I worked on a big motoryacht design with a Florida based NA who had done several designs for one of the Hong Kong yards. The new boat was being debuted at the Ft Lauderdale show and he wanted to give me the tour and also meet the owner of the yard. During the whole time we had worked together on the boat the NA had repeatedly referred to the Chinese yard owner as 'Butt Yank' during phone calls! I thought that was pretty out of character for the NA who otherwise seemed to be a real gentleman. I gathered from this nickname the yard owner was hard to please or jerked the designer around in the past. Imagine my horror when after stepping down off the boat there was the Chinese yard owner smiling and the NA walked up and shook his hand and turned to me and introduced me and then called the man 'Butt Yank' right to his face.

It turned out that the pronunciation of his name sounded just like my phonetic spelling 'Butt Yank'. I still had a hard time addressing him by name...

45 and partly sunny now in SE CT; 55 and 100% precip chance tomorrow. Maybe Global Warming is not such a bad thing for we folks who don't like to freeze our balls off in the formerly cold New England winter???

Well, yeah. Wearing shorts, sweatshirt, and Crocs with socks. You know, winter clothing. So legs were the part that got cold.

Comin' back across the Bay Bridge last night, it was blowing like stink - felt like the car was gonna go sailing off the peak of the bridge. Went to southern Dorchester county - the wind had pushed lots of water in, many of the roads below Church Creek were underwater.

Did you have to send down a blast of cold in advance of your arrival? Had to bring all the orchids inside yesterday, back out for water today, then back in tonight. They don't like being in a heated house at all. I'm sending you a bill! :P

Oh don't worry, this "cold snap" as its being called will go away soon. But it is comedic watching these native Floridians (we moved down here from the PNW) treat 40 degree weather like its a blizzard. Boots with fur, hoodies with the hoods up, the weird looks I get when I'm still in t-shirt, shorts and flip flops....its great.

28ºF here today. Can't complain one bit for January 25th, it could easily be that on the other side of zero this time of year. This has been the easiest winter I can ever remember. I don't know if we've had any days below zero even.

Dude! Any place that you're ecstatic that its only 28F is just wrong! If it gets below about 28C here, I'm putting long sleeves on and maybe getting out the fleece.

Preaching to the choir there. I kicked around moving five years ago. I didn't have much going on or to really even live for, but now I'm married and the business is kicking ass. I don't think I could start the cabinet shop over again. Too fucking hard developing the contacts and pushing people out of the way to steal their customers.

Summers here are glorious. All three days of it...

Ha, he was walking around here last night. Imagine if you will a long beach with side by side condos as far as the eye can see. Each one filled with well aged people sitting out on the patio waiting for sunset. Along comes Florida man in all his glory, top hat, skull covered top coat and a fox tail hanging on his backside. Strips down and takes his monthly bath in the gulf. On shore all the seniors were staring, like a mob of meerkats watching a predator. Funny as hell.

BTW hanging out in SW FL makes me feel young, like when we visit the mother-in-law at the Lawrence Welk Village in Escondido.

Doing a 4 day regatta. Sunshine but its chilly. Low 70's. Winds in the 15+ range - absolutely perfect sailing conditions. I made the mistake yesterday on the 4th race to give my bowman a chance to drive and I did foredeck. Took a big wave over the bow and I got soaked. Bastid! and the water was cold. I'm convinced he did that on purpose since my crew always block the waves for me and he wanted to give me a taste. I may have to wear a spray top today with shorts.

This time last year the Great Lakes were almost 90% frozen over. Mid thirties and sunny is like a heat wave compared that that shit. Was tempted to throw my powerboat in the water last week..

Temperature highs across San Diego County could reach highest in nation

Posted: Feb 10, 2016 6:44 AM PST Updated: Feb 10, 2016 6:44 AM PST

By Benjamin Kupferman

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) - Unseasonably warm weather and potentially record-setting high temperatures are expected in San Diego County again Wednesday and into next week as a ridge of high pressure remains in place over the region.

On Tuesday, high temperatures crushed records across the county. A high of 89 degrees in Vista topped the previous record set three years ago of 81 degrees, an 83-degree high in San Diego was 6 degrees above the prior record from 2008 and a 91-degree day in El Cajon soared over a decade old record of 86 degrees. Highs of 89 degrees in both Chula Vista and Escondido pushed past records of 83 and 86 degrees, set in 1954 and 1991, respectively. A maximum temperature of 85 degrees in Ramona was 2 degrees over the previous record, set in 1988, and a prior record of 82 degrees in Alpine, set in 1991, was topped by 1 degree, all according to the National Weather Service.

These summer-like conditions are expected to persist throughout San Diego County Wednesday and beyond. High temperatures were predicted to be 79 to 84 degrees near the coast, 84 to 89 degrees inland, 86 to 91 degrees in the western valleys, 82 to 87 degrees near the foothills, 72 to 81 degrees in the mountains and 83 to 88 degrees in the deserts.

"A high pressure ridge will continue over California for most of the coming week," according to the weather service. "The offshore flow and associated foothill breezes will be diminished the next few mornings, but the warm and dry air mass will remain in place."

Saturday is expected to be slightly cooler, but the high pressure ridge will rebound Sunday and Monday, again sending the mercury soaring. Forecasters
said temperatures would continue to be "way above average" Wednesday into early next week and they would be "probably recording the highest in the nation."

"Max temps will flirt with a few daily records Wednesday, Thursday and Monday," according to the weather service.

More seasonable conditions and a slight chance of rain are expected to return Wednesday of next week, according to the NWS.
