Any chance of some more 360 videos floating around?

Coolest thing is watching them with an Oculus headset... (no I'm not sitting on a bike at the time but that would be a next level of geekness)

This is so cool as you can focus on the stuff your interested in rather than rely on changing camera angles etc.  Watching the sail trim or foil operation during tacks, gybes and starting tactics is very informative. Plus you can hear the onboard banter rather than the made for the masses BS commentary.

Genny T talked to KR about his VR experience during yesterday's preshow and she said something about them having been already posted to the AC Facebook page. I would try there.

I just walked in the door from a 10 day trip and have been very careful to avoid any news about the AC.

Torrents are running now.

Rudder if you ever make it to North Carolina, dinner's on me.

The torrent of the 4th day isn't working (no seed, 1 peer).
The link for the 7th race is rather congested ("Too many users have viewed or downloaded this file recently. Please try accessing the file again later."), no problem with the one for the 8th race.
Thanks Rudder_NZ! :-)

Seed is still running with 11 seeders.  Check your tracker.  I have to manually add the trackers to rudder's torrents on my server for Rudder's torrents.  I will get to today's racing when I get home after work tonight.  DVR was just starting up when I had to leave for work.

It's 7am local here in Sydney, (about 3 hours after the finish of the last race today) and  both races are in 'processing, check back later' mode, Grrrrrr!

Try download it and watch it in VLC or add it to your own Google Drive. Sometimes Drive just doesn't process the videos.

Yeah I'm more of a just a casual torrent user who doesn't know how to "manually add trackers" to anything. I find the same thing here though. Maybe my client is just picky with the magnet links posted in here but often they start up, then can't access any of the metadata for the file being requested and just sit there like zombie torrents with no sources and no peers. It's weird. I don't know what's going on or how to fix it, but I wish I did so I didn't have to rely on Rudder's google drive links to do all the bandwidth requirements. I copy them to my own drive first before downloading but I'm not sure if that saves him his quota limit or not.

I had to play around a fair bit to find it on my torrent software.  In my software, you right click on the torrent and select Edit Torrent, then copy and paste the trackers (listed here back on page 3ish I think).  If lots of people are having trouble, I can post on google drive, but as these files are 1.5gb each that eats into my storage allowance pretty quickly.

Thanks Rudder_NZ, but can I have race 9 now please, I can't wait for tomorrow.

Tomorrow's race will be a fizzer anyway. With Slingsby on the helm, they'll be a couple of legs down still doing the second upwind beat as ETNZ are crossing the line. Then they'll pull a big wet sookie Ben Ainslie move and call up the race committee to retire mid race because they can't handle the embarrassment. Dean Barker + John Kostecki will then touch rum glasses and cheers each other back on the shore.

Has anyone seen any sign whatsoever of Larry Ellison in any of the coverage posted? I've watched pretty much all of it so far and I've seen no sign of Larry at all. There's been references made of him for sure, like he is there, but he's like vapourware. The cameras don't appear to be able to capture him. I wonder if Slingsby's promotion has anything to do with Jimmy Spittle's repeated claims that software problems are to blame for his crap starts, course boundary blindness & general lack of talent and tactical nous? Coz, y'know, it's not as if his boat is sponsored, funded and named after a giant multinational software company or anything, that would just be plain embarrassing if it were the case... oh wait.

It's possibly not the greatest career move in the world to slag off the product of your employer in an internationally broadcast public forum.

I wish I'd known to make a drinking game out of how many times Pete Burlington uses the phrase "for ourselves" in interviews. There isn't enough Steinlager in the whole world to win that game! I wish we'd have got to hear a lot more from Glenn Ashby or even Grant Dalton or Ray Davies. All those guys speak lucidly and actually give real answers that make sense. Unfortunately I suspect the aimless, repetitive, buzz-word laden waffling without actually saying anything of any substance like a politician, is exactly what both ETNZ & Oracle Team AUS wanted from their press conference attendees, so as to not give anything away. Unfortunately it has meant an embarrassing lack of probing questions from the journalists since they know they're not going to get any real answers whatever they ask anyway and lifeless, boring press conferences which make you cringe with embarrassment watching. The one press conference Glenn Ashby & Iain Percy did attend was really the only one worth watching with animated responses to real questions given by human beings instead of well-trained robots.

Does anyone know if any of the above links are the NBC broadcast of todays races?

I haven't seen any NBC broadcasts since those two of the Day 2 races 3+4. I actually enjoyed watching them though. It was hilarious listening to the completely different and totally US-centric biased commentary on NBC for the American market. Even though the pictures were exactly the same, it was like watching a completely different race just because of the commentary. Even when Oracle Team AUS were ~850m behind, the commentary alone would have led you to believe they were right on the brink of winning! It was like Jimmy Spithill & Charlie Sheen were doing the commentary. :D

NBC had Draper and Outerridge in the booth and a fuckwit american "X-Games" announcer named todd.  The other two did well.

international feed had kenny and a fuckwit rugby announcer named Alistair.  Kenny got decent toward the end but his lack of foiling experience meant he didn't really anticipate the way a good commentator must.

Yes the link up with Pete Mont. on Radio Live and the race vid on mute is great ... just like the old days ... now we just need them joined by Peter L and Martin T .

I loved the wee Royal Wave that Pete B gave Spits when they luffed them almost into irons in the start of race 2 today ... just brilliant ... that should become his signature wave ...  here's hoping just one more tomorrow ? ( ps if anyone complains about a spoiler alert from this comment - they must be living an another planet ... )

A good couple of weekends for the NZers. Winning Le Mans, Scott Dixon @ Elkhart Lake, the All Blacks monstering a classic over the Lions and hopefully the AC to top it off. Must feel good to be an NZer right now!

Not sure if this has been said but can people who have the bandwidth please leave the seed up for a day to help others... I normally don't do this (yeah I know I'm a leech) for other torrents but given the outstanding job RudderNZ and others have done to post these seems only fair we payback a little...Just my $0.02

Like others have said.. dinner and a sail are on me if you're over here in NO, GA and TS's stomping ground of the central coast NSW These boys have definitely put Wangi Wangi and our local waters on the international map.

Cheers

Because SO MANY PEOPLE are trying to download/watch Rudder's replays at once, it means late people like me can't watch the races until the backlog has cleared up. Why not have someone put the same file on their drive to split demand and make it easier to watch?

That's what the torrents are for.

Rudder_NZ because many are following your torrents to keep up with actions, If today we have only one race, could you put a second file in the torrent to keep it spoiler free?

It'll likely be long anyhow, for example if we win the first one there will be all the victory video which I presume Rudder_NZ will capture too. if we lose 1 and win the other then we'll still have (a) large file, if we lose both we'll just have 2 as normal. I'm hoping for 1 large file :)

Here's to hoping that if/when the Kiwis win, it will be the end of this insanely stupid effort to squeeze money out of those who want to watch the racing, and recognize that the best way to make money is to make the event easy to watch, make the most people want to watch, and for sponsors to provide the $$$.  The amount of effort to watch through these torrents and seeds (I'm sorry to say I don't know fuck-all about what any of that means, and have not made an effort to try and watch) is admirable by you guys, but would it be so fucking bad if they just let us watch the racing on the AC.com website, when we wan to watch it?

Sincerely,

A formerly rabid AC fan without the time to learn torrent/seeding, and says fuck the app, who has watched only two races this year, via my DVR.

If i'm honest, I would be completely happy paying like $10 or whatever to watch the racing on the AC App.

BUT

It isn't available in NZ and the only option is to buy Sky Sport which is $80 a month. #rip

Should of asked :)

Seeds = The number of people that have the complete file.
Peers = The number of people downloading the file that only have parts of it.

More seeds = more chance to get a complete file, which is why a lot of us have been seeding it.
Low Peers = lack of interest in the file so not many downloading it.

I almost never watch anything live anymore.... the facts of life with my family, youth sports, and a big property to constantly weed/repair/fix/replace shit....  By the time I can watch, I pretty much always know who won (no matter how hard I try to avoid the results.  Hard to get excited to spend $$$ on something when I already know who won.

I'm generally pretty good with tech, but I have not had an interest in keeping up with this stuff... so it is all greek to me, and requires more effort/time than I care to dedicate.

I personally think the best way to get people to care and be fans is to make it the easiest possible to watch.  The geniuses at ACXX seem content to have a tiny audience and try to milk money out of them, rather than having a bigger audience that is more likely to grow with ease of viewing, and make the money off the sponsors.  Just seems like a dumb direction to take... never going to grow this way.

Well you'd think it'd be a live world wide YouTube stream, or Twitch something you know so people can just left click.

Yep.  It was exciting last time around, early on, when the ACWS was just starting, and they were innovators with YT live-streaming.  Really seemed they had a great idea of how to get the sport out there maximally for people to see and grow viewership.  Then they stepped on their junk by totally failing to promote it, and then in this go-around they made the lurch in the wrong direction by making it harder to watch.  Quite insane.

Like I said, hopefully the Kiwis are smarter.  As long as they don't go backwards relative to the boats, I'm looking forward to a change of custodianship.

Well TV could have got the replays edited down, and the online live stream could have had the full unedited version and we could have had longer races.

I'd love to see a side-by-side analysis of the revenue earned from broadcast rights and app purchases vs potential ad revenue through a properly structured Youtube channel.

You're ignoring the very real likelihood of the wind strength determining the number of races. The forecast is very light. Right on the cusp of the minimum wind strength at start time and dropping thereafter. If they get one race off, it could very easily be the only race of the day regardless of who wins it, or it could even be abandoned with no result. You really can get nothing by way of a spoiler from the size or number of files contained within a torrent, so asking for null-filled extra files to disguise them, is completely unnecessary.

+1 but you're preaching to the converted in here. No-one likes what the organisers have done regarding the walled garden broadcasting licencing deals this time and I think everyone is in wholehearted agreement this does nothing to promote the sport or ensure its longevity or appeal to new generations. All it does is line the pockets of a very elite few in the very short term. That said, the cards have been dealt and there's nothing we can do to change that beyond adapting to the new order of things and making the best of it. I think the likes of Rudder_NZ in here has been the standout contributor who has done more than anyone else to achieve that.

+1 same here. Where I live literally nothing is broadcast genuinely live as it's actually happening anyway. Even when there's a giant LIVE digital graphic in the top corner of the screen it isn't actually live. Closest I can ever get to genuine live broadcasts is delayed by 2 hours from when it happened. I've learnt to watch everything downloaded and delayed to when it's convenient for me to watch and I've learnt to enjoy it just as much even after I know the result. In fact now, I actually prefer to know the result first before watching. I laugh at people who cry about "spoilers", as if knowing the end result is all that matters and the whole point of watching is gone as soon as that's revealed. I am able to enjoy the path taken to get to that result much more than just what happens in the last few seconds before the whistle is blown or the chequered flag flys. I often wonder if the end result is so paramount to enjoyment that it represents almost 100% of the reason for watching, then why don't those same people just save themselves all the time and fast forward straight to the end and just watch the last minute? That would be far more efficient. They can pack all their excitment and entertainment into 1 thrilling minute of fun and then spend the rest of the 2 hours they saved mowing the lawn or painting the rafters!

Screw that. I watch it the first time yelling and screaming and cheering ETNZ. I watch it a second time to analyze and understand what happened.

Then in I probably watch the races a third time because reruns are better than tv these days.

Hi Rudder, could you torrent each race from now on individually after each race so as not to give away result.  Cheers
