Joey Newton says its a manoeuvre that they use when they haven't got their lay lines exactly right. Also said that they use all the foils in the manoeuvre.

He said it's a mark manoeuvre where they use both foils. Pretty sure the comment about the lay lines was just him saying they happened to get them wrong this time and that's why the manoeuvre didn't work so well - not that it's why they did the manoeuvre in the first place.

I'd watch that replay - not sure Oracle had an overlap at the 3 boat length circle.

Haha its early days. Now that ETNZ know where they are at against the Americans, its curtains for Oracle. The cup is coming back to Auckland.

What is an overlap - as I didn't see one either.

JS aggressiveness may have pulled one out

Hard to tell in the moment from the boat. It was close.

If that's the way their first match up went, we're in for a better show than I thought!

Agree too, although I doubt the skippers knew for sure given how close it was and given the speeds they are hitting that circle boundary. If JS had tapped them, perhaps OR would have taken the penalty?

The overlap has to be established at the time the first boat enters the circle

Is it not the first to get into the circle gets room? There didn't seem to be an overlap so perhaps the Kiwi's should've got room around the mark? Looked like ETNZ got their bows into the circle first.

ETNZ shot up to 40+ knts before they pulled back quickly in theat short sprint to the finish.

Doesn't everybody including umpires get the same feed? The tv coverage was clear as day.

I saw 42 and change at one point. Oracle was at 40.9 or so right then.

Not sure OR had the overlap in the 3 length, he may have played a psychological warfare.

Yes, JS took advantage of them because he knew for sure, that they didn't know for sure either. :)

It was smart of him to scare them, but to avoid contact just in case.

Does that information get to the skippers? In other words, would they know if there was an overlap as the entered the circle?

Haha, they cut to the chief umpire on a hot mic saying 'Jesus Christ!' watching the replay. That's amazing.

Honestly, watching that replay and hearing the umpire's reaction, I'm pretty surprised BAR aren't just straight disqualified. Have to think the umpire would be suggesting that if they could make the decision again having seen the replay.

I guess the umpires are learning as much as the crews now it's all on.

Black Flag for damage? Surely dangerous to keep racing with one Hull split. Any rules apply here?
