      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

The wind forecasts seem good for racing. Some are predicting really light winds <10kts, others in the mid range 12-16 and non in the upper range.

does anyone have the forecast from WRAMS?

They were expecting mid range winds today and they were still up there. so if they say 10 knots i am betting 14-15. In any event i think it will be game over tomorrow, fingers crossed.

This is our time...it's been 10.5 years since we had the cup. Its been a lot of hardship and struggle over a decade.let's hope we finish it tomorrow. Perfect timing..Friday night party time in Auckland.

Will we become the most successful "team" in AC history if we win?.

As a Kiwi I'm hopeful of 2 things tomorrow:

1/ That ETNZ wins. They've worked hard, designed and built a helluva boat, played well, and deserve a win and a f*ckin good pissup.

2/ That Kiwis everywhere are good winners. There's a big difference between giving any Aussie or Yanks you see a bit of shit, and being an asshole.

3/ I'd love to finally find out why GD has a beef with PJ Montgomery.

Now if you'll excuse me I've got unfinished work with my JS voodoo doll.

What do people think OTUSAs tactics will be ?

Stay away from ETNZ & try to win the start cleanly and then stay ahead or will JS go protest hunting?

Equally, what will ETNZ do? They've shown they can mix it at the pre-start & come out on top and yesterdays ignore OR, time-on-distance run to the line before the aborted Race 12 was really something to see.

Thoughts?

does anyone have the forecast from WRAMS?

Mmmm... Now I feel a bit stupid. Just found the "customize" button in the top right corner in SailFlow. There's a bunch of models to choose from, WRAMS among others.

All models except WRAMS predict light winds around 10 knots or less. WRAMS is giving significantly higher numbers, high teens to low 20's (for the second race).

I was under the impression OR had port again tomorrow so I can't see much change in tactics, protect the leeward position and try the wild swerve for a penalty if Aotearoa comes close enough.

Let's hope JS set's up slightly higher to protect the windward end, and DB just rips past him to leeward :)

NYYC is the most successful Club in AC history. However they had a large range of defenders during its reign. I'm doubtful as to whether you could call Dennis Conner's four wins a team. TNZ on the other hand have been pretty constant from their start in 1993. However it's a pretty poor metric in my opinion.

Still want to see ETNZ win though.

The rooster may well be a bit twitchy. Actually what I wouldn't be surprised to see would be Aotearoa get closer to the entry time to squeeze a little.

This thing ends today...

I thought that with all their resources OR would catch up (and they have, but way too late), but ETNZ deserve to win, they have produced an expertly run and pretty sure footed campaign (apart from one nose-dive and a near capsize!)

looking super light today!!!!

You know I love the light wind races - lots of lead changes!

How light are we talking?

If it's <7kts we're into Code 0 territory aren't we?

Does that mean that if OR haven't replaced their bowsprit in anticipation of a v light wind race they are truly screwed before they even get on the water?

3/ I'd love to finally find out why GD has a beef with PJ Montgomery.

During a Whitbread race Grant (on Endeavour) was match-racing Blake et al up Auckland harbour.

PJ said what some people considered derogatory things about Dalts.

However, who knows what will happen if the AC lands in Aotearoa.

I personally very much like the PJ style of commentating. And I also like PJ as a person.

Hands you a calculator....1 knot (kt) = 1.1507794 miles per hour (mph) or 1 mile per hour (mph) = .8689762 knot (kt)

If Race 1 is in the teens, there won't be a race 2.

If it's in the single digits, we're entering new territory yet again. But if there is a race 2, I assume the wind by then will be up to ETNZ's sweet spot.

Hard to see this lasting past today.

Good luck to all.

I have not read enough of this stuff to know the basis for this. I have seen however a number of very offensive references to bestiality (a dated and very pathetic Australian attempt at humour.) There have also been other aggressive remarks by Americans not just to Kiwis. Some of that seems a style thing - a product of internet anonymity and quite common on SA.

The majority of NZers are not brash rather unassuming. They do tend to an unusual nationalism in sporting contests.

I would hope and expect that most would be gracious if enthusiastic winners.

It is a pity you feel the way you do, but with all due respect you are overgeneralising rather.

Well . . . This is likely it, the last day of racing. Then the long wait begins anew, 3 or 4 years of waiting. I wish they could pull these off a bit more frequently.

It's been fun, the AC Final has turned out far better than I expected. Too bad the LVC was such a clusterfuck with too few teams and too many 1 boat "races".

Dalton doesn't have a beef with PJ - it's the other way around, and it's because PJ is BFF with Coutts. PJ ran his mouth at ETNZ during the 2003 fateful defence and the 2007 near-miss, with a hard-on for Coutts and Alinghi.

To be fair, both extremes of each supporter base have been pretty intolerable this go round (including our countrymen). I think if you exclude the vocal few from each side, you'll find most of the posters here (including the majority of the Kiwis) are fairly well-balanced and pleasant.

I still maintain, however, that this edition is nowhere near as bad as AC33 where shit got nasty on this board.

More importantly, if you let the actions of a few anonymous posters on an internet forum influence your buying decisions then we may have deeper issues to deal with ...
