      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

Challenger playoff - who do ETNZ want to sail off against ?

Recommended Posts

Guessing they'd prefer STJ overall, since they look weaker. With light winds they might prefer Artemis. Saturday and Sunday look light-ish, but not sure where the crossover point is.

We should congratulate ETNZ for reaching the AC Match already. They only need 5 of the 6 possible Races between Saturday/Sunday and they are through.

You're finally coming around, well done.

They definitely would prefer SBTJ.

They are far more vulnerable to good tactics than good boat speed, the ETNZ boat is plenty quick enough to get the job done, but they have been undone on a few occassions by the other team making a better call and IP and NO look to be tactically significantly better than CD and DB.

Forecast for finals is light (<10kts for whole period), so ETNZ is sitting pretty regardless.  I think on balance they probably prefer Japan who seem slightly slower, if only to briefly deny Oracle their usual practice partner.  But they were way faster than Artemis in light so should be pretty straight forward win for ETNZ with a decent chance it will be over on Sunday.

I disagree - if they race SBTJ in the LVC final and win, then ORUSA will be given all the onboard race data from SBTJ, including all details about the foils they used, which could be used to optimally mode the ORUSA boat against ETNZ.

Oracle is going to know all that anyway. Artemis will give them the same data if they lose to the kiwis. It is Artemis' best interest for Oracle to win if they don't. Kiwis win and everything gets reset.

How would OR benefit by knowing the details of bad foil designs that lost? Criminy.. Folks are losing the plot all over again!

Like everyone, OR will be taking their best shot at running ~winner~ foils.

Not much good hiding something from OR and in the process losing to Artemis, you want the guy you can beat the easiest and I think at this point for ETNZ that's SBTJ.

With light winds coming up I would take Artemis every day of the week.

Looking at wind guru, the conditions are much lower than today as far as the eye can see.

I will say this though....she's looking pretty fresh tomorrow!! More boat breakages?? Just before the Finals the very next day!! This schedule is fucking stupid really....the final could be finished in two days, what a fucking joke!!

Xerox won't allow IM to cancel tomorrow as that would put Artemis through.

Not in Xeroxs master plan.

We know NZ is the team to beat, but do we even have a good idea of whether Barkers Menswear™  or Artemis are better in the light?

Not as bad as Tuesday BDA though.

On Tuesday it was sustained over 20 knots pretty much the whole day. That 3 - 5 knots lower will make all the difference.

Artemis have been weaker in light air previously, but they may have remedied that now.

Certainly BAR were a lot more stable today than during the round robins.

Artemis looked quite good in that Final Race today which was 10-11 knots average maybe even lower.

But we are talking 6-7 knots for the first two days of the final. Hard to remedy the fact ETNZ is fucking fast in very light winds!!

Higher. Started at 10-12 then increased a couple knots. Blue line is instant, yellow line is rolling average.

It doesn't matter either way - they have the data regardless. The teams have to supply all their boat data, effectively live, including rake angle, wing etc. OR will have that info every day before the boats even get back to dock.

The Schedule is ok. You can't control mother nature.

You can sure as hell wait for it though, it's called lay days and starting your races based on the weather not the TV schedule...

Yachtsmen all around the world have been doing it reasonably successfully for centuries.
