      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

I always thought Roger Ailes looked unhealthy, I expected to hear that he dropped dead for 15 years or more, so I wonder just how much the Fox scandal shortened his life. We will never hear his side of the story through a book, so I will always wonder if he was a true lecher or just a raunchy grandpa who got pc'd out of existence by opportunists. Whatever else, he was a genius at branding and turning a podunk station into a media empire. We'll have to wait and see how history regards that.

"The 2 most influential people on American culture in the last 20 years  Steve Jobs and Roger Alles"

Before the lefties here, go Nuts that was from MSNBC, this morning , when they first announced his passing.  I believe it was  Chris Mathews and echoed by the whole panel.

Of course, he was on MSNBC for years before Murdock paid him more to create the worst news media source found in the USA.

I feel that way about 9/10's of the 24 cable news machine. I hate MSNBC with the same passion you hate Fox. Funny how people will watch something that is full on shill if they agree with the basic party affiliation. 24/7 cable news on the whole is so far from journalism it should be looked at with the same disdain as fast food and soda pop

Gotta agree.  And, by including those two, it further illustrates that "influential" is not synonymous with "admirable" or "respectable".

Jobs was an asshole, who treated most people like shit, while he was a wizard at innovation and design.

Ailes was an asshole who masterminded a brilliant ploy of dumbing down the discourse and created a media empire that keeps its viewers ignorant.

I would agree with influential, I would also point out that in 1938 Hitler was Man of the Year for Time magazine. Yes, I went there. I also notice that a large number of the very vocal Right live in liberal areas.  You guys really need to come and spend some time amongst the common folk that only watch FOX and/or listen to RW radio.  Liberals have taken the place of the Commies in who to fear and hate. Do the Fox guys and the RW radio guys really believe this or just knowing they have tapped into a gold mine. I have no idea but I do know the chasm created among the people I know.  It sad. bigley.

"Influence" doesn't have to be positive.

And Roger Ailes spend the last half of his life actively dumbing down the American voter to be compliant for the billionaire class, while destroying our ability to have intelligent discourse.

And now all those women will just have to harass themselves now that he's gone.

I don't think ailed did that at all.  I think what you perceive to be specific to Fox News is actually everywhere.  Look around - kardashians, Big Brother,  etc.  Social media is 90% garbage.  People in general simply don't take the time to search all angles and 'sides' anymore.  Quick easy fix is acceptable for most.

Interesting except all your examples are social media, not news.  Surveys have shown that those who get all their news from FOX are less informed than those who don't watch any news at all.  So - are they dumber because they watch FOX or do they watch FOX because they are dumb.  I know very well educated people who only watch FOX news and while not dumb they haven't had an original thought in many years.  What does become annoying very quickly is they are 100% sure that they know everything.

Majority of 'cable news' is nothing more than social media.  It's not one company in particular.

There is very little original thought here in PA.  It's turned into quips.

Since I very rarely watch news, cable or otherwise my knowledge is from others analysis of it.  The point here is the slanted viewpoints on FOX and it's being justified as balancing the liberal media which is just justification for better brainwashing.

What kinds of original thought are you looking for? It's politics and the best results are getting all the facts laid out. Nothing very original about that. Perhaps you are referring to the good old days when Nanny, Jack, White Cracker, and all their ilk just took dumps daily?  Now there was some original shit.

I find it interesting to see how much abject vitriol is being heaped on people simply because you disagree with their politics.  By all accounts, JFK was a womanizer, as were many of his male family members, yet they seem to be held in reverence by many of the folks here who are so gleeful in reading Ailes' obit.

I don't give two shits one way or another about Roger Ailes - he means nothin' to me.  I just find it funny that so many are so happy to see someone suffer/die simply because they are "political opponents".

So there is no difference between a womanizer and a guy who had a career of forcing himself on women? Who used influence and power to do it?  Would you feel differently if your wife or daughter had worked for him?

Do you think that every woman that the Kennedys "entertained" was always completely willing - or given the attitudes of the time, just inclined to not complain?  Do you think that Jackie was OK w/Marilyn?   I don't know.  Did Ailes leave anyone in a car at the bottom of a pond? I don't hear y'all talking about Ted Kennedy the way you are Ailes.

I'm not excusing either behavior, BTW, nor am I defending Ailes - my comment is aimed at the reactions/comments on his passing, which seem to me to be largely based upon partisan rancor.  "If I hate the other guy because of his politics - it's OK to say and do anything" - that's all.

Could it be that the Kennedys have been dead for decades and Ailes died this week? And his deeds seem to be documented not conjecture?  Or is it just getting tough defending the R brand.  Ailes was a pig regardless of his politics.

edit: If you are serious about making this a forum of civil discourse reverting to an equivalence defense isn't helping. just sayin.

Your myopic view of what constitutes civil discourse is expected and duly noted.

It must be hard to convince yourself the shit thrown from those on the right side of the political divide didn't happen.

But, by all means, continue with your defense of the team.  It is consistent.

Bullshit.  I find plenty of fault with "my team" (if you knew my voting record, you'd pass out), and say so when I deem it appropriate.

Yes, I lean left.  I've never denied that, and am certainly not ashamed of that.

That my disgust with things done by Democrats is not as vociferous and complete as yours, does not mean it is absent.  It means you are unable to see anything other than what you want to see.

Thanks for proving my point.  I rarely attack democrats with disgust and vociferous as you claim.  I also have issues with my team and have posted them.  I would guess that You and I are very similar people from the left and right perspective.  My voting record would probably cause you to pass out also.  As to seeing what you want to see.  Pot to kettle

BULLSHIT!

Although I'm repulsed by Ailes as a serial harasser, I've detested him for years before that news came out.

I find what he did with Fox News, and how they used it to intentionally mislead and divide the country to be absolutely disgusting.

Civil discourse on this site means acquiescing  to the "TRUMP and the GOP are evil racist bastards" mantra, as set forth by B J and his ELK.

You support and defend a misogynistic racist regularly.

While you may personally not be racist, you implicitly condone his behavior with your support. Deal with it.

Your myopic view of what constitutes civil discourse is expected and duly noted.

It must be hard to convince yourself the shit thrown from those on the right side of the political divide didn't happen.

But, by all means, continue with your defense of the team.  It is consistent.

You are a perfect example of the new standard of Hypocrisy.  You endlessly defend your team and attack the other side and then have the gall to act as if it's a bad thing when people on the other side, use the same tactics.

It's like the last eight years never happened. Nope, not ONCE has anyone from the right attacked the left. Never happened until now.

More hyperbole from the king of hypocracy

no one ever said the right never attacked the left, but the left has taken it to levels never seen before.      You rant about Ailes destroying the country after you come on this site right after the election spewing your personal discuss and disdain  of anyone that voted for Trump.

Looks like Harvard agrees with Trump. He is being treated worse,  by the media than any president ever.

Do you think that maybe the fact that you people put a fucking Russian spy in the White House, who pals around with Nazis and White Supremacists who write speeches for , may contribute to this? That we are witnessing unparalleled levels of corruption, nepotism, influence peddling and flat out grabbing of taxpayer resources at a scope never seen before?

This is the first time we have had an incompetent, traitorous buffoon in there.

This shit started BEFORE the election (Manafort) and has continued through the transition right up to the minute.

This has fuck-all to do with "fairness" and everything to do with the unqualified asshole you people sold our country out to.

Well if all of that is true we should have a new president in short order.   Then you can turn your anger and vitriol against Pence.   Knowing your tolerance of anyone with strong religious leanings  I can only imagine the insane levels those rants will reach.

Strong religious feelings are one thing but, should be kept to themselves. Others shouldn't have to be forced to have those same religious leanings that legislatures have mandated through legislation. I don't care to be forced to abide to their religious rants, beliefs, or policies they enact..

I'm guessing you've been holding that rant in for a while. Do you really think we are being unfair to Trump? That we should be giving him a break because learning how to be president is a tough job? Being a compulsive liar is a sickness and no one should hold that against him? That we should not point out his failures because it makes us look like bullies?

Nope.  Have at it.  if all the charges against Trump are true he should be removed.   My comment was about civil discourse.    Hard to have that when people like B J. are shoving a finger in your face screaming "YOU PEOPLE DID THIS!"

Last poll only 3% of those that voted for Trump would change their vote.   The snowflakes are those that cannot accept that they lost in November.   They with the help of the MSM are hoping to force the legally elected president out of office.   If they fail the country will continue to be torn apart.  If they succeed those millions of voters that still support Trump will view it as a coup.   I fear for my country.

Those poll numbers are accurate taken about 2 months ago, wait six more months and I'm willing to bet those numbers swell appreciably. I just got off the phone with an old high school buddy who now lives in Sacramento, We had a pleasant conversation until politics came up and he became almost rabid in the defence of Trump, failing to recognize anything negative about him at all. The press was being mean, he is not a liar even though the evidence is extensive, I downplayed any feelings I had, I appreciate the relationship more but I'm sad that he almost seems out of touch with reality.

2 months, practically a lifetime in Politics. Most of the Trump supporters here aren't even talking anymore.

If all the charges? How about some of the charges?  How guilty would Trump have to be for you to accept he isn't qualified to hold office?  Yes, he was legally elected and that has fuck all to do with being legally able to serve.

If Trump is impeached and removed and his supporters don't accept it then there is a problem. We are a nation of laws and we agree to abide by those laws. Wouldn't say much for the character of his supporters if they decide those laws no longer apply.

Trump was qualified to be elected being over the age of 35 and a natural citizen of the USA. Again has fuck all with being qualified to actually perform the duties of the office - that's on you and the rest of the GOP.  .

I knew someone would nit pick my "all."  It was not my intent.  How about any proven charges that fall under the high crimes portion of the impeachment rules.   As to not accepting an impeachment I'll submit  Bill Clinton who held a rally after being impeached   The "we are nation of laws" is classic.  The peaceful transfer of power is about as sacred as it gets and the left has been ignoring a legal election since Nov 9 so excuse me if I chuckle at you throwing that out

Nice equivalence.  - you do realize that Clinton was not impeached?  It doesn't seem so, but then you seem thin on facts sometimes.  How do you not accept something that doesn't exist?  The left as you call it has not been ignoring a legal election, the only outcry has been Trump's ridiculous attempts to distract with his illegal voters crap.

We are a nation of laws, perhaps you should try to discern what those are and how they work. Meanwhile Trump's actions continue to contribute to his problems and there is no one to blame for that but Trump.

Geez, maybe he's getting "worse" treatment because he's corrupt as hell, in bed with the Russians who helped him steal the election, and is utterly unqualified, ignorant, incompetent, and totally not up for the job.

I know you'd love to see the media blow warm sunshine up your shorts, but Trump is so awful makes Dubya look like the second coming of Abe Lincoln.

The way I read the Harvard study, 20% of the media is feeding us positive bullshit he doesn't deserve.

Yeah, I have disdain for people that voted for an overtly racist, misogynistic and stunningly ignorant and ill-prepared fool like this because they believed him. Or worse, because they knew he was lying but voted for him anyway. I roll that way.

Roger Ailes paved the way for that stunning ignorance.

"Civil Discourse?" The "Lock Her Up" crowd made that pretty damned clear that wasn't a priority when you pulled the lever for Il Douché. You voted for a guy that called his opponents playground names and insults while talking about the size of his junk during a televised national debate FFS.

TM--

You're guy brags about grabbing pussy and lies easier than I take off my shoes.

Do you have kids?  Trump epitomizes everything you told them not to be-- a bully, somebody who mocks disabled folks and boosts about grabbing pussy.  How is it that you don't hold him to a reasonable standard?  It's fascinating how your partisan wiring over-rides basic standards of humanness.
