      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

      Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

I haven't read the entire thread, but the Soverel 27 I crew on is excellent in light air, especially coupled with flat water.  The 32 is also quite good.

Quite a few Sov 33s (or at least there was) in PNW.  Sov 27 or 30?  Not so much.  

I don't think I have seen either one in the flesh around here.

There was a very nice Hotfoot 27 in Van advertised on CL at a reasonable price.  But I just noticed the ad has been deleted, so may be sold.  If so it was on the market for less than a week.

yes its cored, and has a partial blister job done. 

Really great boat, but it may have had its day.

We sail/race the Olson 29 in light air with 3 or 4; daysail singlehanded or two of us. An O30 would be a killer light air racer/camper cruiser for you.

I'm going to agree with a 2016 post - J22 is the best option I can think of,( although I'm not familiar wth every West Coast boat ), but cheap, flies in the light stuff, EASY to sail fast, cheap , did I say cheap - $8K will get you a very servicable one and PHRF is 185 I think with Genoa  which is for between 5-10 kts..

My Ranger 22 is a great light air boat (probably even better once I figure out what I'm doing).   3 person crew is optimal, double handing is not to big a challenge.

Is that the old Moisture Missile? I don't think there are too many Soverel 33s that use an outboard engine

Shucks, the pics in the ad -look- clapped-out. I'm guessing this boat hasn't sailed in a long time and would take a heck of a lot of $$ and work to make it sail again. But the Soverel is an awesome boat, great in light air. But I think the OP was looking for a boat to sail with 2 or 3 and that's not this one (at least, not racing).

J22 is a good pic for that, though.

As old Etchells are very inexpensive, and the hull is not cored so not much to go wrong. 

Add a 150 reaching jib and possibly a big assmy mast head kite tacked to the bow.

What do you think? Has anyone ever Turbo-ed and Etchells?

Get a STAR. You won't need  to turbo anything on it. It's an absolute PHRF killer in anything under 8 knots.

You're kidding right?  Never sailed one, but I've been told they don't ever fly kites?  If true, your statement doesn't ring true......

No, he's right. The Star is a light-air ass-kicker. Ever had so little wind that a spinnaker just hangs there but the jib will stay full?

BTW I agree the Etchells is awesome in 8 knots of wind, but I have found it not so great in 3 ~ 4 kt.

Go sail a Star, they do just fine with a poled out jib.

I had a S33 in San Diego and racing in -light wind- with 3 would definitely be do-able.  I've done it with just 2.  Just pretend you're on a big dinghy.  Bump the wind up to 15+ and then yes, you'd definitely want some meat on the rail for racing.  But I sailed my S33 from Monterey to San Diego, around Pt. Conception with 30-35 kts of wind and just 2 guys.  No chute, reefed main and #3, but we were surfing at 15+ knots and having a blast.

I agree, still be able to handle heavier wind.

I have a same question. They reduced the price big.

looks like "Ocean Magic"( was in Montana and big price reduction.), now different name was gone in very short time when was on the market this year.

I believe there is other one for sale out of Texas, but asking too much for the condition, that boat was out of water for maybe about 5 years without touch. Picture looks fine but don't know how old.

If there were any around here, I might, but there aren't.  And no time to travel looking for one, while working 55 hour weeks, and racing PHRF and one design, between March and December.  Maybe one day I will have the chance.  But at present, Etchells and Atlantics are the only nearby available OD fleets for me, and the Soverel 27 for PHRF, so not complaining for sure!  And, I kind of like flying the kite..

My head still hurts from last time I sailed a star... Yes great in the light air. None around where I am.

looking at O30(s) as well. 

More budget than I wanted.. at this point unless a deal comes up.

There are some O30 for sale At So Cal and No Cal.

One raced Shinglehanded Transpac last year.  I wonder that is stiLl available.
