Face it Eddie, you like fat chick music.

Crap you probably know all the Spice Girl's songs.

BTW, not that you know this, but The Dead have a song for pretty much every occasion and in a very eeeerrily  way would be playing them when some very weird things were happening. Cold Rain and Snow, pretty straight forward for today as the north east is again getting dumped on...... karma for "giving" the world Springsteen no doubt.

Anyhow, they had this habit of dusting off oldies but goodies in precisely the right moment.... like bursting into Fire on the Mountain just as Mount Saint Helens erupted.

They were lucky enough that it somehow became essential for acidheads, both real and wannabe, to be Deadheads. A captive uncritical market that stuck around for decades.

I don't know about overrated, most musicians I ever met/worked with considered them a bit of a joke.

Sure Billy, they have a song for every occasion because all they do is play the same song over and over.  Nobody can tell the difference because it is impossible to understand the lyrics, given no one in the band can sing worth a shit.  In addition, most of the audience is tripping or stoned out of their minds, so they can't remember what they heard after the show.  Props to the band for making an entire career on one song.

I have to offer my apologies to Ed Lada. I feel bad for poking fun at you. I now realize your musical acumen is limited and as such you think The Dead play just one song. It is indeed complicated music as noted by many a musician and you can't help the fact that it is beyond your grasp. I think a testament to the respect other performers have for their individual and collective talents can be measured by all of the other great artists who have joined Jerry and the boys on stage.

Many artists have included Grateful Dead music in their sets and some have even taken to writing about their abilities.

"In the 1970s I went to a Grateful Dead show at a community college. I watched the crowd swaying and doing it's trance-dance thing and I stood very outside of it. To me--sober, non-mystical, only half hippie, if that, me - they sounded like a not-very talented bar band. I went home gently mystified. I don't know if they were great but I know the did something great. Years later, when I came to appreciate their subtle musicality, Jerry Garcia's beautifully lyrical guitar playing and the folk purity of their voices, I understood that I missed it. They had a unique ability to build community and sometimes, it ain't what you're doing but what happens while you are doing it that counts."

From Bruce Springsteen's biography.

Sorry Billy boy, but that's what we call damning with faint praise.  "...they sounded like a not-very talented bar band."   "...it ain't what you're doing but what happens while you are doing it that counts."

Hardly what I would call a ringing endorsement for their musical talent.

Nice try though.

Sorry Billy boy, but that's what we call damning with faint praise.  "...they sounded like a not-very talented bar band."   "...it ain't what you're doing but what happens while you are doing it that counts."

Hardly what I would call a ringing endorsement for their musical talent.

Nice try though.

In all fairness, you kinda cherry picked that quote...........

Only a little.

Billy Bob Bastard, I think I get it.  Dead Heads are like baseball fans, you both live for stats because watching it is boring as shit, right?

I'll give ya 2 outta 3. Yes in its earlier renditions was an absolutely fabulously talented band.

The Sister nailed it. Doesn't have to be your cup of tea. The Dead was good to me though. I enjoyed their music. The scene could get trying sometimes.

Hey, don't be hatin' on Polka music.  I grew up on that stuff, all those weddings.  One of my uncle's played in a Polka band.  He played the accordion and Cordovox which was actually one of the earlier electronic keyboards, shaped like an accordion.  The funny thing is, where I live in Poland nobody listens to Polka music, they consider it a Czech thing.
