      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

If they can tack through those angles and maintain those speeds then they have jumped ship onto a foiling wing-sailed multihull.

Just about done so it gets down to how long MC needs for the last 460 miles? Give or take they are very close to a 24 hour better time than the record and over 6 days or thereabouts that's almost nudging 17% which is nothing to sneeze at especially given the extra 40 feet MC had.. Well done Comanche. The TA and the fastest 24 hour run..!

Trackball. Funny to note that the only bits of wood on the boat are the wooden Comanche nameplate, and the borders of the mousepad, both at the nav station.

Does he use a mouse instead of a trackball ? anytime I have a mouse at the nav station it flys off at every bounce or heel. Can't tell if that is a trackball

Well done Comanche!

But oh, the good old days.

The yacht "Atlantic"

She held the record from 1905 - 1980, with an average VMG of 10.2 knots. Seems almost too easy these days!

I know that Charlie Barr, the Captain of the ATLANTIC was famous for pushing those Norwegian crew and the schooner hard, in that photo it looks like they have driven her right under!

That photo must have now completely uploaded, as I can see the whole boat. The hull was missing at first.

Here is what those long stormy nights on Atlantic record attempt can do to guy...

Those numbers came straight from the yellow brick tracker, so if they are wrong, the tracker is wrong, not me. Why don't you enlighten us with your genius if you dispute them. Or are you just a WANKER?

Are you daft. They broke the record by more than 24 hrs. The Aussie on the boat by all accounts gave pedicures and polished shoes. Get a life.

Have a look at the crew list idiot 4 Aussies. More Aussies than Americans.

Casey Smith (AUS), Boat Captain

Stan Honey (USA), Navigator

Tony Mutter (NZL), Trimmer

Dirk de Ridder (NED), Main Trim

Chris Maxted (AUS), Boat Crew

Jon von Schwarz (USA), Grinder

Juggy Clougher (AUS), Bow

Julien Cressant (FRA), Pit

Nick Dana (USA), Bow

Pablo Arrarte (ESP), Runners

Pepe Ribes (ESP), Bow

Peter van Niekerk (NED), Trimmer

Phil Harmer (AUS), Grinder

Richard Clarke (CAN), Runners

Robert Greenhalgh (GBR), Main Trim

Shannon Falcone (ATG), Grinder

Yann Riou (FRA), Media

Seeing as though the highest number of crew are Aussie, the boat is 50% owned by an Aussie & the boat is registered in the British empire I reckon we can just call this a win for Australian Yachting. Everyone agree?

Hook. Line. Sinker.

But Kristy is half owner right, so 50-70% of the budget is hers + I didn't hear about the American owner giving the skipper any 'bonuses' either, just the Australian.

So Summarising Comanche broke the record by 1 day and 3 1/2 Hours..! Not bad for a boat giving away 40 feet. But Bruce Kirby says the boat is boring.! Reckon the ride would have been anything other than....

Casey Smith: “What a boat! Now we have got the 24 hours record, the Sydney Hobart, and now the transatlantic. What a boat! Awesome!”

Stan Honey: “There are only about two weather windows a year where a monohull can make it all the way across the Atlantic in one system, and we found one of them. Beating this record by more than a day is above my expectations and I am delighted.”

Tony Mutter: “To achieve something like that, it is important to be fast and reliable. I am happy for all the people involved in this project from the very beginning up to now.”

Richard Clarke: “Delighted. Awesome trip, I have been loving every minute of it. Now I am proud of the accomplishment for the boat and for the team.”

Pablo Arrarte: “I think this is something big. I don’t think anyone will beat it in the near future.”

Shannon Falcone: “This was sort of the Everest of the whole Comanche program, and I am both proud and delighted to be part of it.”

The record continues to illustrate Comanche’s pedigree since the Supermaxi was launched in October 2013. Comanche has taken line honors in all races but one entered and currently holds four ocean

The only other manual winch record people care about is the transpac. Will the Indian be going surfing next year or will it be "tick job done lets get rid off this crap off the deck"?

Are we sure this isn't a powered winch record? Strangely, their 'race record' now says it was set using powered winches, I am pretty sure that is what rule 21.c means. I didn't realize Newport Bermuda allowed powered systems.

Firstly, we never ran anything about adultery, though we did link to stories by other publications about that. We heard rumors, we asked the parties, and we ran the response we got from Clark. Secondly, if I'm cut off from Comanche that's because no one is working on it. Many of the guy on the boat are friends and will be friends regardless of what happens with any billionaire or program manager, and if they get new guys, some of those will be our friends, too. Thirdly, always remember this about pro sailors: Today they are with Comanche, tomorrow they are with Ran, the next day they are with Wild Oats.

But many of them have been with SA for 15 years.

I'm sorry Clean but I don't buy that- if that was the case would there have been total radio silence on them breaking the TransAt record?

Forgive me if I am wrong but I saw nothing about it on the front page of SA.

that would be sad if they didn't publicize the trans - atlantic record . probably one of the biggest things to happen at the time in the sailing world . iirc it was almost 24 hours faster. maybe because it wasn't a multi ? and the " offender " wasn't even on board .

Putting aside all this bullshit Comanche has been a revelation IMO unlike Bruce Kirby's negative opinion. To knock 24 Hours off the record is a massive achievement. I think it will stand for a while. The next boat to beat this will most likely be a foiler of some description. Kudos where it is deserved.

neither the ed or me put much stock in a boat 'setting a record' that was beaten more than a decade ago in a smaller, lighter, cheaper boat with a quarter of the crew

Personally I put a lot of value in outright records, gender records, and in-race records. No time for in-class ones like mono, powered, sub-xx feet, etc.
