      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

VirtualEye has died for me.

Yup same here in Auckland. Was running fine. I cut away for a minute and came back and it told me "No race scheduled today"!

It is not really a race with ETNZ so clearly in the lead, so VE is right.

I shouldn't have written it!!!

But it's still no race, just the other way around.

Well, interesting, 1st two races impacted by mechanical failures. Would LR have been able to beat ETNZ after ETNZ's nose-dive in the 1st race, or could they have retained the lead they likely would have had. This series could very easily be with LR up 2-0. I know, lots of IFs, but still.

Just shows no one is going to win in straight races in this regatta. They've all pushed so close to the limit everyone will have issues. 4 problems in 2 days on three different boats.

I'm so glad for LR to take a point off ETNZ - don't care how they do it. Hope they can get it sorted before the next race.

By the way, I'm not at all happy ETNZ lost a race due to equip failure. That said, it certainly makes the series a lot more interesting.

How did LR look sailing? How were their jybes? Was LR or ETNZ winning upwind?

ETNZ had absolutely smoking VMG upwind.

The LVC Finals have come alive, especially if ETNZ races race 3 and can't finish to let LR go 2-1.

How did LR look sailing? How were their jybes? Was LR or ETNZ winning upwind?

ETNZ looked like they were sitting between 23-25knots boatspeed uphill consistently, leeward hull looked like it was lift off slightly at times as well.

Light fog in San Francisco. Good starts by both boats. In the closing seconds Deano on port crossed starboard tack ROW boat LR and tacked. They went to the line together with ETNZ accelerating rapidly. Hit 40 knots just after starting. Still relatively close as they rounded Mark 1. Then ETNZ sailed slightly deeper and faster. LR was first to gybe as they neared the boundary. ETNZ deeper, and slowly pulling away was able to hang on for precious metres and seconds before they gybed.

But the wind is building, could cause a postponement.

But worse ..... TVNZ has reverted to its vacuous Breakfast Show. Talk about death by a thousand cuts.

So, what happens if they have a problem with the Hydraulics downwind? Do they lose control? Can they head up and into the wind, or do they need daggerboard control to do that?

Valuable input from TV1 Breakfast Show. The problem is fixed. It was "just one of those things."

Now we've gone to commercial!

They said they wanted it to be more like the F1.

The top teams usually win or lose because of equipment failure.

But it is still pretty much a parade until that failure. Exciting parade, even with the absence of tacktics, though

Luna Rossa helmsman Chris Draper did a nice job in the pre-start to get a fairly even start against Emirates Team New Zealand. But the Kiwis were to windward and literally took off, popping up onto their foils to open a 10-second lead at the first mark.

Emirates Team New Zealand sailed lower and faster than Luna Rossa on the first run and stretched its 10-second lead to 23 seconds at the leeward gate. Lower and faster "is a real good combination when you're trying to win a sailboat race," said announcer Ken Read.

Yeah there was a point they were banging along at 25+ on a pretty normal bearing with most of the leeward hull out, a little while later if the on screen graphics are to be believed they were doing 22 knots only 30 degrees off the wing! That is some serious climbing uphill.

Joke.

Ken Read saying how its a classic SF Bay day, and Jobson jumps in and says how they should be sailing an Etchells as its a really nice day.

Don't know if they turned his mike off or not, but they might have to Rule 60 Jobson and finally get him off the commentary!

No more race today. That's exactly the situation that should have been avoided by introducing the AC72s. Unsatisfactory.

From what I read yesterday you have to change a setting so it thinks you're in the UK/Canada anywhere but the US

Maybe this is OR's strategy? Wind limits so low that the challenger series won't finish till September 7th giving them no time to prepare

Have you pushed the little Red button (upper left corner of the screen) and seen it change to green. You are only in proxy mode when that button is green. Also, in the options screen you DO NOT want to choose the USA option - pick the UK or random options.

gutted, i was pretty excited about the LVC finals but rather than having 4 races by now we havent had 1 with both boats finishing. ok so we can't really control the breakdown problem but the wind limit thing is getting silly, surely they need to either adjust the limits, how they are measured or the timing of the starts, why now bring it forward an hour.
