      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

And in not entirely unrelated news, Marine scientists have observed unusually high levels of stress in the Sunfish population along the Australian East Coast.

Pretty sure that inheritance thing for kids is no longer fashionable.

Not David Dicker? Former owner of Wharro's old green IMS 80'er (renamed Martingale) and the current owner of the canting 50' harbour racer Atomic?

IIRC, when he bought the maxi it underwent a conversion (powered winches etc.) to make it more "user friendly."

Jim Cooney ?

That rumour keeps resurfacing. I'm not connected to the program anymore but someone who is has said it's so far from the truth it's not funny.

With 3 boats over 60 feet already (one picked up just 18 months ago) there's no logical reason for Jim to buy a fourth big boat. He stuck with Brindabella for years (she still has pride of place at the end of A finger), and I think the team has yet to reach the point where it's the boat that is holding them back.

The only reason I could think of him moving on from Maserati would be that the Volvo 70 is too harsh on his knees and back, but is Comanche a more sea kindly boat? I'm not convinced...

Honest question though - I know Adrienne Cahalan compared the motion of a Volvo 70 (Movistar?) to WOXi years ago and said that Oats was much more sea kindly (almost like being on an aircraft carrier), while the 70 routinely tried to kill you.

Being so wide and powerful, would the Indian be a violent boat at sea? I imagine if you're going upwind at 12 or 13 knots in a proper seaway, everyone sitting on the rail at BMAX, heeled over at 20+ degrees and the weather rail is 15 feet off the water she'd be corkscrewing like a b*tch. Or is she heavy enough to behave?

My least fond memory is doing that on Maserati and the transom "flick" as the wave passed under the hull had me cross eyed and just about falling off the wheel. I don't get sick at sea much, but that was a definite "quick, you steer, I've gotta go and... I need to... I think I'm going to... bbbllllleeeeerrrrggggghhhhhh" moment.

Funny place for a Mexican to store his boat!!!!

There is no truth in the rumor that I have chartered it for this weekend's world yachting championship of Morton Bay - The Manly hotel , Saint Helena,  talk it up cup. There is also no truth that those cunts at Wynumm Manly Yacht club won't give me a free nights berth like everyone else and I am fucked if i can work out how to get the fucking rig back in the big 30kt shitbox. I can categorically state that there is no truth in these rumors, as I started them myself.

Wow. Just got the skinny from the Sydney dock rats. You won't belive this...

Harberg has bought the big Indian and it is to be renamed 'Red Jack'. It and BJ 100 will race fully funded, head to head in the Hobart with the winner getting to challenge for the Americas cup. Crews for each boat yet to be announced.

Sid is out of retirement and has teamed up with Sean and bought the old Loyal. It is to be renamed 'Raga-zena' and is having a canting mast and deck fitted.

The Oatly's have commissioned a new boat to be designed jointly by Juan K and the Farr office. Wild Oats XII will be the first FarrK 100 and will be launched in time for the race.

Ragamuffin 100 has gone to Arlie beach where the operator believes the wide beam will give more room for back packers to root each other than on the old 80 foot Maxi Ragamuffin.

CQS has had its entry rejected by the CYC for being too stupid looking.

And Erin Molan has bought WOXI and is entering an all girl crew in this years race. Skippered by Alan Jones the crew includes Kristy Hinze Clark, Kelly Landry, Mercedes Corby and Sophie Monk and is to be named '2UE Sewn Oats'

Well at least that is what I have heard.

Thanks for the update LB 15, good to finally get the low down, was getting bored of the rumour mill and all this makes perfect sense. Will be interesting to see the FarrK 100.

Only things you didn't cover were if multi hulls are allowed this year and what is the forecast?

No rafts allowed and the weather will be nice sometimes and shithouse sometimes.

Do you think that the owners of the super-maxis monitor the gossip and rumours on SA or do they have so much money that they actually have a life? ;)

The new owner of Loyal is an interesting dude. Very down to earth for a $500m tech guy. This Vid is where he was a speaker at a business start up conference some years ago.

His history is both interesting and amusing but if you want to fast forward go to 13 min mark where you will also see his first boat. Don't be surprised if renames Loyal to "Shitbox".

The owners of the top 4 100 footers could not be more different people.

It was at Hammo. Didn't seem to be the boat holding them back. It's never performed well though (has it?).

Bell will have the record for a while at least. One small victory for all the money he hosed away buying, shipping & rebuilding the bow down Juan K beast.

You have to wonder what the cost and conditions would be to charter a 70 million dollar race boat for a week!

I dunno but as a guess, you're going to have to make it attractive to someone that is rich as fuck, but I guess they know each other and JC is probably happy to see it go with someone that will do it justice with a good program, so maybe he gets it fairly cheap, just covering costs?? so costs... boat prep, stepping mast, shit like that, say $100,000? Crew costs, 24 crew, $200/day for lackies, $600/day for skilled, $2000/day for rock stars, so 4 rock stars, 10 skilled, and 10 lackies = $16,000/day in race mode. 10 days of this, $160,000. A bit of delivery crew, logistics of truck down to Hobart, safety gear, $20,000. Then maybe get a new sail or something just to keep North happy, $50,000. All these figures have been plucked out of my arse and I have no idea the real costs but I think if you have to ask you can't afford it...

I am so confused. Hard to keep up with who owns which 100 foot compensater these days. No, the talks have stalled on the 70. They won't pay for the dredging at East Coast marina.

Be a good buy for someone to beat up on non maxi's for the price of a Cookson 50 or TP52. Though, if you don't own a boatyard like Syd, it could add up, will add up!

If that.  I'd imagine that any sail that goes up to the masthead on the Big Injun won't cost less than 6 figures, and that's in USD.
