BBA 0 #8215 Posted June 24, 2017 Looked to me like they could maintain speed equal to the kiwis for the first three legs. After that and the penalty they were out of power and all their manoeuvres started suffering for it. I reckon if they are equal at start they will stay in touch but then start suffering again after a few legs.
TN_Kiwi 0 #8216 Posted June 24, 2017 Looks like Spithill should have been learning how to start this last week - one of the biggest quantitative differences between these boats - Jimmy is disadvantaging OR at the start of every race so far.

generative.design 0 #8222 Posted June 24, 2017 I have a little more respect for OR right now - they seemed to have spent the last week trying to genuinely match ETNZ's performance by making the boat less stable instead of rebuilding / copying or whatever they did in SF. They're still not fast enough though - the aspects that make ETNZ truly superior can't be 'modded' in a few days.

Yah ppl forget that the Kiwis actually had to sail perfect races in 2013 and lost a few before the 8-1 (3) break. I think the entire design is showing that Oracle after revisions could in theory match the Kiwis in upwind speed, but whether they can maintain control after a few marks remains to be seen. One gets the feeling that PB has enough hydralic reserves and control assistance from crew that he can sail 14 leg course. While Oracle is at the limit by mark 2. I'm sure ETNZ planned for exactly that situation and how to win the penalty.
