. Just more Simple Jack crying because his horse came up lame. Nothing to see here.

. The only aspect of this story was the instant denial that Kerry was on his boat. BL probably is close - they didn't want to give the wrong impression.

As part of the big picture correct a few pixels at best.

Still I get uncomfortable when bald face lies are so easily issued on such a trivial matter

"He's on his boat in Nantucket this weekend, so stop by and wish him a Happy Fourth of July." Not sure we're going to get that in this day and age. Way too many whackos. It would be nice if they could tell us the truth now and again, but I'd rather have them tell us the truth about why the folks who caused our financial crisis are not in jail, than tell us where the Secretary of State is spending the Fourth. If we have some major diplomatic crisis that he might help resolve, that would be different. I don't really think that a military coup in Egypt is something he is going to prevent (nor do I think we should have anything to do with it, including financing it).

Nah, this was something Simple Jack Drudged up to divide Americans.
