that does not show how close it really was when ART was actually competitive without failures and unforced errors.

Agreed, difficult to judge who was the fastest as AR made too many mistakes, wrong choice of foils, repetitive penalties, bad tactical choice like the gybe of the last race.

TNZ generally had to edge on upwind vmg though.

For ourselves, we lookforward to breaking Jimmy's paddleboard in half and sending it back to NSW.

I'm not saying it wasn't close. I'm saying we were better. That is why we won 7 and they won 2. They were a worthy adversary.

It would be fantastic if they were to train with us. Pete and Nathan are friends. But it's prob not that simple.

How many breakdowns and unforced errors did ART have in this round?

None of the breakdowns happened when Art were even close let alone in the lead.

When behind ETNZ were able to stay close/reduce gaps to force Art to make good turns if they wanted to stay in front, hard to call that unforced.

Maybe some Airbus power plant failure?

I had expected them to at least put some fabric over the hole.

Doesn't particularly look like complex geometry requiring building a new one back in NZ.

Not a breakdown, a pressure tack which they needed to nail to have a chance not to be easily crossed by ETNZ on starboard.

Doh - got it. The other extreme being '3-0.'

ETNZ looked relatively even faster vs AR than what the Polars already suggested, upwind they went like lighting in this breeze, very impressive.

Oracle don't have a point, ETNZ has -1 point. The possibilities after two races are:

Oracle 2, ETNZ -1

Oracle 1, ETNZ 0

Oracle 0, ETNZ 1

If Mr Artemis feels that ETNZ are high probability of winning then he might make an effort to buy some good-will with the soon to be cup holders and send Artemis in to practice against them ETNZ.  A good idea for Artemis anyway to get more of an idea of ETNZ's performance in different conditions for next AC - know your enemy.

Seemed like NO is much less interested in the continuation of the Framework than IP.

TT apparently will follow the Cup, his participation not tied to the Framework.

IP is so confusing: Face looks so grizzled & gruff but then his voice is pleasant & articulate (when not threatening to rip heads off).

Huge muscles but complaining about being too old & not fit enough.

GA is much more comfortable than PB in presser, answers questions non-boofhead style.

No actual Cup presentation? ETNZ doesn't get the cup because they didn't sign up to the Framework?

That wasn't the real Louis Vuitton Cup.

This is the real LV cup and ETNZ have owned it since 1995 (apart from the times they have been defender)

I don't think so, you can see multiple winners engraved in Mudz pic.

The new one is for this 'Louis Vuitton Defender in the Challenger Series'.

I know it was there but I'd have liked to see some kind of official presentation ceremony where they get to pick it up & wave it around.

Absence of that is odd.

OK there was a presentation, not showing on Americas Cup Youtube but ETNZ has it.

Edit: also they do have it on the actual AC page but a protected link so doesn't show up in the AC Youtube feed.

Racing hasn't been so bad up to this point, has it?  Maybe thats a trick question.

So long as the wind cooperates I think it will be compelling.  Especially with JS at the wheel of one of the boats.

Or at least it shouldn't be 5-0 parade like we've seen in '95, 2000 and 2003.

My only real complaint on the racing is the length of the races, the sparring etc... itself has certainly been compelling enough, still not a major fan of the reaching starts though.

It's a new LV cup because they were dumped from their previous role early in the set up of this event. And then reinstated when you know who realised their error. With that came an all new trophy

The wing is fine  there was no issue  it simply expects to have some pressure on it  so when becalmed a bit of man power is useful

soon there will be two again

and soon more bits arrive from that global hot bed of yachting tech NZ

what a great start. Gets serious now

I'd say an argument can be made the sailing in the Cup final for AC34 is better than what's been seen in BDA up to this point. The pre-starts were better for sure.

Anyway, monos or not, a 5-0 ass kicking in a Cup final is a 5-0 ass kicking.  At least in these foilers the racing is over quickly.

I think even Bill Koch might not be a big enough billionaire to fund a campaign in thus day and age and that is a pretty scary thought.

Although he could underwrite a campaign but seek commercial sponsorship which would be totally doable for him.

But the truth is that there will be no other American teams in the America's Cup as long as orifice are the holders.

If etnz win then watch the American challengers come out of the woodwork just like 87 and to a lesser extent 00 and 03.

Interesting question. Not that I've heard off. Lots of old yachting families represented, like the Salthouses and the Endeans etc.

Nothing like three contemporary Barret brothers in the All Blacks though!!!!!!!
