who commits more gun crime, liberals or conservatives?

Recommended Posts

Well, given that the majority of the murders in the US (VAST MAJORITY) are commited in the inner city urban areas - I think they are likely firmly blue voters.

Thanks Obama!

Red states or blue states?

SStates with higher estimated rates of gun ownership experience a higher number of firearms-related homicides, according to new research. The study, published in the American Journal of Public Heath, examines the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) claim that increased gun ownership does not lead to increased gun violence.

It is the largest study conducted to date into the correlation between gun ownership and firearms violence, and the first to comprehensively examine the issue since the tragic shooting last December of 20 children and 7 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

RELATED: 19 UNBELIEVABLE FACTS ABOUT GUNS IN AMERICA

Covering 30 years (1981-2010) in all 50 states, the report shows a “robust correlation” between estimated levels of gun ownership and actual gun homicides at the state level, even when controlling for factors typically associated with homicides. For each 1 percentage point increase in the prevalence of gun ownership, the state firearm homicide rate increases by 0.9 percent, the authors found.

“Understanding the relationship between the prevalence of gun ownership and therefore the availability of guns, and firearm-related mortality is critical to guiding decisions regarding recently proposed measures to address firearm violence,” the study authors say.

The question posed was “who commits the most gun crime, liberals or conservatives” not which states have the highest gun crime rate. It is a loaded question because political leaning is not necessarily related to propensity toward violence but that said, most of the gun crime occurs in blue states.

I am not arguing that more guns makes things safer, and I am not arguing that banning guns makes things safer, but I just have to say I am sick and tired of twisted reports like this coming from both sides. Talking about homicides by gun, as this article does, and then showing a report that includes suicides is intentional deception. It is why people start to tune everything out, and not believe anything that comes out of any "journalism". The NRA does it too, I am not blind to that, but the point is that we are at a point where nobody is willing to even report or discuss actual reality, it is a battle of lies and bullshit that we are fighting. It seems to me that crime is higher where people are poverty is highest, and that people who are poor in rich fulfilling personal relationships commit suicide at a disproportional rate, of course that is just based on my observations since I don't trust any of the reporting either.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

In this case, we have a problem with violence against others. Yes, guns make that deadly but it does not reduce the violence.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now we can all go back to assuming mass shooters are all right wing rednecks.

Personally, I still favor the concept that it is the weapon itself which causes these tragedies. The pure awe of a scary looking gun is too much for anyone to resist - regardless of political leanings..

As far as mass shootings are concerned, there are 12 on that list... Since 1982, there have been over 60 mass shootings in the US...

So, regarding either mass shootings in America, or gun crime in general since 1863, what majority is the majority of those 18 crimes supposed to represent?

Oh no!! Take away all the "scary black guns"!!! LOL! Turns out my Mini 14 doesn't have to be registered with state of CT, only the ones with collapsable stock. But the 20 shot mag does.

If that study is to be beleived, it is most definitely RED states in the top 10 for gun violence.

Really, you should look at murder rate as a factor of the population, but you knew that already and posted raw numbers so as to skew the conclusion of the reader.

So how did Illinois not make the list with Chicago being the murder city and all? And Florida not there either? Too many old people? Not enough guns? Lousy marksmanship? So many questions, such a stupid thread.

Gun related murders by state 2012 top 5

California 1220

Texas 699

Pennsylvania 470

Michigan 450

New York 445

That list does not even include all 50 states.

Really, you should look at murder rate as a factor of the population, but you knew that already and posted raw numbers so as to skew the conclusion of the reader.

You should look at the question posed. It is "Who commits more gun crime, liberals or conservatives?"

I had always wondered whether "more" definitively meant absolute numbers rather than per capita numbers and now I know.

lies, damn lies and statistics. Especially conservative statistics, which we know are more likely to make your brain hurt.

Yes, because liberals have such a high ground when it comes to not using misleading statistics.

Let's see some more graphs on "gun-related" murders.

Saw this on face creep this morning.

In 1863 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.

In 1881 a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States, who later died from the wound.

In 1963 a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States.

In 1975 a le...ft wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States.

In 1983 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States.

In 1984 James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.

In 1986 Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.

In 1990 James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.

In 1991 George Hennard, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 23 people in a Luby's cafeteria.

In 1995 James Daniel Simpson, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.

In 1999 Larry Asbrook, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 8 people at a church service.

In 2001 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the US.

In 2003 Douglas Williams, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.

In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung - Hui Cho, shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech.

In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner, shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.

In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes, went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.

In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis.

In 2013 a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people in a school.

One could go on, but you get the point, even if the media does not. Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns.

Well, if it's on Facebook, it must be true...

http://www.examiner.com/article/the-idea-that-recent-mass-shooters-are-mostly-registered-democrats-is-a-myth

So other then the 5 questioned in the articles you posted. Are you not disputing the majority of the list then?

As far as mass shootings are concerned, there are 12 on that list... Since 1982, there have been over 60 mass shootings in the US...

So, regarding either mass shootings in America, or gun crime in general since 1863, what majority is the majority of those 18 crimes supposed to represent?

a greater majority then the 5 you posted about

Funny how the author automatically equates White supremacists with the Republican party when history doesn't support that notion. Left wing bias does

Funny how you imagine that the author automatically equates White Supremacy with the Republican Party...

Interestingly, Hedgecock and those on the far right have conveniently overlooked a number of cases where ideology is clearly right-wing. The acts below are instances of right-wing violence that are unequivocally committed by people who are openly hostile to liberalism. While this does not mean these killers are Republicans, it is quite clear that they are RIGHT-WINGERS and that they have far more in common with Mr. Hedgecock, Alex Jones and the other gun-toting conspiracy nuts on the right than with any evils associated with the Democratic Party or liberalism.

Top 10 states for gun violence

Georgia

Arkansas

New Mexico

South Carolina

Mississippi

Arizona

Alabama

Alaska

Louisiana http://247wallst.com/special-report/2013/04/15/states-with-the-most-gun-violence/3/

How many of these states voted for Obama?

Its very disengenuous and misleading to do that by state and then try to assign a red or blue label to it. In EVERYONE of those RED states, I'm betting the vast majority of those murders stats comes from an urban inner city which likely overwhelmingly votes Blue. Try this instead:

Atlanta

Albuquerque

Columbia

Jackson

New Orleans

Phoenix/Tuscon

AR and AK seems to be the outlier

The gun violence stats - if you did it by county - would likely look very close to this one where there's blue:

county-by-county.jpg

I'm certainly not implying causality - but I would be shocked if there wasn't a pretty strong correlation there to that map above.

This is pretty close to what I was trying to say in the above post. Compare this to the electoral map above and there are some striking similarities.
