On a personal note, it is very sad to report that our good friend and long term BAMA member and officer Randy Devol has crossed the bar. It's hard to believe he's gone.
Randall Putnam Devol (Randy)
June 2, 1957 – Nov. 22, 2015
Resident of Mountain View
Randy passed away peacefully on 11/22/15 at El Camino Hospital. Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy of 21 years; daughter Nicole Devol; Mother, Shirley Devol; sister Sharon Devol, stepsons Samuel (Maria) Nicol, and Jacob (Alexis) Nicol; step granddaughter, Marley Nicol and step grandson, Sammy Nicol.
Randy is the "behind the scenes" man with many hats. He has served as Race Coordinator and Co/Chairman for BAMA and has run the Double Handed Farallones Race for approximately 14 years. Randy has raced the Hobie Cat Trifoiler, Blade Runner, the F-24 Mk I, Joint Venture and the F-31, Joint Venture.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.

Thanks Sally and company for the Silver Lining

From NCORC friends specifically OYRA Andy:

Hi all,

Sally Honey along with many folks that moderate Safety at Sea seminars put together a great textbook for safety at sea.

Safety at Sea Core Topics Handbook

It started as a US Sailing project but US Sailing went off in the direction of videos so Sally finished it on her own with the help of many folks she lists in the credits.

Sally is allowing us to use it freely, but asks that anyone who prints a copy donate $5 to US Sailing to help support future projects of this nature.

Enjoy.

Andy

CAL40 need one more again. Is a CAL39 similar enough?

They rate pretty close but I don't have a feel for whether one or the other feels the ratings are really that close. CAL 40 had 5 boats but one needed to drop out and the Honeys are cruising in Mexico.

We'll have to see other entries next week and decide. Nice division now

https://www.jibeset.net/entrylist.ph...333093&SORT=df

We really want the Moores to get one moore boat too.

The Express 27 have 7 (so far) !

Weather looking nice too http://www.myforecast.com/bin/expand...6&metric=false

Early discount ends March 20th

SAS not required but recommended. Required readings online - no fee - for skipper and crew (pg 4 NOR/SI for list o' links). http://www.latitude38.com/lectronic/...6-03-14#Story4

Interesting that Mas entered as a Moore 24, we are set up in PHRF configuration not class set up. We have some different downwind sails that are not class legal.

I will not be on the boat, my second son was born this week. So Mark might race with the class sails and be class legal.

Thanks. You'll note he's not approved..waiting on PHRF cert. He's been upfront with us and YRA and I pulled Karl into it. Just because the boats are alike, no reason they need to rate the same to race together? I'll have to look to the archives..one of the many times to miss Randy.

Ok- out of 66 or so entries, 57 starters after a 2 hr no wind delay.

Once started some boats elected to picnic in the bay and retire. Out the gate into the ocean, boats began retiring for equipment, wind , and bumpy seas and windin the mid+ 20

Well now! That was one sporty day on the Gulf of the Farallones, wasn't it? Certainly one of the breezier roundings of Bird Shit Rock that I've done. In awe of the amazing Moore 24. How the @!*k do those things handle 10-12 foot seas, 22-28 knots of wind, without reefing, and yet, consistently sail to weather over 6 knots???? Blows my mind. What was real trippy was how much windier it got after we got around the rock. Shook out the second reef, unfurled the headsail to the maximum 107%, 95 degree AWA, and rarely saw less that 9.5 knots of boat speed. Then the wind really came up- averaged 27-28 TWS all the way in- had to roll the jib back up to smallest size, and we still experienced something like a dozen round-ups as 30-32 knot gusts hit us. Fucking-A! We hit speeds of 15 knots+ dozens of times, top boat speed was 17.7 knots. Best of all- I don't think anything broke. I am sore as shit this morning.

oops..the 8th is also the Awards for 3BF.
Considering several ways to make this work, it seems the best alternative would be to move it back a week to Wed Feb 15th -everything else the same.
We will also use this as a pre-skippers meeting for the 38th DHF (and DHWB, DHG7, DHBL) race(s) on March 18th 2017. See Story http://www.latitude38.com/lectronic/lectronicday.lasso?date=2017-02-03#Story4
Any conflicts with the Wed Feb 15th date?
Also curious if everyone who raced received the original announcement email from jibeset
