      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Barn Find

Recommended Posts

Found on CL just north of Denver. A guy had the task of cleaning out a deceased friends barn and he ran across a boat.

I went and looked at it, been sitting since 1989. Had some issues but nothing too daunting. His ad said any offer, so I did, and got it for a song. Of course all the running rigging needs replaced but the standing looks very good, the sails are decent just need cleaning and all the cushions are there and in great shape. Centerboard, hinge, rudder and tiller look great.

There was one issue discovered cleaning it out. There had obvioously been water in the boat. Turns out the drain hose from the cockpit scupper to the drain was split open. getting to it will be a major bitch

This will keep me busy till find our next cruiser.

What are the things where a winch should be? Does anybody know if the small jib tracks are not original?

$

A hell of a lot less then others are going for.

Maybe we should put in at SC and beach it a Charley's Rock? Or the palapa bar at Catch 22?

So what is it? t's not a Buccaneer. Didn't AMC make boats like that?

So, it looks like a Gremlin to you? I think you meant AMF, and I truly wish you meant AMF in the purest form to all of us.

(PS, Chrysler made some sailboats but was never a part of AMC)

When I lived in Hawaii I owned an AMC Javelin. It had water in it too.

Funny you mention that----I just sold a B/Warner M-12 three speed auto tranny to a guy who fried his in his Javvy doing 145 at his local drag strip. And he didn't even care when I told him it came out of a '70 TravelAll....

Chris Craft made some awesome sailboats, S&S IIRC and built pretty well (I remember a goofy smaller boat, Motorsailer, a nice 37' and 42' Commanche?). As a footnote, the Chris Craft Factory in Holland, MI became the birthplace of S2 Sailboats and produced very nice boats.

Jesus that is one brand that thankfully my mind has forgotten about. The oday 40 was the pinnacle of bad yacht design.

Correct on the amf though some refer to it as the amc (see paceship). I think amf was a sister company to amc?

The smaller O'day's were fine for what they were but the winnebgo larger designs not so much. In that size though I would have gone for an ensign or a flying Scott....

Congrats on your new boat.

I showed my 14 year old son a photo of it and he thought it was 'way sick' and said what did you sell it for? I could hardly tell him i got a rib dinner and a bag of pot! Of course that was 1981, when I was young and irresponsible....

Actually 1000 plus miles at the age of 17-18 in a valiant 40. With an additional delivery outside from lauderdale to Tampa but who's counting..

Hope the oday isn't based out of dillon cause there's a nice little ensign fleet there

I like the Javelin, it's one of the more underrated cars of the 1970s.

Indeed it wasn't. Oddly enough there were heaps of wild wallabies on the windward side of the island in those days. They escaped from someone's property and breed like crazy. Didn't bone any though. Not when there were so many American girls 'who just luvved mai accent' that's how I met your mother.

LB has been a little tense at everyone lately.

Mid-life crisis, erectile dysfunction and the wife is hitting menopause.

From what I understand he's considering a getting a tat, signing up with Greenpeace and becoming a neo-vegan.

Nothing like re-inventing ones self.

No I am not man tough enough to get a tat or join Greenpeace. I could probably stand the pain of getting inked but when you join Greenpeace they drill that hole in the side of your head and pull half your brain out.

You seem a little testy though. Did you get a bad bit of Tofu?

Tofu or Greenpeace? There is a protest planed for our marina this morning because the owner wants to cut down two trees that drop shit on the boats in the yard. Should be quite a hoot. Normal bullshit about 'rich boat owners' not careing for the environment. As this particular marina is the 4 knot shitbox capital of south east Queensland most of the protestors cheese cloth shirts and beads are worth more than any boat in the yard.

Both.

Same problem here with dredging. Got to complete a farking impact assessment report then undertaken exploratory sediment coring (~6-9 months + $$$) just to lodge an application with GBRMPA to dredge the 500m channel to the marina. Looks like this will take 18-24 months and cost 5x what it should, just because sediment will be re-suspended during dredging activities.
